At roughly ten stories high, Proxy Falls are so intense in size and magnitude that you can just photograph sections of the falls and still get dramatic results. This image represents just the lower one third of the falls, and its still breath taking.

I headed out this afternoon to capture sunset, and indeed got some great shots - but this one in the late afternoon sun lit up Tetherow golf course in amazing light and clouds.

Last night a photographer buddy & I headed out on the Cascade Highway to Mt. Bachelor to shoot some night shots. The moon was new and the isolation on this highway made for pure skies and very little light pollution. Our reward was every star imaginable and the Milky Way in all it's majesty.

2:00 pm

Black Mask presses the up button on the elevator and tries to find the number of his office

Black Mask: “God dammit, how many floors are there in this place.”

He presses 54 on the elevator keypad and the door closes. He hums the entertainer for a couple minutes when the elevator door opens, revealing his office. Wood flooring with white walls, and a black ceiling including a bar, multiple couches, a spot under the floor to store dead people, and a large desk with a massive window watching over Gotham city.

Black Mask: “I love this place.”

He jumps onto his chair and relaxes, undisturbed, peaceful. BEEP. His phone buzzed loudly startling him. He picks it up.

Black Mask: “WHAT DO YOU WANT JESSICA.”

Jessica was Black Mask’s secretary.

Jessica: “Sir, some face’s want to see you downstairs.”

Black Mask sighed, this was code for meeting with the False Facers.

Black Mask: “Tell them to wait 2 hours, because I’M TRYING TO RELAX!”

Jessica: “It’s urgent.”

Black Mask: “Is it worth my time.”

Jessica: “Some GCPD news.”

Black Mask: “I'll be down in a second.”

Black Mask sighs and walked over to the wall, pressed a button. The door slid away revealing a secret elevator. He pressed the down button, and the door closed. The elevator came to a halt and the door opened, revealing a giant table with the False Facers around it.

Black Mask: “Take off those masks, this isn’t a ****ng tribe is it now.”

The False Facers removed their masks and set them on the table.

Black Mask: “ I heard something about the GCPD, spill.”

He jumps into his chair as one of the members stood up.

Facer 1: “We overheard Gordon talking about breaking into here to steal our files.”

Black Mask: “That’s it. I mean Gordon has been on our tails for years, this is nothing new.”

Facer 1: “He said that someone left a footprint on your file in the GCPD evidence room.”

Black Mask: “Who was it?”

Facer 1: “Facer 9”

Black Mask: “Was it on purpose?”

Facer 1: “Most likely not, he’s been with us for a while.”

Black Mask: “Is he here?”

Facer 1: “He’s where you would think he would be.”

Black Mask slouched more comfortably in his chair.

Black Mask: “Excellent, does he know about Gordon?”

Facer 1: “Yes, Facer 246 reported it to him.”

Black Mask: “Good, and how is Facer 246 behaving?”

Facer 1: “Very respectful, he has reported everything without any hesitation, very loyal.”

Black Mask: “Very good, just make sure he keeps reporting because if the GCPD finds out, this whole mole operation would be crumbled.”

Facer 1 sat down in chair as Black Mask sat up.

Black Mask: “Ok, anything else you guys want to tell me?”

The room was dead silent.

Black Mask: “Well thanks, I just wasted a solid 5 minutes coming down to get information that you guys could’ve sent me through a ****ING TEXT. THINK PEOPLE.

He got up and headed for the elevator door. It opened and he walked in, pressed the up button, and the doors closed.

Black Mask: “I swear to God the next time I’m going to see Gordon, I’m going to blow his brains out.”

Elevator stopped at his office, and Black Mask walked in and jumped in his chair and glazed outside his window. He sees the GCPD building all the way out there in the distance.

Black Mask: “Which is going to be very soon…”

He relaxes in his chair and sighs in relief, waiting for what’s coming next….

A shorter chapter I know, but definitely needed for the story. I'm leaving for my schools spring break band and choir trip tomorrow, so no anything for about 2 weeks, so yeah...

I took this photo earlier this year on a cold, damp winter night in downtown Portland, Oregon. The color version was decent, but this monochrome treatment seems to capture the mood and energy of Portland on a drizzly night perfectly.

Down at the sunset grill. This was our view while we BBQ'ed in Kihei with family, and as I've shared before, these colors would seem fake if you haven't witnessed a Maui sunset in person. This is really what the sky can do on a special night.

I just returned home from an epic family weekend, camping alongside a beautiful lake with good friends. It was the perfect spot to celebrate Father's Day with my wife and kids, and this was one of the vistas we had from our camp site.

Technical Stuff: This is a bracketed 9-exposure image, merged into HDR and then converted to monochrome with red filter in Nik SilverEfex.

***Update, November 2015 - I just learned that the "Listen" has significance. It is a recognized part of local graffiti culture in Edmonton--the word 'listen', often paired with the drawing of a bird, can be found all over the city. Its intrigue lies in its anonymous start and open interpretation. Here I thought it was just humourous, given that there is no possible way to listen to anything on that phone! For more information on Listen or Listen Bird, click here.***

All day long I had a good feeling about shooting sunset tonight, even though the blue skies were pretty much clear and uneventful all day. Not really what you hope for to get good lighting at sunset. But by 5pm, ominous dark storm clouds had moved in - and by the time I reached Dillon Falls - the clouds were accompanied by thunderclaps and cracks of lightning. And then, just minutes before sunset ... this happened. God I love this town.

Technical Stuff: 60 second exposure at f/6.3, 22 mm, ISO500.

So, I've had this new computer for a week and a day and it does things in the night without benefit of human hands or doggy paws.

First it changed my carefully selected screen saver, not this one, for an old photo from my documents that had sad memories for me. Surprised in the morning to see that one!

Second, it replaced my second selection with one of its own on another night.

Yesterday, unknown to me but spotted by daughter Kerri, it had changed the icon for my Flickr account!! To a surfboard shower instead of my Benni Girl! Unacceptable.

Plus this shows how much smarter the computer is than I am - it took me forever 5 or 6 years ago to change my icon. Easier now.

So, there really is a ghost but I'm being forgiving because it's beautiful to look at, fast as lightning, wireless mouse and keypad that can be charged by the computer, etc. etc.

Welcome? Ghost.

As best I try, I don't think a single photograph or collection of images can do Sparks Lake justice - or convey the incredible beauty and tranquility of being here in person. When I shot this photo it was 5:09 am, the air temperature was 27 degrees fahrenheit - and I was lakeside all by myself, watching the mist silently drift across the lake's surface. As it turns out I wasn't completely alone though, as a deer was maybe thirty yards away studying me with curiosity.

I've said it before, but it bears mentioning again. Sunsets are like fingerprints ... no two are exactly alike, even on the same night just moments apart. I took this photo exactly thirty five minutes before I shot my previous post "After The Storm". With this image I thought I'd hit the motherlode, and was completely happy with my results as I headed back towards my truck. Little did I, or any of the other dozen photographers know - Mother Nature was nowhere near done for the evening.

The beautiful and magnificent waterfalls between Nahiku and Hana. The beauty of working with a massive full frame raw file (in this case a 74MB file), is you can retrieve so much detail from the shadows and contours. A little dodging and burning, and spot adjusting sharpness and saturation makes this redux of a photo I shot last August look completely different. I encourage you to blow this one up full size with the lightbox, as it looks completely different.

After wondering what to do for a 'Water' theme, it wasn't until after a particularly crappy day at work that I had the inspiration for this shot. I think the remnants of our watery beginnings runs strong in my DNA as I have always felt at home submersed in H2O (well at least for a few minutes) wether it be kayaking, swimming, diving or surfing, So, after 'one of those days' at work (16 hours), it was nice to get in the shower and wash the day away.

This shot was taken with a single flash (Nikon SB800) set at 1\8th power with a small Lumiquest III softbox slightly above eye level and camera left. As for the water, this was provided by shower head held by me with the water temp on luke warm to freezing cold and with the bathroom window open to stop my camera lens from steaming up (fun!). The processing was done all in photoshop cs5 and is more about dodging and burning rather than the use of clever filters. It's a bit over the top and my technique requires a lot more practice but I decided to post it anyway as it was fun to shoot and edit.

To have this beach to myself at sunset with no else around, was one for my highlight reel. Tranquility.

At 46 degrees F' it was pretty cool this morning in Bend, but nowhere near as biting as the wind chilled 26 degrees I encountered at Sparks Lake. But with the cold temperatures came the first ground cover snow to really stick, and it didn't look like it was going to melt throughout the day. Elevation: 5,433 ft.

In going over some photo ideas Sophia asked if I'd ever heard the song 99 Balloons and I was like, of course! Well, she had a completely different concept. Then I morphed it into this. A fine example of how a song in your head can shift your visions. I was also keeping in mind that she has family that does hot air ballooning. High-five to Sophia for being brave enough AND light enough to let those balloons take her away for this photo... Who would have guessed only 15 helium filled balloons were capable of lifting a person off the ground??

My order of awesome kawaii keyboard stickers came in today, so I spent 15 minutes this evening putting them on the proper keys. The stickers for my F-keys are too big (cuz I have tiny F-keys), so they are left over. Neat huh?

Playing catch up on my numbers here (way behind where I need to be). Yes I know there's other numbers in this shot, they don't count LOL.

Benham Falls is about 15 miles south of Bend. As the Deschutes River gently eases its way through meadows and national forest, it suddenly comes to a descent that creates some very dangerous rapids and falls. It's beautiful, and the sound of the falls is deafening.
