I bought this house for 600 bucks...I recently put it on HGTV's Rate my Space to see if anyone had any comments on how to decorate it. I ended up starting a blog to share what I had done with everyone...it turned out really well for a free kitchen!

The feature I love least about our home is the kitchen sink. Now the tap is broken. The landlord is coming to take a look. Hopefully he will see the necessity to replace the whole rotten counter, but I'm not optimistic.
Update at 5:48 pm: Thanks largely to our neighbour from the next unit, who offered to help (inexpensively) the landlord with the repair, and who doesn't take s*** from anyone, we have a brand new countertop. Now he's installing the old sink with a new faucet.

Kitchen in an abandoned Legion house.
Fell down the stairs this week & dicked my shoulder. Filled with pain killers & anti-inflammatorys. Then burnt my arm on the glass of the gas fireplace trying to turn it off. What a week. Hopefully I'll be able to explore soon!

Remodeled kitchen now features Mocha Paperstone countertops, wet bar, new oak flooring and maple Canyon Creek Cabinets; tile backsplash w/ stainless steel detail.
The homeowners wanted to update their kitchen and asked us to design and implement a plan that would address the following needs. Utilize the dining area and increase the counter top and storage capacity of the kitchen. By eliminating the wall between the kitchen and dining area we were able to meet all their needs. The look and function of the kitchen completely changed when the kitchen and dining areas were integrated. We constructed a half wall which provides some division but allows shelving, cabinetry and a separate work space to be created. We gained uninterrupted counter space by moving the refrigerator to the other side of the kitchen and created a peninsula. This adjustment altered the traffic pattern by removing the old peninsula that acted like a road block when trying to enter the old kitchen. We addressed the issue of storage not only by creating the peninsula and separate cooking area, but by incorporating the built-in hutch in the dining area. Two large utility cabinets were placed on each side complemented with open display shelves and a wine rack. The base cabinets provide additional storage space for dishes and the center drawers can be used for table linens. The overall design maximized the use of the rooms and provided the open and welcome feeling the homeowners were looking for.
