A very beginner sewing project, delayed by my poor math skills. The fabric is The Dinner Thief by kayajoy on Spoonflower (www.spoonflower.com/fabric/787903).
Eventually I'll make proper tiebacks with the leftovers!
All new counter space that we didn't have before. And the best part...with so much space, I actually have places to put things instead of on the counters!
Good food, busy kitchen, and pretty waitresses, what more could you want?! :)

What we did: Oh boy ... lots. Replaced all appliances, new countertops, new sink, tore out cabinets for stove (there was an "inwall stove" prior), new flooring, expanded mount for fridge, tore out pantry (where fridge stands) ... oh, and repainted, twice.

Our set designer and photographic stylists were responsible for all the creative production designing all the Kitchen layouts and the interior design of the room decor.

Description:
This turn of the century house in San Marino needed a lot of work. In addition to areas (kitchen, bathroom and more) being in disrepair it urgently needed a face lift. We eliminated some (structural) walls and relocated others, creating space for a modern and inviting kitchen. The style of the house, however, was to be preserved. The open beam ceilings and the rich hardwood floors, for example, matched the original craftsman elements. Some very cost-effective yet surprisingly effective upgrades at the exterior were done as well. Some doors/windows were relocated or changed. The old broken flat work was replaced and some painting took care of the rest for the most part. The result is a house true to its heritage, but free of the dated systems and broken elements. More so, the result is a lasting and inviting space for the entire family and their friends to get together and create life long memories!
Tips & Advice:
Original, structural ceiling beams could be emulated with authentic looking plant-on beams. Distressing and properly finishing the wood to match the age-old original is a must. Exteriors could be refreshed for fairly little. Removing a dated window, installing French doors, some minimal hardscape and landscape and tasteful painting should do the trick!

I've been wanting to try a standing workstation for quite a while now and I finally took the plunge a few weeks ago. Like the author of this post on Web Worker Daily, I didn't want to spend a lot of money setting it up. After experimenting to find just the right height, I discovered that I could obtain that height simply by using an empty cardboard box from our food delivery service (I even get a new box each week with my fruits & veggies delivery).
The best thing about this compact setup in my kitchen is that at the end of each day I tear it down and pack it up, which takes all of 5 minutes and puts a firm cap on the number of hours that I end up working.

Okay, here is the updated kitchen. The painters showed up less than a week after we got the keys, because y'all KNOW how I feel about oak cabinets. It's so much brighter in here! Our realtor popped by the week before last and liked it a great deal.
Having had my fill of ceramic-top stoves, the one here will be replaced with a big fat gas stove. (Vintage if we can find one!)
I have many plans for this kitchen. Many many. ;)
