It's actually 32 Deg F. in Houston this morning. There's a reason. It's Rodeo time. Traditionally, it's always cold and rainy during the trail rides that take place the week or two before the rodeo. What a grand time of the year. Everyone gets on their horse somewhere outside Houston and rides in, camping along the way. Traffic is blocked for ages waiting on horses, wagons and in general just the fun stuff to get out of the way. There's a great cookoff this weekend. Everyone eats and drinks and in general they all turn into good ole boys and it's a huge party.

You bet! That's Houston, Texas. Ya' gotta love it. So what does this have to do with the Alaskan photo? It's COLD here today.

Thanks to everyone for your visits, comments, favs, and invitations. The photo first showed up in Explore on 27FEB08. Officially on my poster 28FEB08. Thanks!

We had brought some of the limes from our Hungry Harvest delivery. This one ended up in the fire, and when we were putting out the fire, we discovered it had a terrifying face on it!

face, lime, lime of terror, terror.

BACKSTORY: Well, that was a crazy burn! So much shit I never expected to do, at WickerMan Burn 2016!

- Damaged Carolyn's car on the way in so that it permanently squeaks, except it got better by the time we left

- Ate a tequila worm (so much more chewing than you would imagine!) when naked-goddess-bartender poured me one, randomly. (I had to check that it wasn't something from the woods)

- Watched fireworks so dangerously close that I needed first aid for a burned eyeball (could this be why the vision in that eye went bad this year?)

- Learned to weave. On a loom. And wove some. Took video of weaving.

- worried about this spleen issue I have that is starting to feel less like a pain, and more like an actual tumor that you can distinctly feel on one side (still hurting as of 2017, CT Scan found nothing)

- controlled huge flamethrowers with laserbeams & buttons

- fun stuff on top of a 20-ft wooden ziggurat art installation (Carolyn was too scared to go up!)

- Watched a firework fireball zoom past Carolyn's head (she didn't even flinch) and catch the ground on fire 1 foot from her feet

- Made out with both members of a couple (beards can be soft?)

- Bounced in a moon bounce

- Saw Carolyn fall off a bounce-house ramp, tumbling in mid air, as onlookers screamed (one massage later, she's fine)

- Played with propane bubbles (cover hand, stick in fire, watch self burn) with zero regard for my safety or even knowing what they were ("other people aren't dying when they do this, so i'll do this, whatever this is. no, i won't ask anybody any questions about it or learn anything safety-related")

- Treated 2nd degree cooking burn with actual aloe leaves someone bundled up, just in case. Only had to walk 20 feet from my camp! No relation to previous bullet point.

- Tried [REDACTED]

- Used logical deduction to guide a damsel in distress to her campsite that she could not find, even though I had never been there. (If you want to flatter me, make me feel like Aragorn. I also accept pints of cherry tomatoes & great conversation)

- Received tons of compliments about my hair & badass cartoon shirt (and about my brain) (but I get that a lot... it's the others I'm not so used to)

- Worried about Andrea in rehab. Did all kinds of crazy things to maintain connectivity to check up on her. A lotta good that did. RIP, Andrea.

- Learned to always great one specific person with "Hi, Clint!" (Her name is not Clint. This is how she prefers greetings.)

- Wore My Little Pony boxer-briefs around strangers

- Sent video from the middle of the woods with a phone that only works when plugged in (tricky)

- Met the creator of games I've played for 15 yrs, & found out that the vintage set of game pieces my aunt found me in a thrift store are so rare that he was re-telling people about our set... Even when we weren't even there. Sohonored! To tell the man who invented Fluxx that you had the original Fluxx back when that was the only Fluxx you could get was awesome, too.

- But to make a reference to a specific episode of 2 Stupid Dogs to the creator of Fluxx, and have him know it and repeat it back... Wow.

- Chastised by Channy for not knowing how to spell my own name on facebook, becuase she wanted pictoral proof of my story that did not believe -- that the deer shit that came out of the deer when my Bonneville was totalled (while driving back from Dirk's) had splattered onto my car in the shape of Pluto the Dog's face. I totally sent her that picture!

- Lost 1 of 2 cameras, resulting in our pictures being quite incomplete (gee, real Burnery of whoever found it to not bother giving it back. If I find someone else's camera, I guess this means I'll have to keep it to break even?)

- Learned I can consistently inhale an entire nitrous oxide cartridge in one lungful

- Randomly given 2 beers by someone, only to ask to see her face, and, after introductions, us all realizing we already know each other already and are FB friends already (wtf?! what are the odds?!)

Saw a truck covered in fire driving down the mountain like nothing was going on. Overheard: "Are you seeing that? Is that real?"

Phew? Did I get everything? I don't know! One night, I never saw my camp during the night time, at all.

Hey! I discovered my camera still works. Took a run up to Camas Ntl Wildlife Refuge the other night and found this little guy checking me out. Fun stuff.

After trying to chase CP 5698 on an ethanol train to La Porte, IN and running into a massive road block on 80/94 at the Indiana State Line we turned around and flew up I294 to Hinsdale where we caught a unit gondola train with one of the few remaining YN2 SD40-2s leading the way through the Metra depot at Highlands. fun stuff before sleep :p

The sun sinking into the open Pacific, viewed from around Pacific Grove, CA. A very brief green flash was soon witnessed. Fun stuff! This is one of my favorite places to watch the sunset by the sea! This was during me and my family's brief Easter Sunday outing... Our outing in summary: We went to eat our early dinner at the new location of Phil's Fish Market & Eatery now located in Castroville, CA. It was a nice location, at least the parking was a tad larger. The bad thing was that it was no longer by the sea. After feasting good with our usual favorites, we went our separate ways. Me and my parents continued on to enjoy the ocean views all the way in Pacific Grove, CA while my sister and her fam went home right after dinner. For me and my parents, we just chilled and took in the beautiful scenic views by the sea while watching the sun slowly set over the vast, clear Pacific. It’s usually cloudy along the coast so we took advantage of the clear conditions. Seeing sunsets by the sea are always my favorite! We quickly went home as soon as the sun disappeared beyond the horizon. It was a brief but great Easter Sunday outing we had! ‘Til next time, safe travels! (Outing taken place Sunday, April 9, 2023)

***“There was a magic about the sea. People were drawn to it. People wanted to love by it, swim in it, play in it, look at it. It was a living thing that was as unpredictable as a great stage actor: it could be calm and welcoming, opening its arms to embrace it’s audience one moment, but then could explode with its stormy tempers, flinging people around, wanting them out, attacking coastlines, breaking down islands.” – Cecelia Ahern.***

For my Super Swaps partner - hope you like it!! I used linen and Madrona Road to make this Noodlehead Open Wide Pouch. I have filled it with some fun stuff too!!!

a soap bubble shooting

I got a call about a REALLY COOL BUG on my mom's deck. So I grabbed my camera and ran up. I love that she knows to call me for things like this! :)

130/365.

…like Donkey Kong.

Friday was the "me and the boy" day. I wanted to take him into the city and do some fun stuff together. Plan A was to go up the CN Tower and then visit the Hockey Hall of Fame, but it was cloudy and rainy with bad visibility so the Tower would have been a bust. So I gave #1 some options: Royal Ontario Museum, Hockey Hall of Fame anyway, Art Gallery, Ontario Science Centre and a couple other things. He chose the Science Centre.

So we get there, and lo and behold, their special exhibit for the summer is "Game On 2.0 - 60 years of Video Games". Well ho-lee-bananas, I though he was going to burst he was so excited (I may have shrieked like a school girl when I saw that too…)

3 words: IT. WAS. AWESOME.

They had everything from Pong, to Space Invaders, to Pac Man to the latest and greatest XBox 360 games and the babysteps of virtual reality. There were all kinds of interactive displays (basically, you could have played about 200 different games, from the past 60 years, no quarters required) and static displays of some of the hardware and how it's evolved (think Atari 2600, Commodore 64, tabletop arcade games, mini arcade games and portables, the whole shebang. It brought back SO many memories of games I used to play, quarters I used to spend and some of the hardware I used to have.

We spent a couple hours doing that exhibit and then had lunch and took in a 40minute OMNImax movie about the Hubble space telescope. If you've never seen an OMNImax movie, it is totally killer. 180 degrees of view and complete and utter surround sound. It's quite the experience. After the movie we checked out some other non-video game exhibits (the planetarium, etc) then went back to Mike's place for sushi dinner with them and to watch the hockey game. Good times!

Well fun stuff, I really got to stop taking a nap when I get home from work. So as you can guess last night when I got home I pretty much just passed out and called it a day, had like a one hour alarm set just for a quick nap but we all know that never happens. I woke up around 3 hours later and it was already 10:30pm and basically sighed in relief and went thank god, I still have 1 1/2 hours left to shoot something. Not as bad as some other times during my first 365 I can tell you that. I mean I could have used one of the random snapshots I took earlier but that's one of those things I'd only do out of desperation. So I just grabbed some stuff and tried to lay something out for the days photo. I tried several quick layouts and seemed to like this one the most. Also in order to make it a little more interesting I grabbed a wooden chair we have at home and shoot through the back of it which is whats causing the shadows. After quickly playing around with the shadows I just called it a day since time I almost up and I just did some quick editing, passed out for the day and now I've just uploaded and posted about it in the afternoon. So yea fun last minute photos. Also yea thats not coffee since I don't dink coffee, its actually chocolate milk!

Lots of fun stuff to see and photograph. Nesting season so plenty of fun baby birds.
