When my father's first cousin Billy was still alive I used to very much enjoy our weekly lunches there together with his brother-in-law.
The food was always nice and tasty and the Staff were very friendly.

Owasco Inlet meanders through a lot of remote countryside. Its a small creek, I'm amazed it can contribute so much to a fairly large lake.

Again, no planned trip, not even thinking the sunset conditions would be very good. For just a few minutes the sky looked this intense. I took a bunch of photos, this one was timed when the clouds and colors looked best to me.

Typical arctic cold moved in but should be gone in a few days. The light snow and colorful sunsets have been amazing on most days this January. I'll have to endure even colder temps if I want photos this weekend.

More accurately, it is part of the Pleasant Valley Wine Company. In 1860 it became the first bonded winery in the U.S.. It is located just south of Hammondsport, in Urbana.

Looking at him, fragile figure in the physical, one of the strongest spirits that ever were, I feel something very deep inside, very moving.... And I wish this world we live in, with its urges, its madness, its greed and its hates and wars, would produce many more like him, and provide them with the podium to shine their (necessary) light upon us...
Be blessed forever...

28.9 degrees this morning? In Central Florida? Are you kidding me?? And that temp was from a semi-protected remote, so it probably was really colder than that ...
I am still slowly reworking my damaged catalog and found this old picture taken from the top of Brasstown Bald Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest, North Georgia. I believe it is the highest peak in Georgia and the view is magnificent. This was shot in April, but it still looks like the dead of winter up there. The contrast of the cold blues and leafless brown trees reflect just how I feel today. Even my coffee keeps getting cold fast.
In spite of the tediousness of my catalog restoration process, it's kinda cool to look back at your evolution as a photographer over time, both in the quality of your work and favorite subjects.
I have done virtually no photography for some time as I tripped over a rolled-up rug in early December and broke my right big toe clear across the first knuckle - like it was at a 45 degree angle to my foot. NOT a pretty sight. Anyway, I ended up with two pins in it, which meant no driving and no work. Spent a lot of time just sitting around with my foot up. You don't realize how much that toe does until it is out of commission. However, the pins came out Tuesday and I can drive again!! Hooray!! I have a life again!!
Belated Happy New Year to all my Flickr friends!!
With the snow and ice gone I used a seasonal road to find a new spot. It is nearly the beginning of the Owasco Inlet. The area is serene and I will be going back.

The ice was so impessive throughout the gorge. I wanted to get closer to the falls but used the overlook instead. The ground was too icy to walk on anywhere else.

I got out a little after peak sunset time. After making it to a good spot I got a few photos. This one seemed to be the best of the bunch. As usual, a lot go unposted.

I was walking around an area I normally just drive past. The old farm structures must go way back. A main road and a strip of businesses have taken up the area now.

More rounds of snowstorms keep coming. During the last snowfall I had to get out and get a few photos. I couldn't get far with thigh-high to waste-high snow everywhere.

This power station was built over the creek, of course for the water flow. It has been abandoned for a long time. The main buildings have been renovated for use as shops, restaurants, and such.

The snow and ice melted quickly after some really warm days. It was odd to see the falls without them being frozen. Perhaps spring can finally get here and stay for a while.

The ice and snow decorated Van Nattas Pumping Station wonderfully. The old site always leads me to dig more into regional history. Surely not every site can be reconstructed so we will visit them while we can.

The impressive snowfall was a challenge to deal with for a day or two. Once the roads cleared and the sun came out, the area looked incredible.

Right from early morning I knew the sunset would be great later. The forecast called for a good percentage of cloud cover for the evening hours. The assesments turned out to be right on.

Waking up early for work is not natural for me. I often get rewarded with great sunrises like this, though. I didn't give myself extra time so I snapped this quickly and drove off.

The sun isn't shining as I edit and post this photo. I took it a few days beforehand. Today a strong winter-like storm is bringing a lot of precipitation. I can't wait to see how the area waterfalls will be flowing in the days ahead.

I was in a different part of town than usual. As I was waiting for something I noticed that the sunset was outstanding. I could have gone up and over the hill for a different view but this one worked out well.

I was driving around town looking for fall color photos. So many of the trees had no leaves already. I passed by this abandoned house that is for sale and had to turn around. Quite the project for someone.

The skies this autumn have been so colorful. A lot of clouds have made nighttime sky viewing frustrating. Cloudy skies have made the skies much more interesting throughout the day, however.

The sun's low angle this time of year makes for intense sunsets. I'm lucky enough to have a friend or two who let their light shine as well.

Van Nattas Pumping Station is on Six Mile Creek in Ithaca. Wells Falls runs alongside it. Its always a nice place to visit and is relatively close to where I live.

I went to a nearby nature preserve after my work week ended. The barely defined trail led to a peaceful wooded setting. The sun was setting so I got a few photos before heading back.

I was a little obsessed with leafless trees that day. This one amazed me, specially in sepia, it feels like an underwater image.
I had planned to go to a nearby waterfall but the road was closed. There's always something to take a nice photo of outside of the overly popular sites anyway.

An experiment. I read about fine-tuning focus using live view followed by two plusses for careful focus. Tried it -- from the kitchen -- on this dove outside the dining room window. Hmmm ... a new technique. Yay.
Strong fronts moved through bringing thunderstorms. Being tired, I got out later than planned. That worked in my favor because I just missed storms with large hail. They hit along the route I took but missed where I lived.

Family came up and I had a couple days off to see them. Some schools were off, making gatherings possible. A hike to the base of the falls was worth it and memorable.

Living History Farms is a historically accurate farm here in Des Moines. It has three farms which depict life on a farm in 1700, 1850, and 1900. In addition to the farms, there is a small town replica and this church.
This is a three exposure HDR.
So very much better on black and large. Clickety on it or press the 'l for lovely' key to see.

I was doing my last run of Christmas shopping at a plaza I've never been to. On the way there I could see how nice the sunset was. I was sure I was going to miss out on really seeing it. However, once O pulled into the parking lot I was treated to a clear view of the sky.

The sky was more filled with clouds than it had been for the last few sunsets. The varying conditions of course make every sunset look a bit different. Even though I often take photos from the same spots the shots don't come out the same way.
