I had a different angle in mind for this shot. I wanted it to be a shot of my back from below the waist down but that didn't really look so great. I also wanted the skirt to look like a pencil skirt and it didn't but I like it!

The Seattle Flickr Meetup Group had a garage shoot. Some of the models that night were belly dancers. This is Joanne and she was such a positive uplifting person, we talked at length about how special dance is to her and how it makes for a better life.

The rollers and chain in the previous photo are in use here. Ghost, the red and white boat of 'last boat to be slipped' fame is in a cradle which is positioned several metres away from the tracks. Ghost is now being moved sideways with the "come-along" (ratchet chain hoist) until the wheel of the cradle meets the track rail. I am sure someone else can explain this better! I had great fun making Ghost move :-)) and here she is after being moved onto the rails ready for slipping.

Taken with the NHVP group Competition #55 The Midday Sun in mind. Unfortunately I forgot that photos entered into this comp must be taken in the Hunter Valley catchment area. This photo isn’t eligible as it was taken in Sydney.
I stumbled onto this park as I was killing a bit of time before picking up my wife and daughter from Sydney airport. With about half an hour to spare as I got near the airport I took a turn into the local suburbs and kept an eye open for somewhere to stop for a break – preferably a bit of space away from the traffic where I could stretch my legs after a 3 hour drive. If you have a look at the map, you’ll see there aren’t a lot of choices in this part of the world. After randomly winding my way through the backstreets I spotted some parkland that looked like it might be a good place for a stroll. As I looked over the outer fence at this oval the white picket fence all the way around the playing surface caught my eye. I saw 2 groundsmen who had just finished preparing the playing surface and asked them if it would be ok for me to go inside for some photos.
I chatted to them for a while and they told me they'd been working on it all day. They were quite happy for me to take photos after I told them what a good job they'd done and how neat and tidy it looked. The white picket fence had been recently painted and with a few white clouds floating across the blue sky casting shadows onto the green grass I thought it looked very picturesque. As the boys packed up and headed off for a beer I had about 20 minutes to wander around and enjoy this little piece of open space amongst the madness of the car-filled city streets.

The Electricity Museum (in Portuguese Museu da Electricidade) is a cultural centre that presents the evolution of Energy with a Museum of Science and Industrial Archaeology concept, where themed and experimental exhibits live side by side with a great variety of cultural events. TransFormation was created in 2007 with the goal of offering an annual intensive workshop for professional dancers. Throughout the last 11 years, TransFormation has become a landmark in the Montreal dance scene as a highly anticipated and indispensable event. Cherished by artists for its intensive format, TransFormation contributes to focusing on precise objectives over the span of a couple of weeks. It is also a rare occasion to meet, exchange and network with other artists from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and throughout the world, who all share the same passion.

TransFormation is a contemporary dance intensive for professional dancers, choreographers, professional teachers and emerging artists. A variety of technique classes, workshops and creation laboratories are offered on an à la carte basis encouraging the artists themselves to choose a programming which would best fit their pursuit of their unique artistic development.
Dancers develop their own distinct way of working, bringing a singularity and their own particular colour to the creations they take part in. Consequently, the contemporary dancer must not only explore new techniques but also new “states of body”. Transformation is a place that offers the opportunity to acquire and incorporate new tools, to improve critical sense and refine one’s personal aesthetic choices.
TransFormation brings together dancers from different horizons and with different views and interests. Together these factors make for a very unique and enriching experience. Every year dancers leave with an appreciation for the fluidity of interpersonal relations between the dancers, choreographers and faculty as well as the intense concentration of the workshop and the atmosphere of artistic freedom that is felt in the different studios during TransFormation.
The program reflects the dancer’s commentaries, views and interests in the new paths of contemporary creation along with the human and artistic experience of its director Lisa Davies and its founders Catherine Viau and David Pressault. The choice of faculty is based on a desire to offer a space of real transformation.

The village of G·sadalur and the island of Mykines in the background. Until a tunnel was built in 2004, the 16 residents living in G·sadalur had to take a strenuous hike or horseback over the steep 400-meter mountain in order to make it to the other villages. It was a rare sunny day in the Faroe Islands and I had to wait until the clouds rolled in to provide some softer light. I decided to go with a long exposure (1 minute 10 seconds) to illustrate the force of the wind and a serene sea among the isolated islands. (Photo and caption by Ken Bower)

Se ha publicado en la página del Distrito Único Andaluz las propuestas de exámenes de cada una de las materias que integran las Pruebas de Acceso del curso 2013-2014, como se puede comprobar en el siguiente enlace:

Respecto a la Historia del Arte, en un primer momento aparecieron sólo tres propuestas (los exámenes de Junio y Septiembre y una prueba denominada «Examen de Andalucía». Posteriormente se añadieron otras dos pruebas denominadas «Reserva A» y «Reserva B». En total, cinco propuestas.
No obstante, en la normativa universitaria para el curso 2013-2014 se señala que el número de pruebas preparadas debe ascender a seis, con sus correspondientes opciones A y B, como se viene realizando desde tiempo inmemorial. El responsable de la Ponencia de Historia del Arte de la Universidad de Sevilla, Don Jesús Palomero Páramo. Nos aseguró que, efectivamente, la mencionada Ponencia preparó la preceptiva media docena de exámenes. El problema se encuentra en que los responsables de la publicación se han dejado una en el tintero.
La deficiente publicación de los exámenes (esto es, por entregas y de forma incompleta) también ha caracterizado al resto (o cuando menos a la mayor parte) del resto de las asignaturas de la selectividad andaluza, que se dice pronto. Por lo demás, en los exámenes de reserva no se ha indicado cuáles son los de la convocatoria de Junio y cuáles los de la convocatoria de Septiembre, como sí se hizo en la publicación de las propuestas del año anterior. Cuando menos se han identificado los exámenes de Junio y de Septiembre, práctica que se inició en el mencionado curso 2012-2013.
Ignoramos si alguno de estos exámenes de reserva llegó (o llegaron) a emplearse. En Junio, en el tribunal de Écija, nadie dejó la historia del arte para el final y en Septiembre, en Sevilla, no se nos informó a los profesores asistentes sobre cuáles exámenes de coincidencia se convocaban. Decididamente, la gestión de exámenes del curso 2013-2014 deja mucho que desear.
Las pruebas siguen el modelo de examen iniciado en el curso anterior: Arte Prehistórico, Arte Antiguo y Arte Medieval para la opción «A» y Arte Moderno y Arte Contemporáneo para la opción «B». Como se suponía, los comentarios y las preguntas no se concentran en unos estilos determinados, sino que ofrecen un panorama de cada una de los bloques de temario.
Así, a estructura más lógica que cabría encontrar en la opción «A» sería la siguiente:
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Prehistórico o de Arte Egipcio.
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Clásico (Griego y Romano).
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Paleocristiano-Bizantino o de Arte Hispano-Musulmán.
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Románico o de Arte Gótico.
Y para la opción «B» el reparto más razonable sería éste:
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Renacentista.
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Barroco.
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Neoclásico y Goya.
- Una pregunta o una imagen de Arte Contemporáneo (Arte del siglo XIX y Arte del siglo XX).
Se comprueba que en esta tanda de exámenes no se han seguido estas previsiones. La opción «A» concentra sus enunciados en el arte clásico y en el arte medieval cristiano y la opción «B» prescinde del Neoclásico y Goya.
Otro rasgo distintivo de esta convocatoria es la falta de novedades: todas las preguntas e imágenes han aparecido con anterioridad, circunstancia que parece lógica, no sólo ante la avalancha de exámenes precedentes, sino también, porque carece de justificación innovar cuando la selectividad se encamina hacia su final.
Como en otras convocatorias se encuentran preguntas que se repiten en dos pruebas, en concreto la escultura romana, la arquitectura nazarí, la escultura barroca italiana y la pintura romántica. Esta última cuestión apareció en el examen de junio y en el de septiembre. A mí, estas reiteraciones me resultan muy enojosas y no creo que beneficien a nadie. Por lo pronto, alguien que se haya presentado a los dos convocatorias, y ha optado por la opción «B», ha tenido que enfrentarse en ambas ocasiones a la misma pregunta. Añadamos que el alumnado de Septiembre no se presenta en las mismas condiciones que el de Junio (suele contar con mucho menos tiempo para prepararse los exámenes) y sí se le puede prestar la mínima ayuda consistente en que deseche lo aparecido en Junio, pues mejor. Por último las seis propuestas deben abordar todo el temario, pues al concentrarse en el más de lo mismo, hace pensar que existen contenidos importantes y otros de puro relleno.
La opción «B» del examen de Junio resulta prácticamente intacta a la opción homónima de uno de los exámenes de reserva del curso pasado. Por lo demás, no encontramos ninguna otras semejanza que autorice la tesis que asegura que los exámenes no escogidos de una convocatoria son reutilizados por la siguiente.
Antes de pasar a reproducir y comentar cada una de las propuestas, señalar tres rasgos que caracterizan a este juego de pruebas y que suponen pronunciadas rupturas respecto a los contenidos de las convocatorias que le precedieron
- La relevancia que en este juego de exámenes alcanza el arte bizantino, pues aparece en dos de las tres propuestas. Esta abundancia resulta sorprendente por partida doble, pues el arte del Imperio de Oriente no había sido escogido en las Pruebas de la Selectividad Andaluza desde el curso 2009-2010.
- La importancia concedida en la opción «B» al siglo XIX, especialmente a la pintura del Romanticismo. De hecho, ésta dobla sus apariciones en la selectividad andaluza. Añadamos que se culmina una tendencia iniciada en el juego de exámenes del curso 2010-2011. Hasta entonces alumnos y profesores consideraban que estos contenidos nunca aparecerían en los exámenes, ya fuera como pregunta o como imagen a comentar. Bueno será recordar, una vez más, la reunión de profesores de la materia de 2012 en la que alguien preguntó a Jesús Palomero Páramo si es que la reproducción de La Libertad guiando al pueblo anunciaba que esta parte del siglo XIX se incorporaba al repertorio de los «elegibles». La respuesta del ponente no pudo ser más ajustada: «Salvo el mudéjar y el ibérico puede entrar cualquier cosa.»
- La ausencia del arte prehistórico en las propuestas publicadas. De nuevo asistimos al eclipse (o colapso) de una tendencia, pues la pintura rupestre venía adquiriendo una presencia cada vez más relevante. Tal vez este arte apareciera en la propuesta inédita. Señalemos que en el juego de exámenes del curso 2012-2013 llegó a ser escogido en dos de las pruebas,
- Algo similar se puede decir del arte egipcio: de una presencia abundante en pruebas anteriores sólo aparece en una de las propuestas de este curso y como imagen a comentar.
- La falta de Moisés de Miguel Ángel, obra habitual (casi obligada) en la selectividad andaluza desde el 2008. Señalemos que todo el mundo ignora a qué se debe esta preferencia. En el juego de propuestas del año pasado no se incluyó en ninguno de los dos exámenes, pero fue escogido en dos pruebas de reserva.

La obra que hemos escogido como cabecera es una acuarela sobre papel del pintor francés Ferdinand-Victor-Eugène Delacroix que lleva por título Caballo asustado por una tormenta (Cheval effrayé par un orage). Sus medidas son 23,6 x 32 centímetros. La fecha de realización es 1824.
La pintura se encuentra en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Budapest (Szépművészeti Múzeum). Ingresó en 1934 junto a otras muchas obras de la colección de Pál Majovszky.

www.stvincent.edu | On Oct. 17, the Ann Kinzer Clark, M.D., Memorial Lecture Series and the Saint Vincent College Threshold Series welcomed Dr. Cornel West, professor of the practice of public philosophy at Harvard University and noted philosopher, social critic and author, to the Robert S. Carey Student Center’s Performing Arts Center, where he delivered a presentation entitled “The Arts as Prophetic Witness in Times of Suffering and Despair” to a capacity crowd.
West, who also holds the title of professor emeritus at Princeton University, was welcomed to the stage by longtime friend and Latrobe native Dr. Andrew G. Clark, director of choral activities and senior lecturer of music at Harvard University and the son of the late Dr. Ann Kinzer Clark, for whom the memorial lecture series was established.

Admira holt Punkt in Hütteldorf! Die Torsperre des SK Rapid ist am Samstagabend, 12. April 2014 nicht durchbrochen worden. Die Admira konnte gegen Rapid kein Tor erzielen, jedoch einen Punkt mit nach Hause in die Südtstadt entführen.
Ziel von Rapid ist der Vizemeistertitel, den bisher letzten Gegentreffer kassierte Rapid-Torhüter Jan Novota vor 612 Minuten. Damit übertraf der Slowake den bisherigen Clubrekord von Herbert Feurer in der Bundesliga. Dessen Torsperre in der Saison 1982/83 hatte 527 Minuten gedauert.
Der Admira fehlten zahlreiche Stammkräfte, Rapid musste nur auf den gesperrten Guido Burgstaller verzichten. Trainer Zoran Barisic ließ mit Thanos Petsos und Terrence Boyd zwei prominente Namen auf der Bank, als Mittelstürmer agierte Deni Alar. Petsos ersetzte aber noch vor der Pause den mit Leistenproblemen ausgeschiedenen Christopher Dibon, Brian Behrendt rückte an seiner Stelle aus dem Mittelfeld in die Innenverteidigung.
Rapid war von Beginn an gefährlicher. Alar brachte den Ball nach einem Ausflug von Admira-Torhüter Manuel Kuttin bei einem Freistoß von Steffen Hofmann bereits nach 35 Sekunden aufs Tor. Der Ex-Rapidler Markus Katzer klärte aber auf der Linie. Youngster Louis Schaub nebelte einen Stanglpass von Marcel Sabitzer aus kurzer Distanz über das Tor (17.), traf zudem einmal das Außennetz (37.).
Alar prüfte Kuttin mit einem Flachschuss (28.). Kopfbälle von Verteidiger Mario Sonnleitner nach Corner (31.) bzw. Flanke (52.) von Hofmann verfehlten ihr Ziel jeweils nur knapp. Von der Admira war offensiv lange sehr wenig zu sehen. Die Niederösterreicher kamen erst im Finish auf, dann benötigte Rapid aber auch Glück: Ein Freistoß von Daniel Toth ging an die Stange (76.). Als Thorsten Schick alleine auf ihn zulief, rettete Novota (82.).
Einen letzten Rapid-Kopfball von Alar parierte Kuttin (90.). Nach zuletzt fünf Zu-Null-Siegen in Serie mussten sich die Hütteldorfer mit einer Punkteteilung zufriedengeben. Zu Hause hat der Tabellenzweite elf Partien hintereinander nicht verloren. Die Admira ist zwar zuletzt im Cup-Viertelfinale mit 0:1 an Sturm Graz gescheitert. In der Liga sind die Südstädter aber bereits vier Partien unbesiegt und weiter Achter.
