The crew of L506 uses a pair of GP40-2W's to switch the yard at Roma Junction Alberta. The road power for the next day's southbound sits in the yard just to the left of the conductor

Class25 D7676 arrives at Barnstaple Junction with a china clay train from Meeth in August 1973.

Renumbered February 4th 1974. It was a westcountry [LA] loco from December 1972 until August 1975 when it moved to Crewe.

25326 was the 232nd Class 25 withdrawn on January 23rd 1985. With thanks to Derbysulzers for the above information.

 

The Ilfracombe line had closed in 1970. 25063 with an inspection saloon was the last working to Ilfracombe on Wednesday 26 February 1975.

There had been consideration to reopen the line as a 'preserved' line but it ws not to be and track lifting commenced in June 1975.

The sun has very nearly set on the Pacers so with a good forecast I surfaced early this morning and took a trip out to try a few sunrise rail shots at Colton Junction.

It was a day when I set out from Bath on the 8.15 (73054), took the 9.55 to Highbridge (41296) and back on the 2,20 with 41208. Most of the day had been dull, but the sun came out during the afternoon

On the other platform is 76026 with Driver Kesteven who later gave me a footplate ride round the platforms before he departed with a stopper that connected with the Pines Express which hadn't passed through here for two and a half years

West Coast Railway Company Locomotive No.33029 leads inspection saloon No.999606 past Latchmere No.2 Junction on the 29th of September 2023, working the 11:21 2Z03 from Acton T.C. to London Waterloo.

 

This carried staff from various companies who were assessing the feasibility of diverting GWR trains to Euston or Waterloo when the GWML is closed for construction of the new Old Oak Common station.

 

Class mate 33207 is seen on the rear.

Hazelhurst Junction

 

Tonight I went out with the intention of walking to this bridge and back which is approx 3.5 mile there and back. I knew there was a problem with a collapsed bridge in the area but I did not expect the problem to start slap bang in the middle of the picture I planned to take. There is no water in the lock the other side this bridge and the lower footpath is closed. Unfortunately there was no way to avoid the rubbish orange plastic fencing beneath the bridge. Still one of my favourite views on this stretch of the canal.

Following on from the previous image here is a Eddie Bellass image taken from the Earlestown No1 box guarding the South Junction. Stanier Mogul 42956 is being turned on the Earlestown triangle in a period where the 60 foot Warrington Dallam turntable was out of use for repair.

* 42956 was withdrawn from 8F Springs Branch (Wigan) in September 1964.

I'm being watched as i photograph a Crosscountry Turbo 170 unit with the 1L40 1222 Birmingham New Street to Stansted Airport leaving March station and passing March East Junction signal box on the 3rd March 2025.

In de-branded First North Western livery, Class 142 142033 departs from Castleton station with the 15.03 Rochdale - Kirkby service. Castleton East Junction was the access point for the Heywood Standard Wagon Works.
