Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. The city, which had a population of 747,290 on 1 January 2008, comprises the northern part of the Randstad, the 6th-largest metropolitan area in Europe, with a population of around 6.7 million.
Its name is derived from Amstel dam, indicative of the city's origin: a dam in the river Amstel where the Dam Square is today. Settled as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. During this time, the city was the leading centre for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded and many new neighbourhoods and suburbs were formed.
The city is the financial and cultural capital of the Netherlands. Many large Dutch institutions have their headquarters there, and 7 of the world's top 500 companies, including Philips and ING, are based in the city . The Amsterdam Stock Exchange, part of Euronext, is located in the city centre. Amsterdam's main attractions, including its historic canals, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, its red-light district and its many cannabis coffee shops, draw 4.2 million tourists annually.

Ceramics and ceramic art in the art world means artwork made out of clay bodies and fired to form a ceramic. Some ceramic pieces are classified as fine art, while many others can be classified as one of the decorative, industrial or applied arts (the application of design and aesthetics to objects of function and everyday use). The identification of a specific pottery piece as a "work of art" is not always clear. Ceramic art usually, but not always, was intended by the maker as art. It may have a signature, designer name or brand name stamp on the bottom. Ceramic art can be either manufactured by individuals or in a factory that employs artists to design, produce or decorate the ware.
Historically, ceramic articles were prepared by shaping the clay body, a clay rich mixture of various minerals, into the desired shapes before being subjected to high temperatures in a kiln. However ceramics now refers to a very diverse group of materials which, while all are fired to high temperature, may not have been shaped from material containing any clay. The origin of the word is the ancient Greek keramikos, from Keramos, meaning "potter's clay." [1]

Ross Craig (1926-2012) was a local historian born in Stockton and dedicated much of his life promoting and conserving the history of Stockton, NSW. He possessed a wealth of knowledge about the suburb and was a founding member of the Stockton Historical Society and co-editor of its magazine. Pat Craig supported her husband’s passion for history, and together they made a great contribution to the Stockton and Newcastle communities. We thank the Craig Family and Stockton Historical Society who have kindly given Cultural Collections at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia, access to the collection and allowed us to publish the images. Our principal violinists, cellist and harpsichordist were at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington, on Wednesday 20th September 2017 for a workshop on performance and interpretation. We greatly enjoyed working with the orchestra and soloists on three concertos – Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor BWV 1041, Vivaldi’s Flute Concerto in D major ‘The Goldfinch’ RV428 and John Garth’s Cello Concerto No 2 in B flat major. It was an intensive workshop focusing on period interpretation, style and performance practices, and at the end of the workshop the orchestra presented a concert to an invited audience of students from other schools in the area. We were delighted to be involved in this workshop to engage and explore this wonderful music with enthusiastic young players.
We’re grateful to Dr Simon Fleming (Curriculum Leader for Music) and the staff at QESFC for inviting us to lead this workshop. QESFC has a thriving culture of music education and participation, and we’re delighted to have been involved in supporting their music learning.
The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison (1709-1770) and other English classical composers of the Baroque period, such as Garth, Arne and Herschel. The Ensemble also performs Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Pergolesi, Teleman, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.

This is part of the two pilot leagues which were launching in September 22.
This could be a huge step for the development of wrestling in this country. If successful with our pilot season this could lead to the launch of a nationwide league launching in every region of the UK by the end of 2023.

Banda formada en el año 1989, en las que se puede ver las influencias tanto de The Misfits como Hard-on. El nombre de esta banda es por tanto un tributo a esas dos bandas que tanto les gustan, de ahí el nombre compuesto por: Satanic, para darle un toque de horror, siguiendo la escuela de Glenn Danzing y sus amigos de The Misfits; y Surfers, pagando el tributo a la vieja escuela de surf-punk encabezada por Hard-on.
El género musical de ésta banda, puede decirse semejante al de NOFX y Lag Wagon. El sello discografico Burning Heart se fijó en ellos y les hizo crecer del mundo musical.
Los últimos años han sido una época de cambios para Satanic Surfers. Rodrigo Alfaro ha sido, a pesar de lo que pueda parecer, la fuerza creativa de la banda. Siendo a la vez batería y cantante estos roles eran difíciles de compaginar, pero las cosas fueron cambiando. Un nuevo baterista entró en la banda, Martin Svensson, así que Rodrigo pasó a ser unicamente vocalista.
Se disolvieron en 2007.

Uno scavo non è mai fine a se stesso. Abbiamo spesso accennato alle tesi di laurea che alcuni dei nostri studenti hanno dedicato al Foro della Pace e oggi vogliamo inaugurare un nuovo spazio in cui presentare questi lavori.
Nella sua tesi di laurea magistrale, Maura Fadda ha ricostruito le fasi di vita del Vicus ad Carinas, una via antichissima che collegava il Foro Romano con il quartiere delle Carine. L'Area 5, dove stiamo scavando in questo momento, corrisponde proprio ad un tratto di questa antica strada.
Con la costruzione del Templum Pacis (71-75 d.C.) l’andamento del Vicus venne adattato alla nuova organizzazione dell’area voluta dagli imperatori flavi. Dopo lo spaventoso incendio subito dal monumento nel 192 d.C., gli interventi e i restauri di epoca severiana coinvolsero anche il Vicus, che venne affiancato da una serie di tabernae affacciate sulla strada, in parte visibili ancora oggi.
Nel IV secolo, in occasione della costruzione della Basilica di Massenzio, il livello della strada venne alzato e, per non interrompere il collegamento con il Foro Romano, si aprì un passaggio all’interno della Basilica stessa: il cosiddetto Arco del Latrone.
Tra il V e il VI secolo, contemporaneamente alla consacrazione della chiesa dei SS. Cosma e Damiano, l’antico lastricato in basoli venne ancora rialzato, e a partire dall'XI secolo si sviluppò una necropoli lungo i margini meridionali del Vicus. Il collegamento con il Foro Romano fu definitivamente interrotto quando, per la realizzazione del quartiere Alessandrino nel XVI secolo, venne chiuso il passaggio dell’Arco del Latrone.
Ad oggi, il tracciato continua in parte ad esistere: oltre l’area di scavo, la strada prosegue sotto via dei Fori Imperiali, e rivive in via del Tempio della Pace, via dei Frangipane e via delle Sette Sale.

El director de la Masía imparte una conferencia con la presencia de los 300 futbolistas de la escuela y más de 150 padres y madres en la que explica cómo funciona la residencia azulgrana y la importancia que tiene seguir una buena formación académica paralela al fútbol
Carles Folguera, director de la Masía, ha hecho realidad el sueño de los 300 niños de la FCBEscola de Santo Domingo: conocer de primera mano el modelo formativo de la residencia de deportistas azulgrana, descubrir más secretos del estilo de juego del campeón del mundo y escuchar cómo son los valores que configuran el ADN Barça con los que ellos trabajan cada día en sus instalaciones. Y es que nadie se quiso perder la conferencia que Carles Folguera hizo ayer por la noche en la sede de la FCBEscola Santo Domingo ante estos emocionados jugadores y más de 150 padres y madres y todo el equipo directivo y técnico de la escuela. Todos siguieron con mucha atención las explicaciones del director de la Masía en la hora que duró la charla.
Folguera les explicó qué es la Masía, quién vive en la residencia, cómo funciona en su día a día y cuál es el camino, lleno de adversidades, que han de recorrer los jóvenes jugadores del Barça hasta convertirse en profesionales del fútbol. Folguera, como ya hizo hace unos meses en Lima (Perú) y la pasada semana en Guayaquil (Ecuador), les ha hablado de la necesidad de formarse como personas: “El proceso formativo es importante. Es muy difícil llegar a la cumbre. Cuando conectas con ellos emocionalmente se dan cuenta de la dificultad y es cuando se preparan para el plan B y dan importancia a la formación académica”.
Folguera les ha explicado qué significan y como se han de aplicar los valores del ADN Barça, como son el esfuerzo, el trabajo en equipo, el respeto, la humildad y la ambición, en su vida diaria y les ha animado a seguir practicando el fútbol en la FCBEscola Santo Domingo bajo la filosofía Barça. “Nuestro club tiene un estilo de juego único en el mundo en el que la pelota siempre es la referencia. Nuestro juego se asocia a la excelencia técnica, a una plasticidad y a un espectáculo. Para que haya una mejora es imprescindible disfrutar jugando. Y nosotros lo hacemos. Esta es la clave que hace del Barça un club único”.

Los chicos y chicas de la FCBEscola Santo Domingo han dado la bienvenida a Folguera en un discurso en catalán en el que le han agradecido su presencia y después se ha disputado un partido amistoso entre el equipo cadete de la escuela i el equipo Sub-17 de Pantoja, club que ganó la Liga dominicana el año pasado en su categoría, en el que se ha impuesto la FCBEscola por 2-1 y en el que Folguera ha hecho el saque de honor. La anécdota de la jornada la ha protagonizado uno de los jóvenes futbolistas cuando en el turno de preguntas que se ha hecho posterior a la conferencia de Folguera le ha dicho que por qué no se lo llevaba ya a vivir a la Masía.
