I don't normally write much with my photos because my hope is that the pictures speak for themselves. However, many of you have asked why my daughter and I went to Africa. My wife and I decided a few years ago that it is important for kids to see other parts of the world as early an age as possible. We developed a plan that when our kids turn 16, I would take them to a third world country and just try to help people. Helping people in a third world country were the only rules. Some of you might remember when my oldest daughter and I went to Haiti in December of 2009. Well this time I took my middle daugter to Africa. My older brother is a missionary so I knew he would be able to help us get to remote areas that have a lot of need. Now I understand that I am probably bias because I think all of my kids are amazing, but my daughter blew me away on this trip. She dug her heels in and loved people in the most amazing way. We were delt our share of obstacles (lost luggage, rough accomidations, etc.) but she never complained. I was able to see an inner beauty in her that was amazing to me. It's funny when you step out of your confort zone and help people, you usually end up getting more out of it than you think. I've had two amazing trips with my daughters and I'm looking forward to the last one (I think she's leaning towards India).

Experimenting with longer exposures and capturing lighting. Must get a tripod that will work on the A75 (the big one Susy gave me won't fit)! This was taken with the camera (and me) sitting on the walkway by the Wax Museum. I am not a morning person, but the wind calmed from last night and I awoke with an urge to get outside and take morning pictures.

Though often known as a sea parrot, locally in Northumberland, the bird is known as a 'Tommy noddy'. It is a member of the auk family, alongside guillemots and razorbills .
Each year, puffins return to the Farnes to breed. This is generally between April and late July with the peak breeding season being in May and June. For the remainder of the year, the birds fly out to sea, overwintering on the water, only returning to land each year for a short window to breed and raise their young.
At the last count in 2013 there were nearly 40,000 breeding pairs recorded on the Farne Islands.Early indications for the quinquennial count this year are that there may well be a significant decline.
The Farne Islands are a National Trust managed property.

Being passionate about animals and birds in particular, I don't get many opportunities to work with people. Last week, while I was testing a new low tide location for Swallows and Martins, this Lady sat behind me on a rock to meditate and she was so beautiful being kissed by the Sun that I had to take her picture. After meeting her and with her permission here is the result of that moment. Cheers everyone.

This was a very art Christmas of giving for me this year. Everyone in the family got a painting or some sort of "work of art!" It was exhausting and exhilarating, and I hope it meant as much to them as it meant to me!
