Today didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped, Joe and Ben have been . . . hard work. But we did manage to do some fun stuff.
It's Carnival Day in Weymouth today, basically an excuse for a good ol' fashioned piss-up. The misanthrope in me can't stand it so I always stay well away, but I did take the boys to watch the Red Arrows. Lydia phoned me from work at twenty to twelve to say that they were due on at midday so I had to make a mad dash to pick Ben up from nursery in time to see them!
Me and Joe watched some Tae Kwon Do on the Olympics (it was cool, I used to do Tae Kwon Do and got to green belt before I realised I was crap at fighting! Kinda lost interest after that), played out in the back garden, got the Monopoly board out but didn't actually play it and Joe helped me take this shot.
Me, Joe and Ben watched some Scooby Doo DVDs we got free in a cereal packet while we waited for Lydia to get home and . . . that's been our day! Hard work they may have been but it didn't stop having a lot of fun.
I had this idea for a photo when I was out in the back garden with Joe. There's a bit of the garden that looks really crap (I've used it before on days 6, 17, and 23) and I saw the stabilizers from Joe's bike lying there. As soon as I saw them I thought about the Sarah Conner dream sequence in Terminator, where she's outside that playpark, then the bomb goes off and everything's obliterated? And all that's left is like flaming swings? I thought of that, then remembered The Smashing Pumpkins had a song called Tales of a Scorched Earth from the album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. And that gave me the theme for this shot.
I'm not sure that there's enough . . . scorched-ness goin' on, nor is it particularly apocalyptic, but I do like the way Lightroom made it look like it was shot in a studio with expensive lighting! Not sure about the highlights Lightroom picked out in my hair either, it looks like I've got half a kilo of gel slapped on. Oh, and by the way it hurts lying on a floor covered in sharp bits of stone. Especially when you rest your head on one of said stones.
It's very dark but I like that, it makes you look for the detail -and you can view it large by following the link below which is probably the best way to view it.
Today's music is actually one song: Mercury by Bloc Party from their imminent third album Intimacy.
I've pre-ordered the album and digital download, which is being released tomorrow a month before the physical release. I'm really interested to hear where they go next musically, their first album was amazing, all angular guitar riffs and amazing drumming (seriously amazing - the drums turn most of the songs from good to great is how amazing), their second a bit more . . . polished, shall we say, but great nontheless with a lot of great tracks. If you're a Radiohead fan you might like these guys as you can hear the Radiohead influence on this album, particularly in some of the lead breaks.
They released a single in between the second and third albums called Flux which was very dance influenced and their current single Mercury is the same, so what the rest of the album sounds like is anyone's guess. I just hope they haven't dropped the guitars for good and turned into a bloody dance band - bleaurgh! the four season nyc bathroom, room 1007. 10pm.
- woke up feeling about 90% from my friday night rocker. i look tired here bc my left eye looks bigger than my right and they are bloodshot as hell.
- had a quick outrageously expensive breakfast (but damn the $10 glass of freshly squeezed passion orange juice was good) and went shopping with my mom.
- it was crapppppyyyyy out, snowed the night before, and was now freezing rain. we walked a few blocks to barneys, where we shopped for a while.
- then we ran into joan rivers by the barney's exit. my mother looked her up and down, stood right next to her pretending to get out her gloves. from where i was standing i *knew* my mom didn't know who she was; she was comparing her coat (fur) to joan rivers' coat (also fur). i called my mom out on it a few seconds later when i said "you were comparing coats to joan rivers, weren't you?" she said yes she was and also was looking at all the work she had done on her face. then she said "that was joan rivers? she's had too much work."
- then we took a cab to soho and went shopping there; tried to find a warm coat at the north face but everything i liked was sold out. wah wah.
- then we grabbed some ray's pizza; got back to the hotel, freshened up and went to the 5pm showing of the Radio City Music Hall 75th Anniversary Christmas Spectacular. that was some fun stuff as long as you removed the screaming children and the smell of popcorn. i thought it would be more, um, civilized. but it was cute.
- then we walked across the street and watched the peeps ice skate. it was cool, i want to do that!
- went back to the hotel and watched the redskins kick some giant ass. haha.
- went to bed early; cycling class in the morning...
I think Scar is Disney's most-developed villain. Subway is offering a fun kids meal with a re-usable lunch sack (a trade-size novel fits nicely inside!). The meal came with a cool 3-D ruler and a $5.00 coupon to apply toward a DVD purchase. I used the coupon at Wal-Mart to get the Blu-Ray/DVD set. I took the DVD on a Band bus trip--the kids loved singing along! At this point, none of the kids (if they are seniors in 2012) had seen the original on the big screen when it made it's 1994 debut. My daughter and I went to a screening recently so she could see this classic film in the movie theater

This is the demo piece used for my online customizing class "DEF:01" Protectobot First Aid. Custom built and cast chest, waist part, light bar, foot (for Defensor) and loads more. Awesome IDW style head was designed by the master fakebusker/Ariel Lemon and printed via Shapeways (3d) Water slide decals, loads of details, and other fun stuff.
Many economists stop short of predicting a wholesale housing bust. The Fed's policymakers said they believed the "gradual cooling of the housing market" would help slow the economy and allow inflation pressures to moderate.
The Fed's cease-fire on rate hikes came after various reports showed the housing boom is definitely over. Sales of new homes and existing homes have been falling. Though median prices are still rising, gains have been the smallest in years.
A record level of unsold homes is expected to exert even greater pressure on prices in coming months.
The concern is that the sizable inventory glut could worsen as millions of Americans with adjustable rate mortgages, taken out when interest rates were at four-decade lows, suddenly find they can't meet new higher monthly payments.

While I must confess I HATE Flickr's new layout, all of my archived photos are available now! :D THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER. Feel free to look through all the stuff from my past here on Flickr. I've got tons of LEGO MOCs, decals, posters, etc, etc. I have most everything in a meticulously organized set, so you can surf those. Fun stuff. Even better since I was genuinely considering getting a Pro Account; what a waste that would have been, huh?! And yes, I still build with LEGO, it's just a matter of getting a new camera.
