A quick iPhone shot taken as i was scouting conditions for my workshops last year. Fortunately this is a little over an hour from my house, so it's easy to head over for a day or sunset.

Panorama view of West Pond on this Easter Sunday.

Friday and Saturday the ice started to go out on the pond and today, Easter Sunday by mid afternoon the pond was almost completely free of ice.

The past few day's the temperatures have climbed up into the mid 80's and we have had a good deal of wind, both of which have taken the ice away and opned up the pond.

Our nesting pair of Loons are also back on the pond as of today. (:>)

The first signs of ice out on Two Island Lake near Grand Marais, Minnesota in the Superior National Forest, Cook County. This is just a stone throw from the BWCA. Ice out is about 10 to 14 days late at this point.

Time to put away the snow mobiles.

Had a tech conference in Ithaca today - good excuse to make a quick stop at the falls

Have to say, something was off with my camera with these shots. I'm generally left wanting with the Sony A6000 in low light, but here, with an especially bright and sharp lens, I found that at 400 ISO shots are grainy and detail isn't as crisp as I'd like. Yes, I was tired and using slow les speeds as not to open up my aperature as much, in an attempt to keep detail high, but still-- a lot of post processing was needed to get them to where they are here, and I'm not fully satisfied with these.

Grey and sullen was the day. I took another trip north of Sault Ste. Marie, to try to capture the Aquamarine ice build-up along the shoreline. The weatherman promised sunny weather as he quick fingered the sky on his prompter. A five hour drive later, there was not a stitch of blue sky to be seen anywhere. The winds had blown the majority of the ice a few miles out into open water, a bust yes, but still nice to visit the big lake once again.

Over two months ahead of last year (April 30).

- www.kevin-palmer.com - Most of the ice was gone from Saratoga Lake, which allowed the moon to reflect in the water.

Members of the activist group Rise and Resist gathered at the plaza outside the Staten Island Ferry in Manhattan on April 22, 2021 to continue their weekly Immigration Vigils demanding that the Biden administration permanently stop detaining and deporting immigrants, to dismantle CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and to create a path to citizenship for all. The ice is finally out of most of the lakes and ponds in Southern Maine. Did anyone enter the ice out contest?

Yesterday the ice started to go out on West Pond and by mid afternoon today, Easter Sunday it was pretty much completely ice free. (:>)

At the Gladstone light-tower, on the north shore of Lake Michigan. There was actually a lot more ice at the head of the bay, but at least there was some open water near the light tower in Gladstone. The Escanaba area (a few miles further south) is open.
