These photos are out in front of my new house on Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver on the way out to Deep Cove in British Columbia, Canada. Here's a couple expiraments with keeping the shutter open longer at night to get the motion blur. This one is 10 second exposure on a Canon 20d DLSR using a Canon 24-70mm f/2.6 L-series lens.
I don't really know what I'm doing but it's fun stuff. I might go downtown tonight where there is more action and try again.
Would love any advice or feedback on shooting things like this... moving lighted things at night to get a cool blur. Thx.
We actually made it to the burn this year! We didn't sleep through it.

BACKSTORY: Well, that was a crazy burn! So much shit I never expected to do, at WickerMan Burn 2016!
- Damaged Carolyn's car on the way in so that it permanently squeaks, except it got better by the time we left
- Ate a tequila worm (so much more chewing than you would imagine!) when naked-goddess-bartender poured me one, randomly. (I had to check that it wasn't something from the woods)
- Watched fireworks so dangerously close that I needed first aid for a burned eyeball (could this be why the vision in that eye went bad this year?)
- Learned to weave. On a loom. And wove some. Took video of weaving.
- worried about this spleen issue I have that is starting to feel less like a pain, and more like an actual tumor that you can distinctly feel on one side (still hurting as of 2017, CT Scan found nothing)
- controlled huge flamethrowers with laserbeams & buttons
- fun stuff on top of a 20-ft wooden ziggurat art installation (Carolyn was too scared to go up!)
- Watched a firework fireball zoom past Carolyn's head (she didn't even flinch) and catch the ground on fire 1 foot from her feet
- Made out with both members of a couple (beards can be soft?)
- Bounced in a moon bounce
- Saw Carolyn fall off a bounce-house ramp, tumbling in mid air, as onlookers screamed (one massage later, she's fine)
- Played with propane bubbles (cover hand, stick in fire, watch self burn) with zero regard for my safety or even knowing what they were ("other people aren't dying when they do this, so i'll do this, whatever this is. no, i won't ask anybody any questions about it or learn anything safety-related")
- Treated 2nd degree cooking burn with actual aloe leaves someone bundled up, just in case. Only had to walk 20 feet from my camp! No relation to previous bullet point.
- Tried [REDACTED]
- Used logical deduction to guide a damsel in distress to her campsite that she could not find, even though I had never been there. (If you want to flatter me, make me feel like Aragorn. I also accept pints of cherry tomatoes & great conversation)
- Received tons of compliments about my hair & badass cartoon shirt (and about my brain) (but I get that a lot... it's the others I'm not so used to)
- Worried about Andrea in rehab. Did all kinds of crazy things to maintain connectivity to check up on her. A lotta good that did. RIP, Andrea.
- Learned to always great one specific person with "Hi, Clint!" (Her name is not Clint. This is how she prefers greetings.)
- Wore My Little Pony boxer-briefs around strangers
- Sent video from the middle of the woods with a phone that only works when plugged in (tricky)
- Met the creator of games I've played for 15 yrs, & found out that the vintage set of game pieces my aunt found me in a thrift store are so rare that he was re-telling people about our set... Even when we weren't even there. So honored! To tell the man who invented Fluxx that you had the original Fluxx back when that was the only Fluxx you could get was awesome, too.
- But to make a reference to a specific episode of 2 Stupid Dogs to the creator of Fluxx, and have him know it and repeat it back... Wow.
- Chastised by Channy for not knowing how to spell my own name on facebook, becuase she wanted pictoral proof of my story that did not believe -- that the deer shit that came out of the deer when my Bonneville was totalled (while driving back from Dirk's) had splattered onto my car in the shape of Pluto the Dog's face. I totally sent her that picture!
- Lost 1 of 2 cameras, resulting in our pictures being quite incomplete (gee, real Burnery of whoever found it to not bother giving it back. If I find someone else's camera, I guess this means I'll have to keep it to break even?)
- Learned I can consistently inhale an entire nitrous oxide cartridge in one lungful
- Randomly given 2 beers by someone, only to ask to see her face, and, after introductions, us all realizing we already know each other already and are FB friends already (wtf?! what are the odds?!)
Saw a truck covered in fire driving down the mountain like nothing was going on. Overheard: "Are you seeing that? Is that real?"
Phew? Did I get everything? I don't know! One night, I never saw my camp during the night time, at all.
................floating...................... on water.............................
The leaf is on shaded water with a bit of light on it. When I fill flashed it, the leaf tones were brought out but the water remained shadowy. What I really like about the opportunity is that the leaf had water floating in it as well....... if you look closely, you can see water puddles on the leaf both left and right from the center out.
Fun stuff.
Thanks again to all of you that visit and comment. :)

This was taken at the Nevada County State Fair in Grass Valley, California. This was a much smaller fair than our San Diego County Fair, and we loved it. It was less crowded, everything was cheaper, and we really enjoyed the small town atmosphere. This was taken in the amusement park area of the park and was an attraction I'd never seen before. There were 5 or 6 of these inflated balls in an enclosed shallow pool, and the kids had a great time trying to stand up and then falling down. It was fun to watch. I wish I'd brought a tripod with me to take a long exposure, but I didn't want to deal with it in the small area where I was standing. Fun stuff.
I've taken a lot of pictures at fairs over the years, and if you like that sort of thing they're in my San Diego County Fair album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157600647070312/

A temporary pop-up store that opened for the holiday season. Formerly Verizon Wireless.
This space is now Smoky Mountain Handmade Candles, as of April 2018.

The Port Charlotte Town Center originally opened in August 1989, as the first (and currently only) major enclosed shopping mall in Charlotte County. Built and opened by the DeBartolo Corporation, the mall opened with Sears, JCPenney, and Belk-Lindsey as original anchors, with space available for three more. Maas Brothers was originally planned to open as a fourth anchor in 1990, but these plans later fell through, due to the financial troubles that parent company Federated was going through at the time.
Dillard's and Montgomery Ward were added as fourth and fifth anchors in 1992. Around the same time, Belk-Lindsey closed at the mall and was replaced by Burdines in 1994. A 16-screen Regal Cinemas multiplex was added on to the mall in 1999 as its final newly-built anchor, replacing an older 8-screen cinema at the corner of US-41 and Cochran Boulevard (now occupied by a post office and Edgewater Church). Montgomery Ward closed in 2000-01 with the bankruptcy of the chain, and was replaced by Bealls in 2002. Burdines was renamed to Burdines-Macy’s in 2003, before becoming Macy’s in 2005.
Junior anchors of the mall include Old Navy (opened in 1999) and DSW Shoe Warehouse.
For my Super Swaps partner - hope you like it!! I used linen and Madrona Road to make this Noodlehead Open Wide Pouch. I have filled it with some fun stuff too!!!
Critique and Commentary always appreciated.
Another Model Mayhem shoot tonight. Hope is the first of a string that are in response to me posting a casting call for people interested in vintage / noir styles. If they are all as much fun as this was, it'll be a good month or so.
We met up in Balboa park near Hillcrest, in the middle of a big power outage in the area. So things were darker than ordinary, which was a little complicated. I was really looking forward to trying out the radio triggers over a longer period and in setups that I'm more familiar with to see how their usage really compared with the IR triggering built in to my Canon flashes. But given that the power was out everywhere, I ran (again) into the fact that without a focus-assist lamp, focusing in the dark is a no-go. So the first half of these (the non-smoking ones) were done with IR triggering. For the cigar shots we moved to another location in the park and stood below a street lamp so that I could have enough light to focus. The radio triggers really shined here, having a wide-open space and opposing lights, scenarios that never work with the IR.
Less technologically, this was an interesting shoot because it gave me a chance to practice my, "Oh, I'm official and respectable, you should let me shoot where I want" skilz. The caretaker for our first location (the Marston House in the park) saw us as we were walking up to the place and asked us what we were up to. I casually and calmly described it to him, he seemed surprised, but let us go about our business. After a few minutes of shooting I tracked him down to show him what we were getting, and how we were showcasing "his" location, which seemed to draw him into the process. It was a good feeling.
The other notable happy accident was the lamp posts. I didn't really think about the color of the lamp posts in the park (at least on the west side) being blue, or that they basically match the color of cigar smoke. I was not really intending to do these in color originally, but after just the first couple shots the color was so compelling that it necessitated a change in plans.
Fun stuff, all in all.
Strobist info: 2x 430s in 1/2" grid @ 1/8, camera left and camera right. Left is about 4 feet away, right is about 6-8, hence the difference in light and contrast. Triggered via RadioPopper JrX transmitter and JrX studio receivers.
I got a call about a REALLY COOL BUG on my mom's deck. So I grabbed my camera and ran up. I love that she knows to call me for things like this! :)
i got to hang w/ my most favorite kid in the whole world today. i picked G up from daycare, then we did lots of fun stuff including having ice cream before dinner and playing hard at the playground. it was a great day--although i DID NOT get to witness the "Never Never Land" crew like some people......

Well, I didn't get the other range clock from the antique store, but I got this one on Ebay. And it's *sigh* pink!!

A week has passed since I arrived in Portland. I've been mainly busy spending time with my adorable grandchildren, taking them to the school bus in the morning, waiting for them at the bus stop in the afternoon. In between playing, reading and painting with the wee one and the 4 y/o. There's no shortage of doing fun stuff with little children !
However, today I took a couple of hours to myself and walked down Hawthorne Blvd to look around and meet new people.
Portlanders are friendly and easy to talk to.
Chris was passing by while I was making some pictures of two new murals in town. I said hello and we started talking.
Being a Portlander he hadn't noticed one of the murals I was photographing and thanked me for pointing his attention to it.
Chris has been working as a massage therapist for the past decade, a work he likes a lot. He was actually taking a lunch break from work to run a few errands so we didn't spend too much time together.
"What would be your message to the world, Chris?"
"Breathe, don't panic!" came his answer straight away.
"And your advice to your younger self?"
"The same. Breathe and try not to panic!"
Chris had no email address to give me. "I am old school," he said. I gave him one of my cards so he can get in touch.
He thanked me for the random encounter and wished me a good rest of the day.
As I said, Portlanders are so friendly :-)

promise to post some fun stuff not work soon!! :)
Taken on the track (obviously) with a wide aperature, low ISO, and medium (400ish) shutter speed. Pretty fun stuff.
Some of the fun stuff I did in Behzad Bagheri's wonderful workshop on the Thursday morning of the symposium - thank you for a great workshop! I had a ball even though I wasn't doing the exercises properly… got carried away playing with pigment!

The fun stuff comes when someone is not so strict on sticking to the script. You're allowed the spontaneity, and great moments can happen.
