'During WWI the price of rubber rose dramatically. Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone were concerned with this national issue. Edison planned to discover a domestic source of rubber from a latex (a white milky sap) producing plant. The three friends formed the Edison Botanic Research Corporation in 1927 and the lab was built in 1928 to support rubber research and development.
17,000 specimens of nearly 2,200 species were planted at the Fort Myers estate. Extensive research proved goldenrod, a common weed, produced latex. Edison's 1,090th patent received was connected to his rubber research, for the process of extracting rubber from plants.
Today the Laboratory is filled with original apparatus and equipment that Edison used to conduct his rubber research, as well as the cot where Edison took "catnaps" while working in the Laboratory.'

I really love this dress, I found it in a store where were so many beautiful dresses and clothes, but everything was really expensive, so I didn't buy this dress, but I'm still in love with her.

Though this little house was fun to make (and extremely time consuming), I will not be making any more in the near or far future! Once I began stuffing it, it started bulging.. I think it really needed an inside cardboard structure to keep it from losing its shape, which I really wish I'd thought of before stitching up the whole thing! Boo Hoo!!
Firebug, Firefly
Lighting sparks across the sky.
Treetops and Porch Swings
Licked with ash and smoldering.
Stay inside and wait for rain,
Wait for the clouds to come again.
I went exploring today. I've been wanting to go to this abandoned house for a long time and I figured that today was as good as any and I cycled (30km round trip!) just to check it out. At first I was worried that I would get yelled at or possibly even fall through the floor but those fears were dropped as soon as I realized that entire ceiling was moving and filled with bats!!! Needless to say I didn't stay in there as long as I had hoped but I did have fun in my short time there.
The building is from the gold-rush era that swept through the Rocky Mountains. There is a historic ghost town literally 200 metres behind this house but it was too busy to try and shoot photos in. I wish I knew more about the history behind this house but I suppose just being inside is the best I can get.
The post-processing was inspired by forest fires which usually taunt and tarnish the mountains here, but thankfully have been relatively silent.
I reached another milestone in my transgendered journey this week. Last September I approached the cosmetics counter at Lord and Taylor trembling inside asking for a foundation to provide good coverage. The first woman I spoke with directed me to the NARS counter. At this point I thought “oh no they are freaking out”, but the young woman I met Kasey, was polite and helpful. Over the next few months I would come back to build my needed stock of make-up. Each time she would teach me how to use the cosmetics and also encourage me. We had some in depth conversations about transgendered people and the world. During this time she would extend the repeated offer of a make-over. Now back 10 months ago I never would have dreamed of going out in public and getting a make-over. But over the last year I started to get my proverbial TG wings and have stated going out regularly.
So yesterday was the day, I showed up at Kasey’s counter where she greeted me with a smile. It was surreal to be sitting there, in the make-up chair, having all my life walked by watching with envy as women were getting make over’s. The make-over took about an hour. Kasey gave me some fantastic tips, each step of the way. I have had make over’s before but they were always done by TG artists, the look was ultra glamorous. I have always wanted to find a professional look, suitable for a transgendered woman like my self. Kasey did it; I loved the sophisticated but subtle look she gave me. I took a walk around the mall and felt like a princess. You can see the picture on my Flickr page.
After the make-over I headed out to the Paula Young wig’s factory store.
The women there were friendly and helpful, after awhile I was trying on dozens of wigs off the showroom shelf and finally wound up buying three. We has some great conversations, the women were asking me all about, why, how long, and where about my dressing. They gave a complements on my outfit. It was great to talk openly about so many things I have held inside for so long. There was another woman there, a customer, who was helping me pick out wigs and helped me style them. We sat and had some deep conversations about her life, her gay brother and my transgenderism. She kind rattle me when she told me that I make a great women, and she hoped someday I would seek re-assignment, since it was obvious that I was really a women. I have always considered my self a cross-dresser and her saying this kind of messed with my mind. When I was leaving I told the SA’s, “I never thought I say this but I can’t wait to get out of these heel and pantyhose” They laughed hysterically and said “Now you sound like a woman!”
The 60 000 Dassanech ("Dassanech means "people of the Delta"), alternatively known as the Dassaneth, Dassanetch, Geleb, Galeba, Marille and Reshiat, live in the delta of the Omo River where it flows into Lake Turkana in the south of the Omo Valley, in the region where Ethiopia borders Kenya and Sudan. The Dasenech are neighbored by Turkana and Bume and are Ethiopia's most southern people.
The Dasenech can however be divided in eight clans, they aren't a united people, but more like a cluster of small groups with shared language, land, and rituals. Dassanech seem to have natural antipathy against fish. Eating fish is really a last resort in times of crises.
The nomadic roots of the Dasenech are most clearly seen today in their traditional villages, comprised as they are of small, flimsy, domed huts strongly reminiscent of the impermanent structures built by other African desert pastoralists, from the Tuareg of the Sahara.
Omorate market of the Dassanetch has been serving for centuries as an important trading center. They exchanged clay pots for grain, Coffee and ammunitions.
Cattle are used by the tribesman for meat, milk and clothing. Of all the tribes in the Omo Valley, the Daasanech are the poorest. Because the Daasanech people come from multiple ethnic groups, both men and women must agree to be circumcised. With plastered front and back clay hair buns and other striking details, the hair style of the Dassanetch men is one of the most sophisticated in the Omo valley.
The most important ritual of the Dasenech is the so-called dime. A Daasanech man blesses his daughter's fertility and future marriage by celebrating the Dime. During a ceremony, the Dassanech men dance with large sticks and the women hold wooden batons. 10 cattle are slaughtered. Both men and women wear fur capes while they feast and dance. After the ceremony, the participants are upgraded to 'great men' and may engage in politics.

From an amazing old manor house in the middle of a busy city. Abandoned in the mid 1970's and are full of furnitures, old toys and other objects. Really a fascinating place and walking around there felt like a trip back in time.

Entry for a 7 deadly sins contest
_
If I could just hide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me
[The sinner in me - Depeche Mode]
Nearly surviving has become your purpose. So why…why would you risk it. Why let them see when honesty is too sharp for your shrill, fragile desperation? Will you stop speaking. You’re foolish and naïve. Like a loud ignorant child. You think you’re something different, something interesting. You aren’t, only unripe to meaning. Every word said that you brush off as envy or cruelty is truly honesty. You’re too weak and blind to see it. You’re too oblivious to catch it. I can see it in your eyes, the way your stomach is cringing, begging everything to stop. I can see you biting your bottom lip - a nervous habit. I see the blood from the pressure of your discomfort. I know you. I see the way you chip your nail polish nervously…
I’m inside of your core. Past all the securities and that stubborn back bone. It’s a museum here. Quite beautiful if I might say so. Only because it’s empty and my voice echoes. I know you feel it, the way the script off my tongue clings to everything inside of you and how slowly you begin to disintegrate. You slowly begin to crumble. You feel it, you feel it so strongly. It hurts and it steals your breath away. You want somebody. you need somebody. But no one is home, everyone has somewhere to be and go and live. So you sit here, you feel the stability of your core abruptly begin to sway and diminish. You will fall…
And I did. I collapsed. The bridge that carried reminiscing truth was split and integrity tumbled into the shallow waters that drowned them merciless. I was dying. Dying from the inside out. Something though glowed, under the crashing waves of this suffocating pain. Perhaps a glimmer of the past but enough to uncurl my fingers and stretch them out , letting the bone reach past its skin…hoping. no, praying something out there might just reach back…
Take your SEW on the road ...

Part one was posted yesterday :-)
Another day spent in the photo studio with Ian Ruhter. I was a bit busier than yesterday, but it was just awesome.
This was taken inside of The Program office, where we had taken over and turned into a photo studio for the day. I didn't know what this little display was for, but the mock-airplane came complete with Burton luggage, playing cards, snowboard magazines, and of course...mini bottles of booze. The head boss guy walked by as I was shooting this and said, "Ohh, good! You're taking pictures in our airplane!" Embarrassing...kind of...

Saint Mark's Basilica is a monument made unique by both its wealth of history and the magnificence of its façade and interior. In essence, it is a splendid workshop, where, through the centuries, worked great Italian and European artists.
Most of the present structures were built during 12th and 13th centuries, although a church was there in the same place from at least 6th century. The church is rich with engravings, sculptures and paintings inside by renowned artists and the outside i decorated by marble columns and picturesque engravings on the facades. It is such a historic beauty of architecture and art blended so ornately..
The Church and St.Marks Square also was very important in the political, social and art history of Venice and so of entire Europe.
The interior is based on a Greek cross, with each arm divided into three naves and emphasized by a dome of its own and one dome above the crossing. The dome above the crossing and the western dome are bigger in size than the other three. This is based on Justinian's Basilica of the Apostles in Constantinople. The marble floor (17th century, but underwent many restorations) is entirely tessellated in geometric patterns and animal designs. The techniques used were opus sectile and opus tessellatum.
The upper order of the interior is completely covered with bright mosaics containing gold, bronze, and the greatest variety of stones. The decorated surface is on the whole about 8000 m2. In the most ancient works, both Byzantine and Gothic influences can be recognized, as for example in the Saints from the 11th century between the windows of the apse. In the vault above is a mosaic with Christ Pantocrator. From the apse towards the entrance (from east to west) one can contemplate the history of Salvation in the domes: the Prophets, the Ascension, and the Pentecost (Whitsun). The domes over the transept are called St John’s (stories of St John the Evangelist) and St Leonard’s (with other saints). In the vaults between the domes are represented episodes of Jesus’ life.
As mentioned above, restorations and replacements were often necessary thereafter, and great painters such as Paolo Uccello, Andrea del Castagno, Paolo Veronese, Jacopo Tintoretto, and his son Domenico took part drawing the cartoons. Titian and the Padovanino prepared the cartoons for the sacristy, built in the late 19th century. Among the mosaicists for Titian's cartoons, was Valerio Zuccati of Treviso, and his brothers.

The plan was set. I had hostages, one was a glorified Gotham business man and the other was his wife. I wasn't planning on killing them, they weren't on my list, but I needed a bait for Uriel and Azreal. Then I needed a place to spring the trap, I chose Sionis's old mill, it had many cooling towers I could snipe off. The final part of the plan was to get their attention. I couldn't take over the TV channels, Zod already did that, it had to be something small, like a message, a message in a bottle.
It was early in the morning, all the cops were just starting duty. I was on the opposite building, with my grenade launcher loaded with a message, aiming it right at the window on the top floor, hopefully getting Gordon's attention. I fired it, smashing the once full window to shards of glass, just missing the bars on the window. The cops all stood back in horror thinking it was a bomb. Once they finally realised it wasn't, one detective, I believe his name was Arlington, opened the case and read the note. The note inside I wrote said "I have two hostages at Sionis Steel Mill on the top floor, if you want them alive you must obey my request. No police what so ever, only Azreal and his boy wonder Uriel are aloud on the scene. If you do not listen, the hostages will die, you have 12 hours. DS."
Hope you like it :D
