My father's hands

I made this quilt about 12 years ago from a picture in a magazine featuring Nancy Crow. I admire her. I knew then this was totally out of my league. I wanted the designs to be my own. So after this I started making my square quilts.

Detail of an Exakta VX... with a left handed advance lever... my theory is that the VX was made for Microscope work so when working with the camera upside-down so to speak on top of the microscope, using the waist-level finder, the lever is on the right again. Prove me wrong! 😊

also an interesting anecdote that an Exakta VX was used by James Stewart's character, a professional photographer, to spy on his possibly murderous neighbour in Alfred Hitchcock's movie "Rear Window".

Made by Ihagee Kamera Werke in Dresden, Germany

Founded in 1912 by Johan Steenbergen, a Dutchman, founded a camera company called Industrie- und Handelsgesellschaft in Dresden in 1912. The name was shortened to Ihagee (based on the German pronunciation of the acronym IHG, ee-hah-geh). In 1918, six woodworkers joined Steenbergen at what was known from then on as Ihagee Kamerawerk Steenbergen & Co.

La più bella corsa del mondo!

I was hunting for photos that contain the star: Judith Hand and realized I had never uploaded this photo from May, 2013.

In the frame are, of course, the Milky Way, Clouds Rest at left,

and Half Dome directly beneath the bushier tree in the lower right.

Judith Hand is my former sister-in-law and we had a star in Scorpio named after her via InternationalStarRegistry.com.

While it's not an official astronomic designation, the registry does allow one to assign names to otherwise unnamed stars.

I took the picture of my own hands by dangling my camera on the neck strap and putting it on the timer, holding my hands blindly in front of the lens. Not even sure if I would get them in the frame. Fortunately, the first one looked okay, because I took this just walking along the sidewalk and felt kind of awkward about taking this picture.
