Black Grouse getting in a flap on the Denbigh Moors earlier this month. As impressive as they are, they're comical to watch - especially when 15+ cocks give it their best to impress the fairer sex :)

What is fascinating is how sun light that travels through water and waves contorts and changes the human face, giving it a spooky effect. The images were shot seconds apart, in the open sea. On a human level, these type of shots are difficult and very challenging, especially for the model in the salty sea, and Kangsom deserves a huge round of applause. She is not a professional model - hugely impressive.

Badwater in Death Valley with awesome last bits of sunlight kissing the tops of the salt polygons. One of the hottest (in the summer) and lowest (-200 feet below sea level) places on earth. I can just imagine cooking eggs out here in August.... no salt needed :D

A female Thrips flavus found on gorse that had come down in a landslide onto the beach at Pett Level. Additional pictures below - note antennal segments 4&5 are half brown and half pale.
One of the highlights of our trip was making a stop at this reservoir for lunch and spotting this young owlet sitting in the crook of a tree at 'eye level'! At first I thought someone sat a fake owl there then it blinked. It was pretty warm and I think the second image down was from panting not from fear. The bottem image is when we tried to locate the nest and mamma as this youngster kept it's eyes on us.
When I got home I read that Great Horned Owls fledge before they can fly and strengthen their legs and claws by climbing trees.

Freightliner class 86607/86627 come through Tamworth Low level on the Tilbury to Garston Liner. After a day here I was worn out keep running up and down those steps between the high and low level.I must get in training for my next visit.
As we waited on the bridge for the next westbound a Sheriff's patrol car with a couple of deputies inside pulled up. Figuring we were about to get run off the bridge we still greeted them with smiles and waves. Much to our surprise once they found out what we were doing they were totally cool with it.
They turned on their rear directional lights for safety and hung out until the train came. After showing them the way it looked in the camera they continued their patrol. Very friendly guys that seemed genuinely interested in what we were doing.

The local camera club was doing a photowalk in downtown Elgin last night. We were shooting a church from the second floor (first floor for my British friends) of the parking garage and had just taken a group shot. As I was looking out upon the scene, I started feeling that tingling sensation (no, not THAT tingling sensation). So I took the shot, more as a joke than anything else. I have a reputation for taking "weird" photographs, so I have to maintain my rep. When I looked at it later, I kinda liked it. Emptyness, simplicity, minimalism, repetition, vanishing points, rule of thirds, and almost mononchrome except for that splash of orange. What's not to like?
I may enter it in the club competition just to watch the judges' heads explode.
