I never hurt myself so when something happens involving stitches I like to milk it for all it's worth. This was just teeny, tiny, minor surgery to remove a small growth.
i'm hoping the subject of this photo makes up for the composition problems.
in the background is asama mountain. it's an active volcano located on the border of gunma and nagano prefectures. on a clear day (like monday) we can see it from ota. as i was taking sunset picture (which i am too often doing), i noticed that asama was as usual blowing off steam, and that there seemed to be some strange cloud activity around the mountain. (on cold days the bigger mountains around here seem to "grab" clouds and even create their own weather). as the sun set and the air grew colder, the cloud that asama had "grabbed" or created was suddenly (suddenly for a cloud anyway) flung high into the sky. this all happened over no more than 30 minutes. and to give a bit of perspective, the mountian itself is about a mile and a bit (just shy of 2 kilometers) high. as i watched, the cloud jumped about 3 miles up and swirled around to join the clouds above. what a show!
This was a beautiful project for a wonderful friend of mine. She wanted this God's hand or Hamsa hand as a pendant for a bracelet. Inside you can find Erin's "koru swirls". The herringbone weave around a perfect amazonite rondelle seems like an eye, and I put some czech crystals in a wonderful amethyst color. Hope you like it!

These mighty haymakers stand 60 feet high and weigh 30 tons, the largest bronze sculpture in the world. One would like to imagine that they are strong, American hands, but evangelist Oral Roberts outsourced their casting to Juarez, Mexico in 1980.
The hands were originally called "The Healing Hands" and they stood in front of Oral's "City of Faith," a medical center devoted to faith healing. But the City of Faith wound up on the short end of a series of lawsuits and declared bankruptcy in 1989. The hands were then moved to the entrance drive of the university. Also on the property is the Oral Roberts Prayer Tower.
The City of Faith is now known as CityPlex Towers, and it houses corporate tenants. Its central tower stands 640 feet tall, which reportedly is the same height as the Jesus who appeared to Oral in a dream and told him to build it.

Her hands are not as soft as a pad of rose leaves and not as pure as unpraised palms of angel. But her hands are strong...
An example of the lost art of hand painted truck lettering. As a boy, I sat enthralled with the skill of the local sign painter as I watched him hand letter my Dad's name, our home phone number and town in a cream colour with a black drop shadow on the doors of our red '54 Ford pickup truck.
As I walked across the Millennium Bridge from Tate Modern to St Pauls Cathedral, I looked down and was attracted to the people and their shadows. This particular couple appeared to be enjoying their day out as the walked hand in hand up the slope to access the bridge from the embankment.
