Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Floating Worlds - the gallery's debut solo exhibition with Los Angeles-based painter Stacey Rozich. The vibrant and richly detailed watercolor and gouache works on paper depict mystic scenes from the artist's folklore.
The alternate realm Rozich has created through her prismatic work is equal parts familiar and strange - a bird-like creature stops in a garden for a smoke break, a plastic bag sits beneath the seesaw where he sits and a miniaturized doppelgänger hands him a lighter. More spectral scenes depict curious rituals where cloaked and masked figures are surrounded by peculiar iconography.
The artist states, "Compelled by the enigmatic notion that our everyday terrestrial lives may be coexisting with another fully-functioning surrealistic plane alongside our own, I have sought to create this world through a series of vivid scenarios and portraits. As it turns out, this surreality may not be so different from our own reality: you’ll find that moments of miscommunication, embarrassment and awkward first dates can still occur regardless of your astral plane."
Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present In the Abstract, a group exhibition curated by Dasha Matsuura featuring new works by Abel Macias, Ellen Rutt, Rachel Strum and Madeleine Tonzi. Each artist brings a fresh perspective to contemporary abstraction, from geometric shapes to the suggestion of surreal forms.
Ranging from the purely abstract patterns in Ellen Rutt's textile based works to the loose landscape references of Abel Macias' work, each of the artists featured express intangible moments in each piece. Rachel Strum's (pictured above) work blaze in a riot of color and texture, creating a cosmic depth in each color field. Working with reclaimed and scrap textiles, Ellen Rutt engages the tradition of quilting in times of crisis to create fluid patterns and bold compositions.
Punctuating her works with points of entry, Madeleine Tonzi's paintings float across blush toned planes dotted with surreal architectural structures. Abel Macias' gestural paintings examine texture and pattern while intimating a natural space and visualizing a warm summer breeze. Each of the artists featured creates a non- specific space for the viewer to pour into.
this is a screen show of my website, and the initial design of a section of the website to display my BFA thesis show, Transgression, which was installed in the Main Gallery (3rd floor) of Northern Kentucky University's Fine Arts Building in April 2005.

'Nomathemba', installation, 2021
'Nomathemba' is een inter- en multi-dimensionaal gesprek. Experimenteel en voortvloeiend uit de ‘Alakondre Krutu’ met kunstenaars aangesloten bij Readytex Art Gallery.
Deze installatie is ook een gesprek tussen Kurt Nahar en EdKe. Voor EdKe heeft dit kunstwerk tot doel een ’magische polymorfe substantie’ te doen activeren. Deze substantie van kleur prikkelt alle zintuigen (Taussig, 2010). Kurt Nahar relateert het kunstwerk aan Nomathemba: de moeder van vertrouwen en hoop; een godin die over al haar kinderen waakt. Kurt stelt: "Ze verschijnt in moeilijke tijden als hoopgevend.”
Het kunstwerk is onderdeel van het onderzoeksproject 'deeep blue', van Miguel Keerveld. De verbeelding van het menselijke en het niet-menselijke is gebaseerd op de verstrengeling van het biologische, geologische, mechanische en spirituele: een cyborg feminist performance van het bovenmenselijke. Daarom bestaat het kunstwerk uit 55 onzichtbare brieven die zich via maskers manifesteren.

'Nomathemba' is an inter- and multi-dimensional conversation. Experimental and resulting from the ‘Alakondre Krutu’ with artists affiliated with Readytex Art Gallery.
This installation is also a conversation between Kurt Nahar and EdKe. For EdKe, the aim of this artwork is to activate a ‘magical polymorphic substance’. This substance of color triggers all senses (Taussig, 2010). Kurt Nahar relates the artwork to Nomathemba: the mother of trust and hope; a goddess who watches over all her children. Kurt says: "She appears in difficult times as the giver of hope.”
The artwork is part of the research project 'deeep blue', of Miguel Keerveld. The imagining of the human and the non-human is based on the entanglement of the biological, geological, mechanical and spiritual: a cyborg feminist performance of the superhuman. This is why the artwork consists of 55 invisible letters that manifest themselves through masks.

Art installation idea, investigated a site in East London with a lot of graffiti. Enlarged and focused on parts of the graffiti artwork and the idea was to create large decorative panels and place them in surrounding areas to add colour and interest to plain and dull spaces.
