The mirrors were produced c1888 by James Carter of 273 Gray's Inn Road (over the road from The Water Rats but the building is modern) and are back-painted in both gilt and colour. Two of the mirrors are on the bar-back and are obscured by huge cheques showing how much had been collected for charity in one case, and in the other by numerous prizes to be raffled for charity. Part of the decoration on the mirror behind the raffle prizes looks like a jungle scene, so it is possible that this commemorates one of Nelson's first campaigns, an amphibious action in Nicaragua in 1781 where he nearly lost his life because of yellow fever. My latest sock pattern, Kestrel, is loosely based on Pepperknit's Anastasia pattern. This one is knit from the cuff down to the toe & has a short-row heel.

The white door is the one to my former office, when I started the work of the UDP at around the same time in 1992. This is now the Sacristy of the Cathedral, as there is a connecting door into the church itself. The other door (the brown one) is to the WC!
I scribed the designs for the numbers onto the sugarpaste and used a scalpel to cut out the shapes. It took a couple of go's to get a shape I was happy with.

I recently had my workspace moved to a new location at work. I now pass through a supply closet to access the stairs leading to the marketing communications group. This daily passage affords me an opportunity to examine the various office supplies we've stocked up for my 300+ coworkers.
A couple days ago I stopped for a double-take—it had suddenly dawned on me: we have whiteout.
*LOL, whut?*
This is a largely paper-free *software* company. Our work is performed on computers creating stuff for other computers. We don't *do* typewriters. We hardly do pen-and-paper. Why on earth do we stock whiteout?
I dunno… but this little bit oughta last us, oh, another century or so.

"One of my favorite sources for quilt inspiration is Tilman. He is a graphic designer with a tumblr account called 'geometrydaily' (geometrydaily.tumblr.com/) and he creates a minimal composition based on geometric shapes every day. This quilt is based on #296 Downpour. I loved how he used just two colors and two simple shapes in different frequencies to create a gradiated composition. Although I designed the quilt mathematically to have a specific number of navy and white squares and half-square triangles in each row, the position of each piece in each row is mostly random."
