The Implementation of America's First Self-Service Fare System for Buses

The Prevent duty is an important aspect of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. Since its introduction, all schools are required to take steps to prevent their pupils from being drawn into terrorism. These steps include helping children build resilience towards radicalisation, and ensuring that staff are able to identify children who are at risk of being radicalised. The implementation of the Prevent duty has caused controversy in the media as well as in the academic literature, where the duty has been accused of stigmatising children, dividing communities, and making the UK less safe.

The aim of this research is to examine how the Prevent duty is being implemented in different schools in North Hampshire and the impact it is having. We are also interested in identifying practices that head teachers think have worked well in their schools.

We have conducted semi-structured interviews with head teachers and are developing a report based on our findings. This report will be distributed to schools across Hampshire and will form the basis of an academic journal article. We hope that this research will help head teachers with the future implementation of the Prevent duty in their schools.

Alberta’s President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance Nate Horner introduced, in Edmonton on April 1, 2026, an additional bill to authorize and implement key components of Budget 2026.

Proposed amendments to the Financial Statutes Amendment Act, 2026 will focus supports on those most in need, attract investment, improve government efficiency and ensure Alberta’s laws remain responsive. The bill will also help build a solid insurance framework ahead of the new care-first auto insurance system being implemented in 2027.

Also in attendance at the news conference were Jason Nixon, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services and Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology and Innovation. (photography by Chris Schwarz/Government of Alberta)

Built in 1900 and 1904, these two Sullivanesque-style buildings were designed by Kees and Colburn for the Advance Thresher Company and Emerson-Newton Implement Company, respectively. The six-story Advance Thresher Company Building was built in 1900 and stands at the corner of 3rd Street and Park Avenue, with the Emerson-Newton Implement Company Building being built to the east in 1904, with slightly shorter floor heights and seven floors in total. The buildings both feature a unified cornice, limestone base, and orange brick facades, with near-identical Sullivanesque trim details, with extensive terra cotta trim around the entryways, reliefs flanking the window bays, on the spandrel panels, and forming the pilaster capitals at the tops of the window bays, with a narrow recessed brick panel marking the location where the two buildings join one another. The buildings differ in that the Advance Thresher Company Building features more strictly decorative ornamentation, while parts of the trim on the Emerson-Newton Implement Company Building feature the company’s products on the two cartouches flanking the window bays. The buildings are similar enough to appear as a single structure at first glance, with only subtle hints that the two are, indeed separate buildings. The side and rear of the buildings away from the street features a simple buff brick facade with rectangular window openings and a clearer delineation between the two. The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and today both house commercial office space.
