To get from Nice to London, I opted to fly on British Airways. A decade earlier, I was a BA Gold Card member. I booked this NCE-LHR without much enthusiasm, aware that the cheeseparing regime of former CEO Alex Cruz had imposed draconian cuts to the airline’s standards of comfort and service. The Economy Class seat-pitch had been tightened to an unacceptable 29 inches (Ryanair offers better) and food was strictly buy-on-board. So I forked out $672 for a 1-way Club Class ticket for a 31-inch seat pitch and free scoff. This was the food offering - OK, but nothing to excite the palate. The service was OK, but ditto: BA cabin staff can be friendly or totally aloof and even perfunctory. The flight was punctual and I had no issues with checked-in luggage. I give it a 7/10 rating, but I won’t rushing back to BA anytime soon.

Getting so deep, might need a ladder to get out.

Morning sunbathers getting ready for their day in the sun.

Black, brown, & white cows get along just fine. To bad we humans have such a hard time of it.

We entered through the doorway into the room. I really have no idea what this is supposed to be in all honesty, as far as I can tell it does look like some kind of observation deck as I predicted. The back wall had stained windows just like the other areas of the building. The viewing window had clear glass for obvious reasons; all of which was shattered out. Dust was collected in piles just like anywhere else, that and broken glass. Some wiring and other bulk construction material was left lying around. I pull out my Geiger counter and started the same routine.

Phin - “And…it’s clean.”

Cristy - “Good.”

Cristy moves over to the far side of the room while I follow along. She leans her crowbar against the wall, pulls her backpack off her shoulders and plops it on the floor. I pull my respirator down before taking the one rifle off my back and leaning it by the window. Cristy dusts off her hands before pulling off her gas mask and dropping it onto her pack. She then grabs at her beanie and strips it off her head; finally giving me a full look at her hair. ‘Looked like it was just recovering from one of those pixie cuts I’d heard about, in all honestly though it looked pretty cute. She drops her beanie on her bag and starts ruffling her hair with both hands. I got caught staring again as she looks over to me, she runs her hands down from her head to the back of her neck.

Cristy - “What?”

Her voice wasn't as stern as the other day when she's asked that. I pull down my hood and jerked up.

Phin - “Op-, heh, sorry. Eh, ‘seems like I just can’t keep my eyes to myself.”

She gives a faint smile.

Cristy - “Well, I guess I'll take it as a compliment.”

She bends down, zips open her bag and starts pulling out the wood she’d salvaged.

Cristy - “Alright, let’s start getting a fire going. There's probably plenty of scraps of paper that are still around in here. Go find some, would you?"

Phin - “Sure thing.”

I sat my rifle down and we both got to work.

I’ve visited the Texas State Railroad many times and no matter how many times I visit it never gets old.

This is the "Get Pushed" challenge issued by syahrel azha hashim with the theme of "Lightbulb". I was given the freedom to shoot anything, but it had to include a lightbulb. Here's my take...

With the fresnel lens, this 1 kilowatt bulb produces a beam visible under favorable conditions up to 15 miles away. I really liked the glow from this angle. The shot in the comments, you can see that it has a completely different glow.

This lightbulb resides at the Point Piños Lighthouse located on the northern most tip of the Monterey Peninsula. This marks the entrance to Monterey Bay and a definite hazard to the Mariner. The stone lighthouse was put into service in February 1, 1855. Everything from the building, lenses and prisms are original. It is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the west coast and is listed on the national register of historic places.

I hate going somewhere where they just park sixty buses on an old airfield they charge a tenner and with no additional shelter everybody hopes it doesn't rain. But I don't mind paying to go into museums especially if it helps to preserve magnificent gems like this 1937 MCW bodied Daimler COG5 at Wythall and also if it means I get to ride on it too and other wonderful buses from the past. I have to confess as a bus enthusiast I'm just old enough to remember these at Birmingham. The trial batch of ten Leyland Atlanteans had just arrived marking a new era so this was 1961 but alas these and all other pre-war buses had all been withdrawn by then but a tiny few could still be found lurking in the depths of garages most notably Perry Barr when I sneaked it there and to my surprise I saw no less than ten as like this bus 1107 they had been retained as snow ploughs. With no heaters it is hard to imagine First or Arriva doing that today ordering drivers to come in at 4am to clear the roads, but of course these were old Corporation Buses buses and were owned by the City Council and why buy special lorries when reliable old buses would do. Mrs. Thatcher did away with much of the public owned sector as not being cost efficient and riddled with trade unionism. Okay it might have at times been a costly way to do things but at least it was done properly and people took a pride in being part of something and their work.

Such colorful birds, often taken for granted because we see them so often.

But look at this: an iridescent green head, yellow bill and orange feet, gray in the body and wings, accented with an intense blue speculum on the wing set off by bright white borders, a brown breast and a white tail with a black overlay that includes a curl. What an amazing compilation of parts!

I like the calm vibes the image spreads - taken in winter during a very cold evening.
