Toyota Motor Company launched their luxury car brand 'Lexus' in 1989. They formed a separate sales channel to deliver the kind of sales and service experience to impress the most particular of customers.

Their first car, the XF10 LS400 launched that year was a further testimony to the dedicated focus of the team in delivering excellence. The basic specification was impressive enough - 4.0 L V8 DOHC TwinCam, producing 190 kW. The magic was in the attention to detail of every part and function. The car was near silent, smooth and refined. Everything worked perfectly, consistently and with finesse.

Their were many early critics of both the brand experiment and the car. When the vehicle was disassembled by competitors, they found exactly what was stated - near perfect execution of every detail.

Further models were added to the lineup over time - each with the same ethos, if not the near perfection of the top-line LS. The 'experiment' did, however, force all other competitors to lift their game.

Nissan followed suit with their own luxury brand 'Infiniti', Honda with 'Acura' and Mazda was to follow with 'Amati' - the Asian financial recession arrived before that plan could be executed.

Lexus was by far the most successful, and still sets quality benchmarks for its products. This can be seen in the US JD Power quality surveys.

A friend came to visit me with his pre-facelift Premier RX. It was interesting to see the subtle differences between the two models.

Both my RX and the Camry have been cleaned since this photo.....

Looking very good for 180k.

A Lexus SC 430 Convertible. Yours for 219.000 SEK at Lindholm Bil in Handen. Found it parked outside my favorite cafe this afternoon. The driver told me I could buy it if I wanted to as he is a local car dealer.

Some unusual modifictions on this, although I think it pulls off the look of an American Police car quite well, despite being the wrong nationality.

After a year of sporadic building, I've finally finished my scale model of the Lexus LFA. The LFA is one of my top five favorite cars, along with the Enzo Ferrari and Pagani Zonda, which I have also built in LEGO. The design is understated compared to most exotics, but still very striking at the same time in my opinion.

Overall, this was a very fun car to build. It took me a while to produce a front end that I was satisfied with; although I am still not entirely happy with the exposed studs above the headlights (LEGO needs to make wedge tiles!).

My favorite part is probably the rear half. I'm quite pleased with the way the side air intakes above the rear wheels turned out, as well as how smoothly the rear spoiler fits when retracted.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope my next car doesn't take an entire year to build!
