I found the free pattern at fantastic blog turkey feathers who is adding patterns for a state flowers quilt, here's the link; turkeyfeathers.typepad.com/turkey_feathers/2010/05/new-je...

I know that technically these are meant to be purple but I think that they look lovely in blue. The violet is the state flower of New Jersey.

I stitched this with french knots, satin stitch, stem stitch and back stitch.

little notepads - I made a few of these, really handy to have around the house. I know I'm forever rummaging around for scrap bits of paper!

Each individual piece of felt was hand-cut, then embroidered together by hand onto the felt backing.

Done for a bi-monthly exchange of mosaic ATCs on Facebook.

Reversible baby shoes made from reclaimed linen. Lovely bright and bold orange flowers.

This ornament is made from wool felt and hand embroidered. The three-prong pattern that is repeated represents the three-prong candle that Sophia learned about when studying Sweden and St. Lucia Day + Christmas holiday. Candles with three prongs are lit and they represent the three wise men.

There are 8-pointed embroidered snowflakes on each of the points. Sophia likes sequins and beads, so they are integrated into the design as well.

This little clutch or purse is a great one to take along on nature walks where little treasures can be placed inside...a smooth acorn, a beautiful fall leaf, a magical stone.

The purse has a tri-color yarn strap made from 100% cotton yarn. Using fall colors of yellow, orange, and red, it is the perfect length for a child to wear over her shoulder.

This 100% wool felt purple purse is embellished with a plant-dyed wool felt green leaf. It is the perfect size for a child who likes to collect small treasures on nature walks or likes to pretend she's "just like mama" who carries a purse.

The purse closes with a standard snap, making it easy for children and adults alike to use it.

It is hand-embroidered with tiny blanket-stitches (about 7-8 per inch), so it is sturdy and will hold the items placed in it. It is meant to be an heirloom piece that a child can pass along to her children.

The cover design is a sage-green leaf that has a chain-stitch design on and around it. There are tiny yellow dots made with embroidery floss around the leaf on the pumpkin-color orange felt.

The size of the purse is 4 1/2" wide by 3" high.

This ATC is the standard size of 2 1/2" x 3 1/2". It is made with 18 count Aida cloth and cotton embroidery floss.

This was made for the ATC Beginners March swap that focused on things handmade. Since I had never made a cross-stitch ATC before, I thought it would be a good challenge.

This card was sent on 2/28/09 to lilylemon.

I made this! If you are interested, please see my profile for more information.

As always, I make pi patches for pi day (as well as any other time during the year), but I have some in my shop at the moment, as well as the 'make your own pi patch' listing.

See profile for details.

Hand-embroidered, 2" square patches.

These are part of a set of 5 hand-embroidered felt birds. I've never used felt before (well, not since childhood anyway), but I like the humble quality of the material. Whilst working on them, I realised their style was a cross between European and African folk art, which is very much in line with my heritage. Each bird has a small mother-of-pearl button eye (except for the blue one which is tortoise shell) and a jute twine loop for hanging.

Nina went to preschool for the first time. It's a huge change for everybody, specially for her, and I wanted her to have something very special to go along with her, even when I'm not present. I decided to make her the backpack, even at the risk of not being able to compete with all those backpacks with tv cartoons out there (everyone who has 3 years old kids know what I mean). We both agreed that I would make her a very special backpack, and that she would have her favourite cartoons on other stuff, like her water bottle and lunch box. I got her involved on the design process, in order to catch her interest. Together, we decided it would have an hedgehog, that we both love, and she said she wanted it to be "under a tree's shadow". She chose pink (of course), and I took care of the rest, secretly. I imagined some kind of child's story scenario, in a forest full of flowers and nice animals, something that would give her some peace and fantasy. I played with colours and used a different shade for the side panel, and another for the zipper. For the lining, I used a cute fabric full of hearts ("look Nina, those are our hearts, from our family, who is always with you"). I hand stitched her name and then added this tiny detail, a wooden bird to help her pull the zipper. She loved it, and this mother's heart got a little lighter, knowing everything will be ok...

This ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) features a hand-beaded and embroidered red wool felt dress.

This orignally-designed card is made with 100% wool felt. The 16 beads are hand-sewn onto the dress and then a decorative trim is hand-embroidered around the neckline and hem of the dress.

Cotton floss is used to blanket-stitch the dress onto the card as well as the card together (there is a felt backing on the card).

This ACEO is a wonderful, sensory learning tool for children who love art. I am using another version of this card in an ABC/alphabet book for my daughter as she learns her alphabet and how to read.

ACEOs are the perfect size for little hands to play with and enjoy...especially those who love to experience art and learn through the sense of touch.

This ACEO is available in my shop. Please see my Flickr profile for the link to my shop.
