Atlanta AV production and rental by Spectrum Productions. This cultural event featured a huge 18ft x 30ft 5mm LED Wall. Other visualization was a pair of Barco HDX-18 projectors for i-mag. Production highlights include a six camera switch driven by a Broadcast Pix Granite 5000 video switcher with Hitachi Z-HD5000 broadcast camera. A Yamaha M7CL and db Technologies line array provided sound and lighting was controlled by Jands Vista running Martin Mac2000, Elation ZFX Pro, and Platinum Spot 5r, Sharpies, and Solaris Flares and ETC fixtures. While you can power a BlinkM directly from the Arduino's pins, the BlinkM won't be as bright as it can be and you can only drive one or two. A little NPN transistor like a 2N2222 or 2N3904 can act as a switch for the BlinkM power.

This test board for the micro-readerboard has the 17-segment LED display (socketed) on one side, and a 20-pin DIP ZIF socket on the other side. This allows one to quickly swap out the chip, and to swap out the display if needed. A 2xAA battery box powers the system.

my original AAA solitaire LED upgrade died some time ago and I ultimately gave up on trying to find a replacement due to multiple sources telling me it probably wouldn't happen. Surprise surprise, they're being made again and are $9.99 each. Nice upgrade for the little AAA lights.

Inspired by looking up on Internet at beautifully made Scurion lights I made my new helmet light yesterday. Powered by 7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion pack it gives 70 or 120 mins burntime. Diffuser is optional but I like yo have it rather than spot. 5 modes from bright to part power to 2 modes of strobes. It is not intended for deep diving but could easily hold 20m depth. Light cord is adjustable for belt worn canister option and it is an umbilical rubber tube with signal cable (has a non-conductor steel wire for strength). 5x3W Cree star LED assembly from China (DX#35241) claimed to have over 1200 lumen luminosity. In fact it is comparable side by side to 10W HID light. My redneck replica of Scurion is made of stock 2" pipe s40 PVC and aluminum) and other parts found in Home Depot. LED was about $30 and was long time lost piece in my garage mess. Cable glands are bike check valves sealed thread with teflon ( valve core removed).

Led by Honolulu District Commander Lt. Col. Thomas D. Asbery, 14 District teammates and their friends and partners hiked to Makapu’u Lighthouse on April 15, 2013 to celebrate the 108th anniversary of the District’s founding.
The Corps’ history in Hawaii and the Pacific began in 1905 when Lt. John Slattery became the Honolulu District’s first commander. His original mission was to construct lighthouses for navigation, like Makapu’u.
Makapu’u Lighthouse was built by the Corps in 1909 on a 600-foot sea cliff overlooking Makapu’u Beach in southeast Oahu. Makapu’u Point is an important location passed by all ships moving between Honolulu and the U.S. Mainland.
The critical need for this light was demonstrated in August 1906 when the 27,000-ton S.S. Manchuria ran up on a reef off the point. Congress had already appropriated $60,000 for the light on October 1, 1909.
The lens for this light was one of the wonders of the Pacific. Press clips of the time noted that the lens, which had been exhibited at the Jamestown Exposition, was one of the most expensive in the world.
The lighthouse is 46-feet-tall (14 meters) and was fully automated in 1974. It is still an active U.S. Coast Guard navigation aid in use today.
