El complejo de edificios que forman la Villa del Casale es el descubrimiento arqueoógico más importante de la Sicilia Romana. La lujosa vila de campo que se cree perteneció a la familia imperial de Masimiliano Ercúleo, está situada en el fértil valle del río Gela y fue construida entre finales del siglo III y primeros años del siglo IV dC en el centro de un latifundio rural.De acuerdo con Vinicio Gentili, al que se debe su descubrimiento arqueoógico, el mayor esplendor de la villa fueron los siglos IV y V dC. El latifundio estaba formado por una aldea rural, "mansiones" y cortijos donde los eclavos y "procuratores" labraban la tierra. El gran interéa que suscita la visita de la villa es debido fundamentalmente a los mosaicos que cubren los suelos de todas las habitaciones, galerías y termas y que constituyen un conjunto de singular beleza.
El mosaico de mayor interés es el que recubre el pasillo cubierto llamado "de la caza mayor", con detalles que ilustran las distintas fases de la captura, transporte y muerte de los animales en un escenario puramente africano.
Otro mosaicos de interés es el de la caza menor, en el que ademá de representarse diversas escenas de caza menor se representa en el centro una escena de sacrificio ritual a la diosa de la Caza Artemisa o Diana.
Otros mosaicos interesantes son el del "cubiculum de la escena erótica";el de la sala de "las diez jóvenes hijas", en el que diez doncellas estan representadas vistiendo bikinis en elmomento de realizar ejercicios gimnásticos o de recibir premios.

"The surface of each 'candy apple' is acid etched to give it a satin appearance. In 2010, there are only a few of the dragonfly murrini remaining. This is one of the last apples to feature the dragonfly."
L'Amou-Daria naît dans les montagnes du Pamir, traverse l'Hindou Kouch puis le désert du Karakoum et la Steppe de la Faim, avant de former un delta qui se jette dans la mer d'Aral.
L'Amou-Daria est formé de la jonction de deux puissants cours d'eau, le Vakhch (qui a donné le nom d'Oxus) venu du nord-est (Kirghizistan et Tadjikistan) et le Piandj venu du plateau du Pamir (à l'est). Ce dernier, plus puissant, est considéré comme étant le cours supérieur du fleuve.
Sa surface d'irrigation ou bassin versant est de 534 739 km2, et son débit annuel moyen est de 55 kilomètres cubes d'eau (c'est-à-dire un peu plus de 1 850 m3/s – autant que le Rhône en Camargue), compte non tenu des importants prélèvements effectués dans son cours inférieur pour l'irrigation. Cette énorme quantité d'eau provient quasi totalement des hautes montagnes de l'Hindou Kouch, du Tian Shan et du Pamir, où les précipitations peuvent dépasser 1 500 millimètres annuellement, et où la lame d'eau écoulée peut atteindre 1 000 millimètres par an.
Long de 2 580 km, mais navigable sur 1 450 km uniquement, il est très utilisé pour l'irrigation (notamment pour la culture du coton), ce qui a causé en grande partie l'assèchement de la mer d'Aral.
L'Amou-Daria sert de frontière entre l'Afghanistan et le Tadjikistan, et en partie entre l'Ouzbékistan et le Turkménistan. Le canal du Karakoum, long de 1 375 km, part de l'Amou-Daria en direction de la mer Caspienne, qu'il atteint au niveau de la ville de Türkmenbaşy (ex Krasnovodsk), et passe notamment par Ashgabad, la capitale du Turkménistan.
Un des bras de l'Amou-Daria se jette, depuis 1971, dans le lac Sary Kamysh, qui était auparavant une dépression parsemée de plusieurs lacs salés. (source Wikipédia)

FORMS OF CRUDE RUBBER, AKRON, OHIO
This picture was taken in a great rubber goods factory in Akron, Ohio. The raw rubber you see here has come from several places in the tropics. For rubber trees grow in hot countries only, such as Brazil, Mexico, and Africa.
The rubber tree is a tall, straight tree, oftentimes 60 feet high. Its bark looks like that of the beech, and it has graceful plumes for leaves. Between the bark and the wood is a gummy fluid called latex. It is not the sap of the tree. From latex crude rubber is made.
On the upper Amazon the natives go into the jungles in October to gather rubber. They tap the trees in two ways. One is by cutting the bark in a wide gash that girdles the trunk in a spiral. A trough or a pail is set, and into this the latex flows from the gash. Each day the gash is extended. The other way is to tap the trees in much the same manner as sugar maples.
On top of the latex so gathered a sort of cream rises. The native dips a paddle in this and holds it over a smudge of palm leaves or nuts until the latex dries. This plan he continues till he has a great ball of the size you see. The crude rubber is brought down the Amazon River in boats. Para is the chief city of the world in the export of raw rubber.
In the East Indies there are many rubber plantations. There the latex is thickened by an acid, and the rubber is rolled into sheets. It is these sheets that you see on the truck.
The United States imports yearly over 100,000,000 pounds of rubber. This is almost as much as Great Britain, Germany, and France combined import in the same time.

Odissi (or Orissi) is the traditional style of dance that originated in the state of Orissa in Eastern India, where it was performed by the Maharis (temple dancers). It is one of the oldest surviving forms of dance, with evidence dating back to 2200 BC to be found in the caves of Khandagiri and Udayagiri in Orissa.
Odissi is characterised by its curvaceous movements, sculpturesque poses full of languid grace and an imposing demeanour at the same time.

España entró en la leyenda del fútbol logrando su segunda Eurocopa de selecciones de forma consecutiva y firmando la gesta de lograr la triple corona. El equipo de Vicente del Bosque goleó (4-0) a Italia en la gran final de Kiev en un partido en el que exhibió el fútbol de toque veloz que le situó entre las grandes.
Con Cesc de nueve y el mismo planteamiento del primer partido del torneo ante los italianos, a España le costó de inicio superar la adelantada presión planteada por Prandelli. La apareción de Xavi resultó clave para zafarse y de sus botas se inició el dominio del balón y del ritmo del partido. Suyo fue además el primer disparo por encima de Buffon, antes de que Silva inaugurara el marcador tras una jugada marca de la casa. Iniesta rompió la defensa con un pase medido, Cesc se disfrazó del mejor extremo y David Silva cabeceó con potencia a la red su perfecto pase atrás.

España reculó con la ventaja e Italia, siempre bajo la batuta de Pirlo, se adueñó del balón y del peligro. Los de Del Bosque sufrían corriendo tras la pelota tras el balón y Casillas sacó dos mano milagrosas en dos saques de esquina. La Roja no tardó en recuperar el control, hasta el punto de encerrar a la azzurra con un rondo eterno en la frontal en busca del pase definitivo.
El segundo gol estaba al caer y lo hizo antes del descanso y a toda velocidad cuando Jordi Alba puso la directa. El defensa tocó en su propio campo un balón a Xavi y tiró un desmarque kilométrico que sólo se creyó su compañero. Tras un pase y control perfecto, el lateral zurdo definió perfecto ante Buffon para abrir de par en par las puertas de la historia.
Italia prescindió de Cassano en el descanso a favor de Di Natale, el único capaz de marcarle a Casillas en todo el torneo. Y el delantero transalpino tuvo el gol en su primera ocasión con un cabezazo que se marchó alto por poco. España se fue a por la sentencia y Cesc buscó el tercero con un jugada llena de regates imposibles dentro del área pequeña antes de que el colegiado portugués Pedro Proença no viera un claro penalti de Bonucci por manos sobre un cabezazo de Ramos.
Un rondo para entrar en la leyenda
Los de Prandelli no se rendían y Di Natale se encontró con un soberbio Casillas en la mejor ocasión italiana. Entró Motta, pero el cambió resultó intúil porque el centrocampista sufrió una rotura muscular y dejó a Italia en inferioridad con 25 minutos para el final. La Roja cogió entonces el balón y lo empezó a mover a toda velocidad en busca de la tranquilidad. Italia estaba agotada y en esos momentos, nadie mejor que Xavi. El centrocampista completó su recital regalándole el gol a Fernando Torres con otra genial asistencia, antes de que El Niño ofreciera el cuarto a Juan Mata en una noche para la historia.
España, en su mejor partido del torneo, hizo historia con una goleada y regaló a los aficionados al fútbol otro partido para recordar.

What looks like a tornado here is actually a wall cloud forming. This storm came out of Texas and moved over Mayfield OK in Beckham County. At this point, it is officially in Erick Oklahoma.
The Jewish Square, Vienna 1, formed in the Middle Ages under the name of "schoolyard" the center of the former Jewish Town, extending next to the Ducal court. It was closed from the rest of the city by four gates. Here there were school, bathhouse, synagogue and the house of the rabbi. The school was one of the most important of German-speaking countries. The community existed from about 1190 to the Vienna Geserah in 1421.
The stemming from the 15th century Jordan House, Nr. 2, bears a late Gothic relief with the representation of Jesus' baptism in the Jordan. This is not only a reference to the name of the house owner, Jörg Jordan, but also to the Vienna Geserah which the accompanying text endorses. On the initiative of Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, the Archdiocese of Vienna donated a plaque which Cardinal Franz König on 29 October 1998 unveiled. Its text reads: "Kiddush HaShem" means "sanctification of God". With this awareness, chose Viennese Jews in the synagogue here on Jewish Square - the center of an important Jewish community - at the time of persecution 1420/21 the suicide to escape a feared by them forced baptism. Others, about 200, were burnt alive in Erdberg (today 3rd district of Vienna) at the stake. Christian preachers of that time spread superstitious anti-Jewish ideas and thus incited against the Jews and their faith. So influenced, Christians in Vienna acquiesced without resistance, approved it and became perpetrators. Thus, the liquidation of the Vienna Jewish Town in 1421 was already a looming omen for what happened in our century throughout europe during the Nazi dictatorship. Medieval popes pronounced unsuccessfully against the anti-Jewish superstition, and individual believers struggled unsuccessfully against the racial hatred of the Nazis. But those were too few. Today Christendom regrets its involvement in the persecution of Jews and recognizes its failures. "Sanctification of God" today for Christians can only mean: asking for forgiveness and hope in God's salvation. October 29, 1998
Already in 1910, consisted the plan here the poet of the Enlightenment, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-1781), who in his play "Nathan the Wise" the interdenominational tolerance has put up a literary monument, to honor with a statue. In 1935, a sculpture by Siegfried Charoux was unveiled, but only four years later, in 1940, taken off and melted down for armaments. In 1968, the same artist created again a Lessing monument, which came first on the Morzin square and 1981 on the original site.
Since 2000, the place is a unique ensemble of remembering with the memorial by Rachel Whiteread for the 65,000 Austrian victims of the Shoah. 1995 the foundations of the in 1420 destroyed synagogue were excavated which now with finds constitute a part of the branch of the Jewish Museum Vienna. A computer-animated walk leads into one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe which existed here in the early 15th century. Another room is dedicated to the Shoah documentation.

Mittelalterliche Päpste wandten sich erfolglos gegen den judenfeindlichen Aberglauben, und einzelne Gläubige kämpften erfolglos gegen den Rassenhaß der Nationalsozialisten. Aber es waren derer zu wenige. Heute bereut die Christenheit ihre Mitschuld an den Judenverfolgungen und erkennt ihr Versagen. „Heiligung Gottes“ kann heute für die Christen nur heißen: Bitte um Vergebung und Hoffnung auf Gottes Heil. 29. This is the form "lid" showing the layers that make up the rough parabolic shape. Since this is a negative mold, the parabola bulges out, not in. In order to reduce the amount of material removed during the turning process, a very rough parabolic shape was constructed with layers of material. Look closely at the top edge on the left side: I have added a parabolic curve to demonstrate where the actual surface will be once the cutting process is finished.
Formed by water action some 2 million years ago these caves in Devon are a key Paleolithic site, remains of the oldest anatomically modern human known from Britain were found here. The caves have been home to several different species over time.
Layer after layer of calcified material builds up forming these alien looking surfaces. Kind of like loads of pigs ears growing out of the wall.
This foxglove took on a very unusual form for just the topmost flower - all the rest were normal. Any ideas what caused this strange growth??
The Black Mountain Nordic Club was formed in November 2001 to promote the sport of cross-country skiing while providing consistent trail grooming for the Sibley Lake and Cutler Hill ski trails, in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, and to provide activities for club members. The Sibley Lake (no dogs allowed) and Cutler Hill (dogs welcome) trails are located 26 miles (Sibley) and 24.7 miles (Cutler) west on US hwy 14 from exit 9 on Interstate 90, in the Big Horn Mountains west of Sheridan, Wyoming.

Some bad news - Drastic cutbacks to public entertainment by the Town of Kentville will punish citizens and end the enjoyment of these guest Tribute band performances ? In an ongoing decline in content and quality of Kentville town entertainment, all normal mid-week public displays and entertainment that were always held at Memorial Park during the Apple Blossom Festival week have been curtailed by a new generation of administrators ? These Cost saving frugal decisions will conserve Town money by inflicting public entertainment cut-backs on citizens ?
More bad news, Drastic cutbacks by the Town of Kentville will end a long-time tradition of mid week Apple blossom open public entertainment normally held each year during the Apple Blossom Festival down at Memorial Park ? And so ever since these major entertainment cancellations backs in 2017, instead of an interesting and fun filled evening for the residents of Kentville, there's just a silent empty Park on Wednesdays and Thursdays at Kentville's Memorial Park during the Apple Blossom Festival ? No explanation, replacement, substitution or apology was ever offered ?

While out fishing today, I found this peculiar form on a small island in a river system which has a good population of Wood Turtles. Last spring, Curtis Hart and I observed 9 Wood Turtles on this small island, and most of them including the female at right had dug themselves into the grass pretty well. Today's temperature was 48 degrees I'm thinking this could have been made today by a Wood Turtle. Opinions?
