Glastonbury Tor is a hill in Glastonbury, Somerset, England, which features the roofless St Michael's Tower and forms an iconic part of the local landscape. The site is managed by the National Trust. It has been designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (No: 196702).
Tor is a local word of Celtic origin meaning "rock outcropping" or "hill". The Tor has a striking location in the middle of the Summerland Meadows, part of the Somerset Levels. The plain is actually reclaimed fenland out of which the Tor once rose as an island but now, with the surrounding flats, is a peninsula washed on three sides by the River Brue. The remains of Glastonbury Lake Village nearby were identified in 1892, showing that there was an Iron Age settlement about 300–200 BC on what was an easily defended island in the fens. Earthworks and Roman remains prove later occupation. The spot seems to have been called Ynys yr Afalon (meaning "The Isle of Avalon") by the Britons and is believed by some to be the Avalon of Arthurian legend.
A model of Glastonbury Tor was incorporated into the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. As the athletes entered the stadium, their flags were displayed on the terraces of the model.

Noticed flurries of activity around our nest box today. And as the temperature is around minus 2 debrees, with frost staying on the grass all day, I wonder if they are checking out a warm place to roost tonight?

Title: From Form to Formless (to Form)
Material: plaster and fabric
You are invited to become a destructive collaborator within this work. Paradoxically made to be destroyed, feel free to crush these plaster forms underfoot. In transition, the rich and satisfying sound of breaking plaster will resonate down the stairwell. The fragments shall be swept away and added to the fabric paunch in the adjacent room.
What might the on-looking Discus Thrower make of this?
These hollow shells, originally moulded from the body’s negative space, hint at the ghost of a process. The effigies appear genderless; their delicate bodies are balanced upon plaster-worked clothes. As a multitude, these corporeal off-cuts acknowledge their fleshy simulation. This piece is concerned with bodies, destruction as a tool and an accumulative sculptural process.

This is part of the two pilot leagues which were launching in September 22.
This could be a huge step for the development of wrestling in this country. If successful with our pilot season this could lead to the launch of a nationwide league launching in every region of the UK by the end of 2023.

Castilleja nana, typical form, moments before the sun went down behind the Sierra Nevada to the west, about 10,000' adjacent to White Mountain Road, White Mountains, Inyo Co., CA, 14 Jul 2015. As in many mountain ranges in the Great Basin, C. nana can be found in the White Mountains in both this pale form and in a reddish-purple form first described as Castilleja lapidicola. The two seem to differ primarily in color, and their ranges are broadly (though not entirely) overlapping. I did not find the reddish-purple form on this trip, and it may be limited to even higher altitudes.
Note: within this posting is included my 30,000th Flickr photo, posted since joining up in January 2009. Wow. Let's hope Flickr last forever! Also wanted to celebrate the wonderful though inexplicably minimized Flickr feature called Collections, which organize albums (sets) into larger, more inclusive groupings. Collections are now only directly accessible from the "More" pulldown window on one's main Photostream page. Here is the organizational structure of my entire Flickr site:

This is the first of many photos I took recently while covering the Joe Goode Performance Group. I found their work striking and immensely enjoyed the opportunity to shoot under stage lighting, which posed some unexpected challenges but also a lot of fun opportunities. This was also my first time shooting dancers, which I found at once exciting and extraordinarily challenging. I do hope to get a chance to do this again sometime as well. Procesed using an orange filter in post. This production was titled "Hush," and based off of true stories. You can read more at www.thesandb.com/arts/performance-group-melds-dance-and-t....
