The combination of evergreen trees behind the tall deciduous trees with their lacy and leafless branches in our local park created a fantastic scene! It just proves that even on a cold day with little colour available, one can still get some great photos. It's one of my own favourites!
I used to live right near the main entrance of Watkins Glen State Park. It made it quite convenient to get photos throughout the year.

I used my Nikon DSLR for this one. It takes more work than the phone camera and I only post my best shots, of course.

I can get to this spot just in time for autumn and winter sunsets. It's away from traffic and up high enough to see the area well. The light snow helped the landscape look great.

This is just a nice little scene in the area where I live, that I felt compelled to take a picture of -- especially with this couple walking by, giving me this lovely reflection. If you happen to know the photos of my boyfriend Sion, you'll notice this is VERY much in his style -- due to his own obsession with reflections!
I guess it's true if you live with someone long enough, you start to become just like them and pick up their habits!!

Taken with a 1st gen iPhone
This was taken at a cold snap at the start of the year. The sky was so colorful and the ground was frozen. In the next couple of days I'm looking to have a slightly different look to my photos.

Its hard for me to believe I used a film camera today. More on that another time as uncertain results await. For now let me just say I have even more appreciation for my iPhone! Here's a new image from it.

During the local weather last night the meteorologist noted that the crescent moon and Venus were low and beautifully visible on the horizon. I stepped onto the deck and, sure enough, there they were. The only camera I had handy -- and the scene was sinking fast -- had the 70-200 zoom attached. The tripod was upstairs. I did my thing with the ISO bumped up and with the camera braced against the deck railing. The night sky is a humbling thing, isn't it?
This is one of the scenes from my outing to the hills yesterday!
Today I had my first art class and had a blast, I'll try to post a photo of the painting I did, tomorrow if I have time...this sure has been one busy week and I hope to get a few hrs rest Sunday because tomorrow has already shaped to be another busy one lol
Wishing you all a magical weekend!
With much love
Nat :)
The ruins of St. John's Episcopal Church in Harpers Ferry stand high on a hill. The church was built in 1852, as one of the first few in the town. It had its uses during the Civil War but was abandoned soon after.

It was a much needed break between snowstorms. Searching for a scene near sunset was a must.

At this point the clouds moved over the sun enough to knock down the strongest light. It became more interesting to see the sun's rays work through the dark clouds. Even a snowless winter landscape can be appealing.

It was hard to find an elevated spot to get a sunset photo. I found a safe place to pull over and got this shot.

A cold front moved through, bringing some nice clouds. It was a bit windy so I got a few photos in a short period of time.

This is the very top part - Just past the footbridge. I never noticed the small tree there until it lost its leaves and formed a frame.
I wandered outside on a warm winter night. A street light illuminated these trees and it caught my interest. Some creative editing made for an interesting result.

The mind and ways of GOD are different from the thoughts and acts of man.
As we follow Him closely, we discover that we have to:
“lose to gain”
“surrender to win”
“die to live”
“give to receive”
“serve to reign”
“scatter to reap”
In “weakness” we are made “strong”.
In “humility” we are “lifted up”
In “emptiness” we are “made full”.
Trust in His ways and you will never be lost.
Have a meaningful Lent my friends.
Another round of snow for the area. This time it fell softly and was more pleasant. We need spring to arrive soon, as it should.

"Moody Rural Winter Scene - Solitary Tree" by Patti Deters. A lone leafless tree stands along a rural fence line in an otherwise empty and barren field and the winter sun can barely peak through the cloudy overcast sky. Though the weather is cold, bleak, and dreary this frozen country scene has its own kind of minimalistic beauty. Several textures and overlays have been applied to this vertical photograph for artistic effect, and to convey the moody atmosphere. "Moody Rural Winter Scene - Foggy Field" by Patti Deters. One single solitary and leafless tree endures in an otherwise empty and barren field in northern Minnesota. The winter sun is just starting to peak through the cloudy and overcast sky, even though it is mid-day. Though the weather is cold, bleak, and dreary this frozen country scene has its own kind of minimalistic beauty. The sun flare helps to dispel the moody atmosphere. A small tree growing up in a wetland marsh in the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in Volusia County, Florida. Shot in digital infrared.
The sunlight made it through the storm clouds at sunset. It was one of the few weeks where snow completely covered the ground as far as I could see.

I enjoy seeing the beaver dams along Owasco Inlet. I'm not used to seeing them in most places I visit. One of them is surprisingly large, it is in the background of this photo.

It was nice to return to the old neighborhood. The state park trails aren't open for the season so I visited other sites. Fortunately we've had enough precipitation to make the falls flow well.

The Palmer Park lighthouse in December lacks the backdrop of the bright green of summer or the gold and red of autumn--but it is still an impressive sight. No Great Lakes freighters will slip by, and the ducks and geese pay little attention, but the lighthouse rules the islands of Lake Frances.
I didn't give myself time to get the amazing sunrise before work. Afterwards I was able to get some photos. I don't mind trying to work with the harsher light.

"Moody Rural Winter Scene - Sun Flare" by Patti Deters. The empty fields and barren landscape of northern Minnesota in winter is made a bit brighter by the sun flare in this photograph. The sun was barely able to peak through on this cloudy, gray day - but enough to create some interesting light flares in the otherwise dreary sky. The rural countryside is near Detroit Lakes and shows evidence of the snowy weather from the day before. It was quiet and the clouds covered the sun enough to make the perfect lighting conditions. Warmer than usual, only a bit of snow and ice remained in the gorge.

A late November winter storm provided a light covering of snow. I've always liked this old house and the surrounding vineyard. It's a quiet setting in the Hammondsport area.

It was a frustrating week but I made time to get this shot. It was a nice sunset but I was stuck in town. I figured I'd think simple.
Taken Thanksgiving Weekend 2015.
I liked my old color version, went back and made it into B&W. I like this result better.

I missed getting the shot I wanted when the sun was higher in the sky. I didn't have the best place to pull over and safely get a photo. Then the sun dropped and it got dark quickly. This is the photo I ended up getting. Not bad for taking photos before sunrise the same day.
The cloud formations stood out to me for this sunset. There seemed to be a sense of motion to them even though the sky was still.
