Chippenham Park is a large country house with substantial gardens, lakes, woodlands walks and parkland dating back to the 17th Century. The spectacular gardens are open to the public several times a year from Spring through to Autumn.
The Park is also available for weddings, special events and photographic shoots.
The gardens received a top, two-star rating in the Good Gardens Guide 2010, placing them amongst the finest gardens in the country.

The Gardens...
Chippenham Park was created at the very end of the 17th century as an 'Anglo-Dutch' designed landscape comprising canals, park, and formal gardens.
It was subsequently informalised by 18th and 19th century designers including William Eames and Samuel Lappidge. Chippenham Park contains a wealth of earthworks and waterways which relate to the parkland and garden landscapes and to the village settlement which pre-dated the park.
Features that have remained surprisingly static through history include the walled kitchen garden, the formal waterway on the east side of the park; and complex waterways south of the kitchen garden. Some of the trees, including those marking the original drive from the west.
The Gardens Now...
When Anne Crawely moved to the Chippenham Park estate in 1985 she immediately set about restoring and expanding what had once been a great garden.
There is now possibly the greatest display of snowdrops and aconites in East Anglia and the Spring Garden with its breath-taking display of daffodils, narcissi and shrubs stretches for half a mile around the lake. Additionally there are recently restored and cleared great canals created in the 18th century.
The summer garden has a huge display of nearly 500 roses and a generously stocked ‘Long Border’ of perennials and shrubs of about 250 metres in length. The ‘Wilderness’ is a wooded walk full of fascinating berrying trees and shrubs, some quite rare which has interest all year round.
Most recently she has created from dereliction a contemporary, formal garden in the old kitchen garden. This bold garden makes use of pleached pears, beech hedging, yew and lawn as well as a massive arched colonnade of leylandii to divide the 5-acre walled garden. The four quads feature large terracotta jars of Spanish and Greek origin set amongst grasses, a large earthwork mound and a theatre of yew.
At the North end of this garden is a substantial and beautiful house created from the old 18th century head gardener’s cottage and glasshouses.

- I just spent the afternoon in a wonderful nature park in Sainte-Catherine on the St-Lawrence River (Fleuve Saint-Laurent) facing the Lachine Rapids. I had never been there. This is a beach right next to the river at the entrance of the park. I took this photo through the chain-link fence as I was leaving and the sun was setting. The water level is obviously much higher during the bathing season. It was very hot! Our Summer has finally arrived (we had so much rain since the Spring until mid-August.). Now, we have real Summer weather.
- Je viens de passer l'après-midi dans un magnifique parc nature à Sainte-Catherine au bord du Fleuve Saint-Laurent face aux Rapides Lachine. Je n'y étais encore jamais allée. Ceci est la plage juste à côté du fleuve à l'entrée du parc. J'ai pris la photo à travers la clôture de métal comme je quittais et que le soleil se couchait. Le niveau de l'eau est évidemment bien plus élevé durant la saison de baignade. Il faisait très chaud! Notre été vient d'arriver (on a eu tellement de pluie depuis le printemps jusqu'à la mi-août). Maintenant, on a une vraie température d'été.

I always imagine the worst. The other day I was driving on the highway in the car pool lane with Mary. The center divider was whizzing by. I imagined the car flipping. The accident had killed us both. It's not like I make an effort to go there. It just seems sometimes to be where my mind wanders. I run through these scenarios to their horrible ultimate conclusion.
At work, I spend hours on the phone cataloging the hardships of strangers. The woman who's mother died has been left with a house in foreclosure. A husbands wife was hospitalized with a mental disorder after she went on a two week spending spree. He's now over $60,000 in debt. Meanwhile, I've got my rent check. I've got Mary. I tell myself I'm lucky.
I just finished reading Joan Didion's book 'The White Album.' In it she writes this fragment...
"Quite often during the past several years I have felt myself a sleepwalker, moving through the world unconscious of the moment's high issues, oblivious to its data, alert only to the stuff of bad dreams..."
Didion starts the book by saying, "We tell ourselves stories in order to live." Only, she's writing about a period of time where she 'began to doubt the premises of all the stories' she had ever told herself. I'm not there yet. I still cling to the narrative that I impose on the disjointed and incongruous events of my workday, as well as to the images of my bad dreams. I end up writing the moral. I tell myself a story in order to live. I tell myself I am lucky.

Ce devait être à l'origine une ville que son mécène, Eusebi Güell, lui avait demandé d'édifier sur une colline du Sud de la ville (El Carmel). Conçue sur le modèle anglais (son nom initial était Park Güell et non Parque Güell), elle devait comporter une chapelle et en tout 60 maisons. Mais le coût augmenta dans de telles proportions que seuls furent achevés deux maisons et le parc. Ce dernier devint propriété de la ville de Barcelone en 1922. Il est devenu l'un des lieux les plus fréquentés de la ville.
Gaudí s'est efforcé de conserver le relief naturel et, laissant libre cours à son imagination, a donné naissance à une œuvre originale tout en courbes. Fidèle à son style, il a créé une œuvre qui s'intègre à la nature et qui la reproduit, les colonnes des allées simulant par exemple des troncs d'arbres.
En haut de l'escalier principal avec la fontaine au dragon, symbole de l'alchimie et du feu, se trouve la salle Hypostyle. Cette salle, appelée également Salle des 100 Colonnes, bien que seulement 84 aient été achevées, se situe sous la place centrale du parc. À l'origine, Gaudi l'avait conçue pour accueillir un marché.
La place est bordée par un banc qui ondule comme un serpent de 150 mètres de long. Ce banc est remarquable: assis dans une boucle, on est à l'abri et on voit ses voisins, dans un espace intime, tout en ayant la vue sur le reste du banc. Assis à l'extrémité du méandre, on s'ouvre au monde de la place, prêt à faire des rencontres.

Lugo is the only city in the world to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls, which reach a height of 10 to 15 metres along a 2117 m circuit ringed with 71 towers. The walk along the top is continuous round the circuit, and features ten gates. These 3rd century walls are protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The bridge over the Minho is essentially of Roman date, though many repairs over the centuries have effaced its Roman character......

Se conoce como la primera iglesia construida en Orizaba, construida en el año de 1564. El 1642 fue erigida como parroquia durante siete años (poco tiempo después fue nuevamente capilla, pues el cargo de parroquia fue pasado a la entonces nueva Parroquia de San Miguel
This replica of Detroit's Edison Illuminating Company Station A is one of the many structures that make up Greenfield Village. While many buildings are original structures brought in from other locations, this is a one-quarter size replica of the original. (I assume this means the footprint was one-quarter size, but the height was full-size, but I don't know.) Station A burned coal on the first floor to provide steam power to dynamos on the second floor to produce electricity; it operated between 1886 and 1900. Henry Ford began his career as a steam engineer at Edison's Station A, became chief engineer in 1893, and was working here when he built his first car, the 1896 Quadricycle. He left to make cars in 1899, a venture that finally succeeded in 1903. The car at the left was part of the Greenfield Village Old Car Festival, which Ruth Ann and I attended September 11 with Flickr friend Steve Brown (sjb4photos). In 1969, Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum (now jointly called The Henry Ford) were added to the National Register of Historic Places (#69000071); the historic district includes 97 buildings.

Daniel Guzmán y La Franja consiguieron su segunda victoria del Apertura 2012 al vencer 2-0 a los Tuzos del Pachuca en la jornada 11 del Apertura 2012.
Cuatro movimientos, dos de ellos por lesión, realizó "El Travieso" con respecto al juego ante los Pumas de la UNAM. Hugo Sánchez no contó con Nery Castillo esto por suspensión de la directiva.
Palabras sobran para hablar de los primeros 35 minutos, sin embargo al 36 el marcador se abrió a favor de los locales. Isaac Romo recibió la pelota, recortó a Néstor Vidrio, Humberto Cota se pasó en ese mismo instante y el delantero poblano disparó, al arquero no le dio tiempo de regresar por lo que el balón se fue rodando al fondo de las redes.
A pesar del uno por cero, el juego no cambió de tónica, solamente en el agregado, Puebla agarró mal parado a los Tuzos, sin embargo el mismo Romo la puso por un lado.
Para el complemento, Hugo Sánchez realizó una doble sustitución que ayudaron a que Pachuca tocara 3 veces el marco rival, sin embargo en todas el cancerbero camotero atajó, inclusive "El Macho" agotó sus movimientos y no encontraba solución.
Daniel Guzmán poco a poco hizo sus cambios, sacándole aprovecho al de Gustavo Matías Alustiza, quien al 89 de tiempo corrido se encontró un rebote, se enfiló al área y de pierna izquierda metió el fierrazo para decretar el dos por cero.
Después de 4 fechas de su último triunfo, La Franja vuelve a sumar de a 3 unidades para llegar a 9 unidades. Los de la Bella Airosa se quedaron en 13 unidades.
En la jornada 12, Puebla se mete al Volcán de Tigres. Pachuca recibe en el Hidalgo a los Esmeraldas de León. La cifra de asistentes al Estadio Cuauhtémoc fue de 7352.

Hoy acabo esta serie del parque de la naturaleza de Cabárceno. Y lo hago con una secuencia en tres fases de la bocaza de este bellezón. Se trata de un hipopótamo enano. Este es un macho, y como veis es tan guapo como yo. Tiene cara de simpático, eso si, cuando abre esa bocaza impone, vaya si impone.
Volveré a Cabárceno, y espero conseguir más fotos como las de esta serie que me han divertido mucho.
Ahora comienza el fin de semana y se abren nuevas oportunidades fotográficas. A saber que traeré el Lunes........

3. Los 5 Sentidos
Vista .- Los ojos del Goldfish operan de manera muy similar a los del ser humano, con la excepción de que no tienen párpados y de que el iris funciona de manera más lenta. Asimismo enfocan la vista a corta distancia y son capaces de distinguir los colores. Y dado que sus ojos están localizados en los costados de la cabeza, su visión es monocular, al contrario de la visión binocular en el hombre.
Tacto .- El Goldfish posee una línea punteada a lo largo del costado, a la altura de los ojos. A esta línea se le conoce como línea lateral y tiene una función muy importante. Estos puntos son nervios termo sensoriales conectados al cerebro del pez, capaces de reconocer las vibraciones a su alrededor. Lo mismo sucede cuando de alguna forma se ejerce presión sobre ellos, por más leve que esta sea.
Gusto .- La mayoría de las papilas gustativas están localizadas en los "labios" del pez y en toda la boca; ya que no posee lengua. También tienen papilas gustativas en la parte exterior de los labios, lo cual es una ventaja cuando busca pareja y alimento.
Auditivo .- Este sentido es vital para la supervivencia. El Goldfish no tiene oídos exteriores, su oído esta dentro de la cavidad craneal. Las vibraciones de sonido atraviesan el agua, el cuerpo del pez y resuenan finalmente en el oído interno.
Olfato .- El Goldfish cuenta con pequeñísimos orificios nasales. Pero a diferencia de los humanos ellos no pueden respirar a través de ellos. El sentido del olfato esta muy desarrollado en el Goldfish, y es muy importante en la búsqueda de pareja y de alimento.
4. Tipo de Ojos
Normal .- Iguales a los de su antecesor la carpa. No se proyectan hacia afuera.
Telescopio .- Son grandes protuberancias. La pupila se encuentra protegida por una cubierta transparente.
Celestial .- Los ojos se proyectan hacia afuera, con las pupilas viendo hacia arriba.
Ojos de Burbuja .- Tienen un saco de líquido debajo de cada ojo.
5. Tipo de Cabezas
Plana .- Es pequeña, suave y lisa. No tiene crecimiento alguno en la cabeza. Las hay angostas y anchas.
Oranda .- Cuenta con un crecimiento en la parte superior de la cabeza al cual se le conoce como capuchón o corona. El Oranda Cabeza de Ganso (Goosehead) es la variedad de Oranda con un crecimiento en la cabeza MUCHO MÁS desarrollado que el visto en la imagen de la izquierda.
Oranda Cabeza de León .- En inglés se le conoce como Cabeza de tigre (Tiger head). Es similar a la cabeza del Oranda con la diferencia de que el crecimiento es más abundante y cubre el opérculo del pez. Debe de contar con aleta dorsal.
Cabeza de León .- Similar a la anterior, el crecimiento en la cabeza es abundante y cubre el opérculo del pez. Los peces no cuentan con aleta dorsal.
Pompón .- Presenta en la parte superior de la cabeza dos pompones. El pompon es un crecimiento nasal, el cual esta compuesto de "piel" que crece en dobleces. El tamaño de los pompones varía de un pez a otro.
6. Tipo de Escamas
Normal .- Las escamas son planas y normales en su apariencia. La mayoría de las variedades de goldfish tienen este tipo de escama.
Escama de Perla .- Son semi-esféricas y se proyectan hacia afuera. Son más duras que las escamas normales y si llegan a caerse, creceran de nueva cuenta pero con una apariencia plana.
Transparente .- Las escamas no cuentan con células de pigmentación ni con cristales reflejantes. En algunos casos es posible percibir los órganos del pez.
Metálica .- Tienen una apariencia muy brillosa. Los peces con este tipo de escamas son raros y muy apreciados, sobre todo en la coloración calica.
7. Tipo de Opérculos
Normal .- Casi todas las variedades de goldfish cuentan con este tubérculo.
Olanes .- Es muy raro y ha sido desarrollado a raíz de una mutación. Es una de las más recientes variedades de goldfish y no se encuentra disponible al público en general.
Transparente .- La piel no cuenta con células de pigmentación ni con cristales reflejantes, dandole la apariencia de la fotografía.
Inverso .- Es una de las más recientes variedades chinas y surgió a raiz de una mutación. El borde del Opérculo tiene un dobles, dejando las branquias a la vista.
8. Tipo de Aletas Caudales
Larga .- Es doble, con una caída natural y abarca 2/3 partes del largo total del pez. Esta aleta caudal es propia de la variedad Cola de Velo.
Sencilla .- Pertenece a las variedades de goldfish no ornamentales y es propia del Goldfish Común y el Shubunkin.
Bifurcada .- Es doble y tiene forma de "V" muy marcada. Es típica del Cometa.
Mariposa .- Es doble, mediana y con dos grandes lóbulos en cada lado. Vista desde atrás tiene la forma de una mariposa. Es la cola más común en los Telescopios.
Abanico .- Es doble, corta y con forma de abanico. En inglés se le conoce como fantail.
Phoenix .- Es doble, larga y grande. Es propia de una variedad de goldfish con forma de huevo de nombre Phoenix.
Pavo Real .- Es doble y en inglés se le conoce como peacock tail. La razón es que esta levantada y extendida, como la cola de un pavoreal. Únicamente la variedad de goldfish Jikin tiene este tipo de cola.
Olan .- Es doble pero únida, con tres lóbulos, dos de ellos se doblan hacia atrás. Únicamente la variedad de goldfish Tosakin tiene este tipo de cola.
9. Coloraciones Disponibles
La coloración del goldfish depende de una gran variedad de circunstancias. La composición del agua, temperatura, dieta y genética suelen afectar las células pigmentarias, de las cuales existen dos tipos: melanoforas y xantoforas. Los goldfish de tonos rojizos exhiben una abundante cantidad de células xantoforas y una ausencia de las melanoforas; mientras que los goldfish de tonos azules y negros, tal como el telescopio moro, tienen una abundancia de melanoforas y una ausencia de xantoforas.
Respecto a las coloraciones disponibles, se encuentran goldfish en muy diversos colores: blanco, rojo, anaranjado, amarillo, azul, café, negro, verde, calíco y bicolor (blanco con rojo, negro con amarillo, etc).
Mate .- Un pez con coloración mate carece completamente de guanina. La falta de tejido reflector le da una apariencia sin brillo/opaco sobre la cabeza y el cuerpo. Son usualmente de color rosa y no tienen iris en los ojos, el ojo es completamente negro.
Calico .- Coloración que consiste en un fondo blanco, con manchas y puntos de dos colores o más: rojo, negro, mate, etc.
Bicolor .- Presenta la combinación de dos colores. Siendo el blanco/rojo la más difundida.
Monocromático .- Presenta un solo color. Es la coloración más popular.
