This is what you see from the front of my tank.
In most aquaria, when looking at the tank from the front, often times you're found gazing at a very 2D looking aqua-scape (Or just a pile of rock seemingly just thrown in). I really wanted to stray away from this conventional method of aqua-scaping. Thus, this arrangement was born ... I find it gives more perspective, depth, and dimension to the tank.

This hydrangea plant was on its last leg last fall after getting way too much sun and not enough water over the summer. It has officially rebounded. The yellow flowers in the background are Stella lilies.
The horizontal stabilizer is almost 12 feet long and the connection to the tailcone is a very narrow section at the center. This makes for quite a long lever arm and the spar must be able to withstand some serious forces. In the center, between the spar, caps, and doubler, there's well over a quarter inch of aluminum.
For more details about the construction of the horizontal stabilizer, see the build log.
Marjoram (lower left, blooming), hyssop and sage (center), violets (lighter green, at sidewalk edge), lamb's ears (blooming left center, by street); between the tree and the sidewalk, moth pinks bloom (white blossoms); beyond the tree, Rosa multiflora spreads its wings and a bed of daylilies stretches to the streetlight post at the end of the strip. The few little tufts of grass in the foreground are a wee reminder of the lawn that used to be (I don't miss it). (July, 2013)
San Gabriel Mission. The painting to the left of Our Lady of Sorrows has an interesting history. Apparently the missionaries could not communicate verbally with the Native Americans, show they showed this exact painting to them and the Native Americans were so enthralled by it, they joined up with the missionaries.
True? Perhaps...
Legend? Perhaps...
I have cleaned my front porch and wanted a picture before it got dusty and full of the fall leaves!!
