A female Thrips flavus found on gorse that had come down in a landslide onto the beach at Pett Level. Additional pictures below - note antennal segments 4&5 are half brown and half pale.
One of the highlights of our trip was making a stop at this reservoir for lunch and spotting this young owlet sitting in the crook of a tree at 'eye level'! At first I thought someone sat a fake owl there then it blinked. It was pretty warm and I think the second image down was from panting not from fear. The bottem image is when we tried to locate the nest and mamma as this youngster kept it's eyes on us.
When I got home I read that Great Horned Owls fledge before they can fly and strengthen their legs and claws by climbing trees.

On Thursday (22 April 2021) I had a lovely day out with ianbartlett. We parked at Pett Level, walked west towards Hastings and then east towards Rye. It was a lovely sunny day, but the wind made it chilly at times.

Autumn on the Jitong Railway and QJs 6905 and 7040 are on the second level of the looping climb above Reshui on the Jinpeng section of the line. The line will soon pass through a curving tunnel to emerge directly behind and almost level with me. The line can be seen approaching Reshui and crossing the river on a long viaduct before swinging away along the first level.

Yamnuska translates to "wall of stone" and is derived from the Stoney Nakoda word Iyamnathka that describes steep cliffs or "the flat faced mountain." Standing at approximately 2,240 m (7,350 ft) above sea level, Mount Yamnuska is the last mountain on the north side of the Bow River valley (Bow Valley) as it exits the mountains for the foothills and prairie of Alberta. Located close to Calgary, it is a popular "great scramble". It is also a popular rock climbing destination, with over 100 routes of all difficulty levels spread out across its face.
Bonanza is a vigorous, deciduous late-flowering climber to 3m in height with ovate, mid-green leaves. It produces many star-like, mauve-blue flowers with pale yellow stamens from midsummer to early autumn. However, here in Vancouver, they are already in bloom!

The Wetterstein mountain range, also known as the Wetterstein for short, is a mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps in southern Germany and western Austria. The Free State of Bavaria and the state of Tyrol are part of it. The mountain range reaches its highest point at the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany at 2962 metres above sea level. The heavily karstified mountain range consists mainly of Triassic limestone, especially Wetterstein limestone.
