Passing an open door in the old narrow lane I caught this very dark passage and the reflection of the light in the ceiling. The neighbourhood is full of life and colour with laundry on the dry, old ladies washing vegetables and chatting, small markets taking up more than half of the very narrow lane and the comings and goings of the day where people share their lives and there cannot be any secrets.
An old lady living here came through with a little white dog and wondered what I saw in this shabby place. I told her - life and beauty.
Always those ayes, green jade, a intense look, like you know everything...the question and its answer, all is inside.

I don't normally write much with my photos because my hope is that the pictures speak for themselves. However, many of you have asked why my daughter and I went to Africa. My wife and I decided a few years ago that it is important for kids to see other parts of the world as early an age as possible. We developed a plan that when our kids turn 16, I would take them to a third world country and just try to help people. Helping people in a third world country were the only rules. Some of you might remember when my oldest daughter and I went to Haiti in December of 2009. Well this time I took my middle daugter to Africa. My older brother is a missionary so I knew he would be able to help us get to remote areas that have a lot of need. Now I understand that I am probably bias because I think all of my kids are amazing, but my daughter blew me away on this trip. She dug her heels in and loved people in the most amazing way. We were delt our share of obstacles (lost luggage, rough accomidations, etc.) but she never complained. I was able to see an inner beauty in her that was amazing to me. It's funny when you step out of your confort zone and help people, you usually end up getting more out of it than you think. I've had two amazing trips with my daughters and I'm looking forward to the last one (I think she's leaning towards India).

This image from Webb’s Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) shows a group of galaxies, including a large distorted ring-shaped galaxy known as the Cartwheel. The Cartwheel Galaxy, located 500 million light-years away in the Sculptor constellation, is composed of a bright inner ring and an active outer ring. While this outer ring has a lot of star formation, the dusty area in between reveals many stars and star clusters.
The mid-infrared light captured by MIRI reveals fine details about these dusty regions and young stars within the Cartwheel Galaxy, which are rich in hydrocarbons and other chemical compounds, as well as silicate dust, like much of the dust on Earth.
Young stars, many of which are present in the bottom right of the outer ring, energize surrounding hydrocarbon dust, causing it to glow orange. On the other hand, the clearly defined dust between the core and the outer ring, which forms the “spokes” that inspire the galaxy’s name, is mostly silicate dust.
The smaller spiral galaxy to the upper left of Cartwheel displays much of the same behavior, showing a large amount of star formation.

Being passionate about animals and birds in particular, I don't get many opportunities to work with people. Last week, while I was testing a new low tide location for Swallows and Martins, this Lady sat behind me on a rock to meditate and she was so beautiful being kissed by the Sun that I had to take her picture. After meeting her and with her permission here is the result of that moment. Cheers everyone.
