The great Corrie ten Boom, a devout Christian and a survivor of Ravensbrück concentration camp (her father and sister didn't survive German incarceration), is better known in the US than in the Netherlands, unfortunately.
Like the Anne Frank House, the Ten Boom House harboured persecuted Jews in WW II. The Anne Frank House attracts almost a million paying visitors a year. It would be surprising to me if the Corrie ten Boom House, the admittance of which is free, attracts more than 100.000.
It is extremely moving. Please, pay it a visit, or read one of Corrie ten Boom's books like The Hiding Place.

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. 鹽水蜂炮是台灣元宵節時著名的地方民俗活動，地點在台南鹽水區，所謂蜂炮是指許多沖天炮組成的大型發炮台，點燃時萬炮齊發，有如蜂群傾巢而出，故稱「蜂炮」。
The festival starts a day before the Lantern Festival, when the God through the city in his sedans, by a discharge of fireworks and bottle rockets accompanied. Wherever God ‘s sedans go, the inhabitants of the city light firecrackers, fireworks, beehives and sparklers all rose strongly in the sky with thunderous sounds, nice smoke and lighting the night sky in a magnificent feast. The city streets are so dense with firecracker paper scarps covered the surface of the asphalt road.
Over millions of fireworks are firing of big hive in the crowd of revelers who wear helmets and heavy clothing. Each hive can contain a maximum of 60,000 fireworks. The noise, the lights, and the rituals that follow the God continue until the next morning.
Visitors from across the country and abroad are eager to witness the thrilling and exciting scenery seen on the night of the Yanshui Fireworks Festival.
Yanshui Wu Temple (Yanshui Beehive Rockets Festival)
The transmitter site of KSPN/710 AM, which was known in its glory years (1930 to 1997) as KMPC. It has in recent years been the West Coast flagship station for ESPN, with all-sports programming, including Los Angeles Lakers play-by-play.
It has long been 50,000 watts by day and 10,000 watts by night, and directional at night, using all three towers, to the south-southwest, across Los Angeles.
The facility sits on a large spread of land in the center of the San Fernando Valley (specifically, Valley Glen): land that is in the middle of suburbs and surely more valuable than the station itself at this point, as listening to the AM band is tanking.
This is surely why the owner, Disney, received a construction permit to move to the four-tower facility of KRDC/1110 in Irwindale, east of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley. There it will be 35,000 watts by day and 2,500 watts by night: a smaller signal (especially at night) from a lesser location.
After that happens, this land will be sold, and the towers will come down. My bet, as I write this (the same day I shot it in April 2021), is that Disney will move KSPN's programming to the much bigger signal on 1110 AM (50,000 watts by day and 20,000 watts by night), and put something else on the new smaller signal on 710 AM.
So I shot these because I wanted to make sure the facility was honored photographically before it was gone.

This is one of my favorite scarves. It is beautiful and comfortable.
This scarf was made with two strands of soft yarn held together while stitching, which makes the scarf thick without any stiffness.
This color and style is unisex. The classic crochet stitch gives this scarf a beautiful style for men or women. It looked great on my husband who graciously gives me feedback on wearability, style and comfort of my scarves.

The project limits mysteriously end before reaching either of the highway on-ramps that contribute to the congestion at this intersection. From the words of one Grid Chicago reader, an engineer: "They are applying a set of standards to a problem, instead of applying a solution".
The much despised Damen-Elston-Fullerton intersection is being redesigned by the Chicago Department of Transportation. They hosted an open house in April 2011 at the Bucktown Wicker Park library which I wrote about extensively on Steven Can Plan. I and others who attended were not satisfied with how the new design affected people who will bike through here. I published my comments in my article, left a brief comment with the stenographer at the open house, and emailed the project manager my extended comments. I asked Steven Can Plan readers to do the same. A few of them did!

Midnight sun in Kiruna, Sweden.The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon occurring in summer months at latitudes north and nearby to the south of the Arctic Circle, and south and nearby to the north of the Antarctic Circle where the sun remains visible at the local midnight. Given fair weather, the sun is visible for a continuous 24 hours, mostly north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle. The number of days per year with potential midnight sun increases the farther poleward one goes.
There are no permanent human settlements south of the Antarctic Circle, so the countries and territories whose populations experience it are limited to the ones crossed by the Arctic Circle, e.g.. Canada, United States of America (Alaska), Denmark (Greenland), Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and extremities of Iceland. A quarter of Finland's territory lies north of the Arctic Circle and at the country's northernmost point the sun does not set for 73 days during summer. In Svalbard, Norway, the northernmost inhabited region of Europe, there is no sunset from approximately 19 April to 23 August. The extreme sites are the poles where the sun can be continuously visible for a half year.
The opposite phenomenon, polar night, occurs in winter when the sun stays below the horizon throughout the day.
Since the Earth's axis is tilted with respect to the ecliptic by approximately 23 degrees 27 minutes, the sun does not set at high latitudes in (local) summer. The duration of the midnight sun increases from one day during the summer solstice at the polar circle to approximately six months at the poles. At extreme latitudes, it is usually referred to as polar day. The length of the time the sun is above the horizon varies from 20 hours at the Arctic Circle and Antarctic Circle to 186 days at the poles.
At the poles themselves, the sun only rises once and sets once, each year. During the six months when the sun is above the horizon at the poles, the sun spends the days constantly moving around the horizon, reaching its highest circuit of the sky at the summer solstice.
Due to refraction, the midnight sun may be experienced at latitudes slightly below the polar circle, though not exceeding one degree (depending on local conditions). For example, it is possible to experience the midnight sun in Iceland, even though most of it (Grímsey being a notable exception) is slightly south of the Arctic Circle. Even the northern extremities of Scotland (and those places on similar latitudes) experience a permanent "dusk" or glare in the northern skies at these times

Two Museums in Venice - Gallerie dell'Accademia & Collezione Peggy Guggenheim
In 2000, when I visited Rome and Florence, I made a seemingly silly day trip from Florence to Venice, specifically to visit Gallerie dell'Accademia in order to see two of my favorite paintings there - the intimate and enigmatic Tempest by Giorgione and Paolo Veronese's immense and celebratory The Feast in the House of Levi, along with others. The trip to Venice was quite rushed but the visit to the museum and admiring those paintings below were truly gratifying.
In October 2012, Venice was one of my major stop of my Austrian and Italian trip, thus afforded me more time to visit Gallerie dell'Accademia and I was looking forward to re-exam those two favorites. However, it didn't happen as planned -- a huge scaffolding largely blocked out The Feast in the House of Levi! My consolation was that I did see it twelve years before and that proved the motto of "Seize the day".
I was able to see Giorgione's Tempest, along with his La Vecchia (below), a portrait of startlingly modern sensitivity.

Notre-Dame-de-Clignancourt est une église catholique parisienne située face à la mairie du XVIIIe arrondissement. Son nom vient de Clignancourt, un village absorbé par la ville de Paris.
Les habitants du quartier de Clignancourt, devenus, au milieu du XIXe siècle de plus en plus nombreux, étaient titulaires de Saint-Pierre de Montmartre, leur église paroissiale, dont l'accès était assez pénible puisque situé au sommet de la butte Montmartre.
Aussi leur construisit-on sur la place Sainte Euphrasie (aujourd'hui place Jules Joffrin), l'église Notre-Dame-de-Clignancourt dont la première pierre bénie par le cardinal Morlot, archevêque de Paris, fut posée par le baron Haussmann le 2 mai 1859. Le maire de Montmartre était alors le baron Michel de Trétaigne (qui légua son nom à la rue de Trétaigne, non loin de la mairie) et ses adjoints, Achille Labat et Lecuyer. Cette église, construite par Lequeux, fut inaugurée le 29 octobre 1863. Sa longueur est de 99 mètres et sa largeur de 20 mètres dans la nef et 33 au transept. Sa hauteur sous clef est de 14,80 mètres. La chapelle de la Vierge forme comme un édifice à part auquel, étant donné la pente, on monte par des escaliers situés sur les côtés du chevet. Les peintures sont de Romain Cazes et les fresques d'Émile Laffon.
Dotée par l'impératrice Eugénie, épouse de Napoléon III, en mobilier et objets de culte, l'église fut pillée pendant la Commune en 1870.
En face, sur la place Jules Joffrin, la mairie du XVIII° arrondissement remplace celle qui était antérieurement située place des Abbesses. Œuvre de Varoclier, de style Renaissance, sa première pierre a été posée le même jour que celle du pont Caulaincourt, le 16 décembre 1888 ; elle a été inaugurée le 17 juillet 1892.

1627 Ermita de San Baudelio de Berlanga (Soria) España
La ermita mozárabe de San Baudelio de Berlanga, Casillas de Berlanga, Soria es un monumento de gran interés tanto por su arquitectura como por sus pinturas románicas, de una singularidad excepcional.
Casi un milenio después de su construcción y pese a que parte de sus interesantísimas pinturas murales fueron vendidas a un marchante en 1922, y arrancadas de los muros tres años después, se la sigue conociendo hoy día como la "Capilla Sixtina del arte mozárabe". Las pinturas murales retiradas —para algunos, expoliadas— se conservan actualmente en diversos museos estadounidenses, y en el madrileño de El Prado.
La ermita está ubicada en Casillas de Berlanga (actualmente pedanía adscrita al Ayuntamiento de Caltojar), en el suroeste de la provincia de Soria, dentro de la comarca denominada Tierra de Berlanga. Se llega por la SO-152. Entre Casillas de Berlanga y Caltojar hay un desvío señalizado a la derecha por el que a menos de 1 km se encuentra la ermita.
La ermita fue construida a finales del siglo XI por artesanos, posiblemente mozárabes. El arabismo es evidente en la linterna y en la tribuna. Su situación en la tierra de nadie fronteriza entre cristianos y musulmanes puede justificar la mezcla de influencias. Las pinturas del interior, seguramente del siglo XII, tienen aún más difícil clasificación.
En el exterior del ábside se encuentra una necrópolis rupestre con más de una veintena de tumbas antropomorfas toscamente talladas. Están orientadas de este a oeste y estuvieron cubiertas por lajas. Su excavación inicial puede datarse alrededor del siglo X, si bien pudieron ser utilizadas sucesivamente, posiblemente hasta el siglo XVI.
La visita es muy recomendable, siendo asistida por personal del Museo Numantino que, además de ocuparse de la vigilancia del monumento, pueden facilitar interesantes explicaciones y documentación.
La construcción de la ermita se enmarca en la época de la consolidación definitiva de los reinos cristianos en toda esta zona, que tiene lugar hacia el año 1060, cuando tiene lugar la toma, por Fernando I, de Gormaz, Vadorrey, Aguilera, Berlanga y Bordecorex, que se encuentran camino de Medinaceli, que fue centro defensivo estratégico de la frontera musulmana desde el siglo X.
No se conoce nada cierto sobre su origen, si bien hay noticia documentada desde 1136 en que se trasladó la jurisdicción de la ermita y el monasterio a la diócesis de Sigüenza. Según la tradición, la gruta a la que se entra por la esquina sur del interior de la ermita, debió de servir en su día como habitáculo de algún eremita. En torno a esta gruta y al manantial que brota y que hace más habitable el paraje, se organizó a finales del siglo X un cenobio o monasterio que hipotéticamente debió quedar adscrito a la advocación de San Baudelio, mártir galorronamo del siglo IV, del que parece que circularon algunas reliquias, procedentes de Nimes, por diversos lugares de la geografía hispano visigoda, llegando finalmente a Toledo. Según parece, los antiguos discípulos de San Baudelio solían habitar en parajes apartados ubicados en las inmediaciones de fuentes de agua para evocar, de ese modo, el lugar donde San Baudelio había sido enterrado.
Las reliquias bien pudieron, con motivo de la invasión islámica, necesitar de un traslado desde Toledo a Asturias o Navarra, por lo que tal vez alguna de ellas pudo haber quedado depositada temporalmente en este lugar.
El culto eclesiástico estuvo suspendido durante mucho tiempo, siendo utilizada incluso como lugar para guardar rebaños de ovejas.
La ermita fue declarada Monumento Nacional, según real orden de 24 de agosto de 1917, publicada el la "Gaceta de Madrid" número 289 de 27 de agosto de ese mismo año y firmada por el Director General de Bellas Artes Sr. Andrade (Monumentos Nacionales Sorianos, Teógenes Ortego y Frías nº 1).
A pesar de lo anterior, la ermita que era propiedad a principios del siglo XX de varios vecinos de Casillas de Berlanga, varias de sus más importantes pinturas fueron vendidas a marchantes que los revendieron a varios museos estadounidenses. Una parte pudo ser recuperada a mediados del s. XX y hoy se exhibe en el Museo del Prado de Madrid. Por otro lado, la pésima conservación de la techumbre de la ermita causó en su tiempo un irreparable deterioro a buena parte de las pinturas del techo que quedaron.
La iglesia fue adquirida por la Fundación Lázaro Galdiano en 1949 y donada al Estado. Una larga y cuidadosa restauración, que requirió incluso el arrancamiento de las pinturas para su tratamiento experto en talleres especializados, ha permitido la recuperación del monumento para la posteridad. Hoy constituye un anexo del Museo Numantino de Soria.
La ermita está formada por dos cuerpos rectangulares, el más pequeño correspondiente al ábside y el mayor a la única nave principal de la iglesia. Los muros, realizados en mampostería apoyada sobre sillares, tienen aproximadamente un metro de ancho y son de una gran simplicidad. Se accede a la ermita por una pequeña puerta con arco de herradura y por una pequeña puerta que da acceso directo al coro de la tribuna.
La bóveda está formada por ocho arcos de herradura, apoyados sobre ménsulas en las paredes de la nave central, cuatro en los ángulos y cuatro en los muros, partiendo de una pilastra central muy robusta, como hojas de una palmera, elemento este muy influido por las formas arquitectónicas islámicas de Al-Ándalus. Sobre esta pilastra central se abre una pequeña e inaccesible cámara que hace las veces de linterna y está cubierta por una cupulilla de seis nervios cruzados.
Es esta linterna un elemento muy original, opinando algunos autores que pudiera tratarse de una especie de ostensorio de obra que custodiara en el pasado una reliquia, tal vez correspondiente precisamente a San Baudelio, o tal vez textos sagrados.
La techumbre es de teja pero hasta 1894 fue de piedra sillar.
