It was a very good visit to the local island library (tiny by most standards)...there are books to read for entertainment, to ponder, to be inspired by, and to learn. The blue thick book was a bonus. Our library has a section of books that have been removed from circulation which are free for the taking...or if one is inclined, a small donation to the library fund. I always look here and am seldom disappointed. Today I found the 'Selections' from the writings and speeches of William Randolph Hearst. He apparently had an opinion on most everything. But what I see is 765 heavy paper pages perfect to become a sketchbook of painting and drawings....a perfect repository of a body of work. Hands full of books! #cy365 74/365 'hands full'

Here are my 30 yards of hand spun yarn (about worsted weight) from roving dyed in Kool-aid. I like the effect dying the roving gives the yarn, compared to dying it with Kool-aid after spinning in this case. The colors are a bit softer, more muted. it was spun on my light little Louet spindle.
The murdered man said his name was Frank Howard, so how come the initials on his watch say "CM"? A mystery...
This scene in Fritz Lang's The Woman in the Window features Edward G Robinson and Joan Bennett, but this insert close-up was probably shot using hand doubles - a special breed of extra, more obscure even than the usual Unsung Joes I write about. You can read all about them over at the blog.
I love chubby little baby hands, and these hands worked so patiently today during Sunday school putting together this large floor puzzle.
He is only two, so he needed some help, but I couldn't believe how interested he remained.

I saw this game on Raining Rita's photostream and decided I couldn't be truly happy until I had a copy of my own. A quick tour of eBay turned up a dozen offers. I chose a complete set and popped for the shipping. It was a buy-it-now auction.
I have no regrets--the groovy graphics are so 1970s. I can't wait to put it together and play it soon!

This was shot right below a regular lamp. The light is sickly yellow, but thanks to a trick of taking an additional shot of a blank sheet of paper I was able to sample the color cast and apply a negating transform to this picture. I love this part of shooting in RAW.
Some items were recently donated to the Concrete Historical Museum in Concrete, Washington. I'm trying to find out if they have any value.
Fine baskets do have collectors, so I am hoping that I can get some input on the origin of this one and if it has collector interest. If it has value, I will return it to the woman that donated it so she can sell it.
my poor hubby has been complaining of dry, sore, cracked hands the last several days. they were so bad today he had to tape them up :( i decided to take a photo of his hands for this weeks theme. his hard working hands are a huge blessing to our family. because of him i get to stay home with our 4 children...i am so thankful for all he does for us!

This is for the people out there who don`t know how to wash their hands, a very important basic education that my parents provided me when i was a small child. Now depending on how fussy a person is about germs, using this chart which has handles on the faucet for turning the water on and off, if you turn the water on with this faucet with dirty hands,then clean them you`ll be turning the water off with your germs still on the faucet handles and clean hands thus putting those germs back onto your clean hands. Some people, (myself included especially before i`m about to eat) will use a paper towel to turn the faucet off. The newer faucets with sensors avoid handles all together. Now what about turning or pulling a door handle when leaving the bathroom? How dirty could THAT potentially be? Basically, i think these postered lessons of handwashing are a sad sign of the times reminding people how and when to wash their hands. Food poisoning, which i suffered from once is nothing to joke about though. Also, some good handwashes for me throughtout the course of a day has helped to dramatically cut back on colds and sniffles that usually affect me during the winter months.
