A welcome return to East Anglia for 37403 Isle of Mull - the the SRPS's Type 3 worked the Greater Anglia 'short set' while on hire to DRS, but is now found employed on charters, such as Vintage Trains "The East Anglian Explorer" from Birmingham New Street to Great Yarmouth. 37403 catches the evening sun after a very unsettled after while powering over Trowse Junction at the start of the return journey, 1Z18 1811 Norwich to Birmingham New Street. 47773 was on the rear.

The Guelph Junction Express was a short lived venture which began in September 2008 and ran seasonally until August 2012. I caught up to one of their runs a week before Christmas 2009 passing the freight crew switching PDI.

81017 draws a Mossend – Shap rake of empty box wagons (used to supply Ravenscraig with limestone) away from Caldew Junction on 29 October 1983.

The train is being routed through the former Carlisle Joint Goods lines which bypassed the station. These station avoiding lines would close in a little over six months from this date following the catastrophic derailment that wrecked the Caldew Viaduct at Dentonholme.

Three big C&NW C628's are easing down to the LS&I connection near Empire Junction on October 18, 1986. The Alco era on the C&NW is near its end as the 4 axles were already retired as are a few of the 628's. By late December 1986 these three also will be replaced by SD50's and SD60's. 6701, 6727, 6706 roll empties toward Empire Mine. This is a rescan of a shot I posted a year or more ago. I didn't like how it came on then and decide to mess with it a little before I just put it on a thumb drive and gave up on it.

Trying to out run the rain, the Boats work up hill at Empire Junction with a string of Jennie’s in tow.

A convenient pedestrian footbridge gives a panoramic view over Leeds and Armley Junction below. On a beautiful summer evening, the low sun casts its low shadow and probably is straight into the eyes of the driver of the daily Kings Cross - Harrogate HST working. Having reversed at Leeds station, the HST set is on the final leg and is about to take the Harrogate line at Armley Junction, Leeds.

HST 43272 leads with 43312 bringing up the rear of 1D24 17:33 Kings Cross - Harrogate, passing Armley Junction at 20:06.

An NS clunker leads a coal train over the spaghetti bowl mess of tracks at Santa Fe Junction in Kansas City.

Not nearly as busy as the old days when the DW&P ran through here on the NP/BN - the dirt road was the double track route - but you can still catch some nice activity.

A couple of great looking SD40-2s head a south bound local through the refineries at Sand Creek Jn, south of Commerce City.

A pair of B30-7s lead the Hugo Job into M&D Junction now en route towards its namesake town after working UFP in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. M&D Junction was where the former NP Mulberry Line from Minneapolis joined the Skally Line between St. Paul and Duluth. Until the mid-1980s, Milwaukee Road and C&NW had trackage rights on the Skally Line out of St. Paul. When the BN abandoned the line between Hugo and North Branch, the MILW/CNW trackage rights trains were shifted to ex-GN rails, an arrangement that continues today under CPKC and UP. Today, the Commercial operates an isolated segment of the Skally Line between Hugo and Buerkle Road outside of White Bear Lake from a connection at M&D Junction.

A pair of ECOs lead J21 through Cardigan Junction meeting J42 with yet another pair of ECOs and some more. The J42 will wait for L506 to head east towards Withrow before taking its train to Humboldt.

My records failed to note the 47 but was certainly dragging 'Robert the Bruce" on the diverted 1O21 0910 Glasgow Central to Poole service.

In the background can be seen Bolton East Junction signalbox and then Trinity Street station.

Thanks to David Ingham (Ingy the Wingy) for sharing his photo of the same train at Trinity Street station I have managed to find out the 47 number after a mere 33 years !

A chance browse of realtime trains whilst travelling home this evening saw that 3Y90 was booked to pass Norwood Junction at the same time as my train was booked to arrive.

Taking the gamble, I decamped and the unit disappeared just in time for the all to familiar sight of a single headlight to appear.

Fradley Junction is a canal junction between Fradley and Alrewas near Lichfield, Staffordshire, England and the point at which the Coventry Canal joins the Trent and Mersey Canal. It opened in 1790, and several of the buildings around it, including The Swan public house, are grade II listed structures.

Locals and enthusiasts alike turn out to watch Springs Branch based 40143 working 'The Forfar Farewell' past the site of Alyth Junction station on the former Caley racetrack stretch through Strathmore.

Looking west with station and divergence to Alyth itself behind, the bridge abutments and dark line of trees on the right horizon marks the site of a flyover junction linking to the Newtyle and Dundee railway. Several other alignments are marked on the OS maps of the period, for a remote part of Forfarshire this area was certainly well served by the railway.

California Highway 190 and US Highway 395 meet in the small desert town of Olancha California in southern Owens Valley. The east side of the Sierra Nevada rise behind the town. The high point in the photo is Olancha Peak.

I've shared some photos and a bit of history of Santa Fe Junction in some earlier images. If you missed those here is a link to one: flic.kr/p/2mkNAgm

Check out that caption and the embedded link for a map if interested. Anyway, further exploration revealed that the Avenida Cesar E Chavez overpass to the north was partially closed resulting in virtually no traffic and blocked off lanes making it safe and relaxing for photography. This view looks south off the road bridge as a BNSF grain train heads to Argentine Yard crossing the diamonds on track 2088 of KCT Route 120 (the north-south corridor) and passing the searchlights at the 25th St crossing where we spend much time hanging out. Overhead an eastbound UP loaded coal train takes KCT Route 1514, the 1917 Kansas high line trestle, toward Union Station.

I highly recommend this technical route map if you're interested in learning more about how trains can be routed through the interlocking and the terminal complex as a whole: kctrailway.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/4-KCT-Map.pdf
