The drive along Route 12 from Torrey to Bryce presents magnificent views along the way. To enjoy the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument you need to drive one or more of the scenic drives through the Park.

The "Narrows" are upstream from the main Zion Canyon, where the walls squeeze to slot canyon dimensions: 1,500 feet tall and as narrow as 30 feet wide in places. In these spots, the water flows from wall to wall so hiking it involves a lot of wading through the Virgin River

Amidst a beautiful pine forest on the Wyoming side of the Black Hills, rises the mysterious Devils Tower, a 867 feet high monolith, a sacred place for native Americans. Devils Tower became in 1906 the first National Monument of the USA.

Located almost in the middle of the small park, the Balanced Rock Trail takes visitors on a short loop hike up to, and around, the Balanced Rock, an easily recognizable landmark of Arches National Park. Balanced Rock as exactly what its name implies: a large rock, balanced upon a narrower pedestal of stone beneath it. The trail has an elevation gain of less than 50 feet, and is short enough to make the trail fun for even the newest of outdoor enthusiasts. (From: www.utah.com/hike/balanced-rock-trail).

Fresh snow clings to the ledges along the South Rim near Yavapai–Mather, while a low cloud spills into the canyon and the buttes fade blue into the distance. Warm sandstone, cool snow, and endless layers—winter geology on display at Grand Canyon National Park.

Delicate arch in the arches National Park near Moab, Utah, glows a deep orange in the late afternoon sunlight.

It's a bit of a trek up here, especially with the temperature being 35 degrees Celsius as it was yesterday afternoon, but definitely worth the effort. I managed to lose my polarising filter (a well used and inexpensive piece of equipment) over the edge of the canyon when setting up for this shot.

Zabriskie Point is a part of the Amargosa Range located east of Death Valley in Death Valley National Park in California, United States, noted for its erosional landscape.

It is composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago—long before Death Valley came into existence.

Ellery Creek Big Hole is one of the most popular and picturesque camping, walking, swimming and picnic spots in the Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park. It is about 90 km west of Alice Springs. The spectacular waterhole is fed by the West MacDonnell Ranges (Tjoritja) and surrounded by high red cliffs and sandy Ellery Creek. Thousands of years of massive floods have carved out this waterhole, which is recognised as an internationally significant geological site. The Aboriginal name for Ellery Big Hole is Udepata. The permanent water made it a special meeting place for the Aranda people on the fish and honey ant dreaming trails.

A panoramic view across Zion National Park in Utah, where red sandstone cliffs rise against a clear desert sky. A lone pine tree and clusters of prickly pear cactus mark the foreground, leading the eye into the valley below and toward the rugged ridges beyond. Captured along the valley floor, this wide composition frames the contrasts of Zion’s landscape: desert plants, sheer cliffs, and the vast openness of the American Southwest.

Vikingbugt Inlet in Scoresby Sund, East Greenland has a great display of columnar basalt, formed when lava flows cool slowly and shrinks forming hexagonal cracks that can be dozens of feet long. There were some beautiful sweeping curves in this geological formation with the reddish colour of the rocks coming from iron.

The strange, lunar-like landscape of a small area in the state of Western Australia, about 2 hours north of Perth.

The view of Monument Valley from Mile Marker 13 on US Highway 163. The location has come to be called Forrest Gump Point by some, after the title character from the 1994 movie decided that he didn't want to run anymore as he passed by the location. I've gone for a 'widescreen' crop to give an idea of the scale of the place.

¿Existir o vivir?_

Pues eso, que preferís: vivir o existir?

July 2021

I've been sat on this since I shot it in September last year on Kinder Scout's northern edge, my favourite place in the whole of the Peak District. With the weather being equally as moody so far this July, I thought I'd publish it.

The day started out very sunny but bands of weather were forecast to sweep in from the north, which they did. These bands of weather brought with them some incredible dappled light and very dramatic looking skies.

The heather had well truly passed it's best in this part of High Peak, leaving the landscape in hues of coppery-brown, muted greens and pale yellows that provided a really Earthy palette complimenting the raw feeling that the elements had that day.

During our Rafting Smooth Waters trip on Colorado River we had an occasion of getting off the raft to see some natural rock art!!! This image is shot straight up the rock to show amazing history written in this rock. It almost looks like a shot of our Mother Earth from the above, doesn't it?

This Natural Arch can be found in Bryce Canyon in Southern Utah. I love the amazing red rock geological formations! If you haven't been here, it needs to be on your wish list!
