Just a few of the 65,000+ Farne Island Guillemots, with a couple of Bridled Guillemots for good measure!
Guillemots are the most common auk found in the British Isles. They come to land only to nest, spending the rest of its life at sea, where they are vulnerable to oil spills. Dark brown and white, not as black as the similar razorbill, there is a 'bridled' form with a white ring round the eye and stripe behind it.
During spring Guillemots gather in massive and tightly packed breeding colonies, known as loomeries, on coastal cliffs and rock stacks. The females lay a single egg directly on a ledge. When the chicks are three weeks old they have to take a dramatic plunge from their rocky shelf into the ocean below. Guillemots are also commonly called murres after the deep murmurings made by groups of nesting and fishing birds.

Dear friends, with this image I shall start tonight a new series on my gallery called "Inner Landscapes". Landscapes within landscapes will be the dominant subject for a while, as I inspect and revisit some of my favorite locations in Rio de Janeiro in search for images that may convey a sense of mistery, intimacy or abstraction.
I must say that during the past weeks without posting anything here I missed you a lot, but I really needed to focus on my workshop, which was great, by the way! Thanks for your support!

What self-respecting evil genius wouldn't have a marquee floor in the entrance to their most private of chambers in their secret lair??
Oooh was this fun!!! A lot of the basic frameworks you guys have seen me using should hopefully all work great! It's amazing how much this project is actually starting to feel like "Evil Genius!"
Oh and I'm definitely going to need to be painting some pieces if I want a deep desert-night sky colored floor like they have in the game.
Those "doorways" or beams which cross the entry foyer were really just slapped together, and will eventually get some more attention.
More to the Inner Sanctum coming next week: this time, furniture!

Whilst driving over the 'Afsluitdijk' in the Netherlands I stopped to make this image of the play of light upon the 'Ijsselmeer' or Inner Sea.

Animal Inside Out allows visitors to get up-close and personal with the real inner workings of familiar and exotic animals whose bodies and body parts have been preserved through a process called plastination.
The exhibit features more than 100 specimens including translucent slices, blood vessel configurations, organ configurations, and whole-body plastinates. Highlights include giraffe, giant squid, ostrich, reindeer, and yes, some human specimens as well.
The specimens come through an established body donation program in cooperation with zoos, veterinary groups, and other organizations. No animal was harmed or killed for this exhibition. After the animals' death, their bodies are plastinated, a process invented by Body Worlds that halts decomposition to preserve specimens for scientific and medical education. In the process, all fluids in the specimen are removed and replaced with plastics and polymers, then cured using light, heat, and special gases.
The 16-foot-tall giraffe in the exhibit is the longest specimen ever plastinated. It required two years, 12 people, and 20,000 working hours to complete. MOI represents the first time it will ever be displayed in a high-ceiling atrium environment.
