I got talking to this young couple on the torquay jetty today they were fishing for herring to use as bait to catch the big fish......here's the young lady doing her best to catch them herring.
Hervey bay/ˈhɑrvi ˈbeɪ/ is a city in Queensland, Australia. The city is situated approximately 290 kilometres (180 mi) or 3½ hours highway drive north of the state capital, Brisbane. It is a natural bay between the Queensland mainland and nearby Fraser Island. The local economy relies on tourism which is based primarily around whale watching in Platypus Bay to the North, access to Fraser Island, accessible recreational fishing and boating and the natural north facing, calm beaches with wide undeveloped foreshore zones.
At the 2011 Australian Census the city recorded a population of 76,403.[1] Hervey Bay is an area of high population growth...
Climate
Hervey Bay has a mild climate with an average 30 °C (86 °F) in summer and 22 °C (72 °F) in winter. The coast is predominantly affected by the south east trade winds throughout the summer with occasional strong northerly winds and storm swells. These winds keep the temperatures down in summer and up in winter, preventing temperature extremes. As a result, Hervey Bay rarely experiences temperatures over 35 °C (95 °F) in summer or under 5 °C (41 °F) in winter.
Cyclones are a threat at times with Cyclone Hamish threatening in 2009 as a Category 5. The land mass of Fraser Island significantly affects the pattern of weather in Hervey Bay and protects the immediate marine environment from open ocean storm effects. Cyclone Oswald in 2013 caused significant damage in the area, mainly as a result of tornadoes spawned by the system. The average rainfall for the year is around 1,100 millimetres (43 in). December to March is the main rainy period, with a secondary peak in May and June. The months of April and from July to November are generally dry and sunny.
Whale watching
Hervey Bay is the whale watching capital of Australia, with humpback whales migrating along the coast between April and October every year. Researchers at the Oceania Project conducted a 14 year study which found the bay was an important social hub for humpback whales.[15] Whale number have increased from about 2,000 in 1992, to around 7,000 in 2005.[15] Hervey Bay is the resting place for Humpback whales, Mum's and Calves, they come to the Bay to rest and build up energy for their long travels back to Antarctica. The Adults come to play, socialise and there have been heat runs observed in the Bay. The Humpback Whales are known to be very relaxed in the company of the whale watching vessels.

Malcolm the Molecule is a regular member of the Groovehoops ensemble, as well as a frequent guest at Miss Saturn's burlesque shows. He is a truly amazing performer, and he does things with a hula hoop that leave the rest of the community catching up. He's also a painter, and painting his face and body is a new line of fusion he's been thinking about lately.
He's one of the wandering performers tonight at a Red Bull celebration of art, dance, and culture. Their Ascension '06 party at the Brooklyn Sugar Factory in Williamsburg is a randomy night of discovery, art, good fun, and provocation in music, fashion, dance, underground culture, and just plain glorious oddness.
This is Ascension's first time in New York City. I first ran across Red Bull's rambling mysterious brand of party-time in Austin this year, when I became a great fan of the Red Bull Safe House. In fact, a couple of pieces from down there appear up here in Williamsburg.
Early in the evening there's a cheese-and-veggies spread for the kick-off party. I wander by with camera in hand; Malcolm obliges. I'm here shooting tonight with New York Cool.
Woo, got my Olympus OM-D E-M1 yesterday so time has been going with learning the ins and outs of the camera.
Compared to the old big 4/3 E-5 body the E-M1 is so much lighter! I don't have the additional battery grip yet but I like the handling of the E-5 better even with the heavier weight. The basic grip of the E-M1 is somewhat small and my right hand cannot support the body as well as with the E-5. Maybe it just needs getting used to it.
I've really liked the old Oly in-body image stabilization system. It helped in many places. The new feels even better: I can use even slower exposure times. For example this photo was taken hand-held + some additional support from the bridge at time of 1/4 sec. Not bad with 27@54mm focal length! with the old one I probably could've used something like 1/10 sec or faster...
Getting used to the EVF will take time but it's really good! Especially manual focusing will be so much easier with the help of focus peaking. Olympus has finally delivered what it promised the 4/3 is all about, small size and ease of use!
I've been using the big 12-60mm f2.8-4 for many years (bought it soon after they started selling those) and I really like that lens.
I don't have yet the 43->m43 adapter so I have to survice with the new 12-40mm f2.8 or use E-5 with the big lenses. Hope that'll change in the near future. The new 12-40 feels really robust lens. It's reach is not as long as the 12-60 but otherwise the compactness and constant aperture makes it amazing lens. Also I really like the new pull AF-ring to manual focus system.
So in short I'm now happy camera gear geek, let's hope this will improve my photography also =)
