"April's full moon, also known as the pink moon, happens to be the closest of the year. The first full moon of spring, its name comes from native North American wildflowers that bloom in early springtime: Phlox subulata, known as "moss pink," according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

April's full moon has also been known as the "sprouting grass moon" or "egg moon," heralding other first signs of spring.

The moon itself won't look pink, but it may appear more golden as it rises above the horizon. That's due to an effect caused by our atmosphere, similar to how the sun can appear more red as it rises and sets, according to NASA." from CNN

Fighting with street lights this morning starting at 3.46am, these shots were handheld. I was blessed with lovely weather and able to stand outside for the first time since the lockdown in my shirtsleeves.

First shot from my new Chamonix 8x10. Shot on a monopod... closest thing to a handheld 8x10 :) Cropped the top from a 8x10 frame because the sky was really ugly. Exposure turned out exactly like I estimated... can't have both. Shot wide open at f/5.6, hoping there'd be more separation from background and this was also a reason for this framing.

The main problem shooting 8x10 handheld is in the focusing because it's so dim compared to my f/2.8 and f/4 lenses on the 4x5.

The cost of shooting 8x10 is also serious. But once shot, they're so easy to scan, unlike 4x5.

See it big for the details (20MB).

Notes: Cropped from the top only, everything else is untouched.

Yes, I know, that's dangerous. But how can I not take a picture while driving by such a beautiful scene. I took it with my iPhone while Maurice held the steering wheel. We drove off to Paris, as Bretagne was covered in such terrible rain spells. And it would not change the next few days.

You will see better pictures of the lunar eclipse but this isn't bad for a hand held 1 second exposure on a Canon G15 camera. It's amazing what you can do with ISO going up to the 1000s, x 20 digital zoom and dynamic image stabilization.

Yes, we did set the alarm for 2am then sit in the garden wrapped in duvets etc till 3.30am with only shortbreads and no Horlicks to keep us warm.

Handheld - stack of 10 images. Notice the tiny bug on the right!

Handheld at night just testing.

Test for handheld camera shake (more boring test shots). Here I used manual exposure, focus, flash. Lens: Contax G90. Shutter at 200. Camera handheld. Compared to monopod shot, the monopod gives a sharper picture and compensates for the shutter shock.

Hand-held shot of...something. I might have moved.

Moon from Kilang Mandiri Restaurent

Balikpapan

Friday came around pretty quick this week - that happens when you spend most of your time asleep and trying to ward off illness. I am feeling a bit better this morning. Thanks for the well wishes.

I went into work until noon yesterday - then left completely exhausted and ready for a nap. I'll give it another try today.

The weekend will probably be low-key out of necessity. I need to visit my Mom. Hopefully I'll feel well enough to take the drive up.

The shot is from late October, when the Monterey Ash trees in our neighborhood start to drop leaves. I can't resist picking them up and bringing them into the garage to set-up on the wash machine. I happened to have the *ist D with the 28mm 1.7 attached. Handheld, auto focus, with a small bit of Photoshopery.

Handheld 3 exposure HDR / Photomatix Pro, Topaz Adjust, and Photoshop processed.
