Tulips (Tulipa) form a genus of spring-blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes (having bulbs as storage organs). The flowers are usually large, showy and brightly colored, generally red, pink, yellow, or white (usually in warm colors). They often have a different colored blotch at the base of the tepals (petals and sepals, collectively), internally. Tulips originally were found in a band stretching from Southern Europe to Central Asia, but since the seventeenth century have become widely naturalised and cultivated. Flowering in the spring, they become dormant in the summer once the flowers and leaves die back, emerging above ground as a shoot from the underground bulb in early spring. The tulip's flowers are usually large and are actinomorphic (radially symmetric) and hermaphrodite (contain both male (androecium) and female (gynoecium) characteristics), generally erect, or more rarely pendulous, and are arranged more usually as a single terminal flower, or when pluriflor as two to three (e.g. Tulipa turkestanica), but up to four, flowers on the end of a floriferous stem (scape), which is single arising from amongst the basal leaf rosette. 11717

I finally connected with this Helice form beauty. 2 other Clouded Yellows seen on the day(way down in numbers from last year)...but certainly worth the effort.....................what a beauty she is too.

Angkor Wat ("Capital Temple") is a temple complex in Panorama view of the corner of Angkor Wat formed by the East and South Entrance fencing.

Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world measuring 162.6 hectares. It was originally constructed in early 12th century by King Suryavarman II as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire and gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia (national flag) and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

Angkor Wat combines two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture: the temple-mountain and the later galleried temple. It is designed to represent Mount Meru. Within the moat is the outer wall 3.6 kilometers long and there are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next. At the center of the temple stands a quincunx of towers. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat is oriented to the west; scholars are divided as to the significance of this. The temple is admired for the grandeur and harmony of the architecture, its extensive bas-reliefs, and for the numerous devatas (deity) adorning its walls.

Looking up at the award-winning Sharp Centre for Design at OCAD University in Toronto. Although quite striking with the 12 multi-coloured, pencil-like supports, I downplayed the colour as to highlight the contrasting shapes, angles, light and textures with this capture.

The sedimentary rocks formed in the Upper Cretaceous that occur in the region of Torotoro, Bolivia, belong to the El Molino Formation, which can be divided into three members due to their distinct lithologic characteristics. The lower member consists of carbonate rocks, the intermediate member by siliciclastic and mixed rocks, and the upper, by carbonate rocks. These association of rocks occur as the upper strata of the Torotoro Syncline, a 45 km long and 9.5 km wide feature well preserved in the dynamic of Andean tectonic.
