This image forms part of the digitised photographs of the Ross and Pat Craig Collection. Ross Craig (1926-2012) was a local historian born in Stockton and dedicated much of his life promoting and conserving the history of Stockton, NSW. He possessed a wealth of knowledge about the suburb and was a founding member of the Stockton Historical Society and co-editor of its magazine. Pat Craig supported her husband’s passion for history, and together they made a great contribution to the Stockton and Newcastle communities. We thank the Craig Family and Stockton Historical Society who have kindly given Cultural Collections at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia, access to the collection and allowed us to publish the images. Thanks also to Vera Deacon for her liaison in attaining this important collection.

Our principal violinists, cellist and harpsichordist were at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington, on Wednesday 20th September 2017 for a workshop on performance and interpretation. We greatly enjoyed working with the orchestra and soloists on three concertos – Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor BWV 1041, Vivaldi’s Flute Concerto in D major ‘The Goldfinch’ RV428 and John Garth’s Cello Concerto No 2 in B flat major. It was an intensive workshop focusing on period interpretation, style and performance practices, and at the end of the workshop the orchestra presented a concert to an invited audience of students from other schools in the area. We were delighted to be involved in this workshop to engage and explore this wonderful music with enthusiastic young players.
We’re grateful to Dr Simon Fleming (Curriculum Leader for Music) and the staff at QESFC for inviting us to lead this workshop. QESFC has a thriving culture of music education and participation, and we’re delighted to have been involved in supporting their music learning.
The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison (1709-1770) and other English classical composers of the Baroque period, such as Garth, Arne and Herschel. The Ensemble also performs Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Pergolesi, Teleman, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.

Mastodon is an American metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in early 2000, and is composed of bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Brent Hinds, guitarist Bill Kelliher, and drummer Brann Dailor. Many of their songs feature progressive concepts and unique instrumentation. Three out of the four members participate in vocals, creating a unique blend of singing styles and voices.
Mastodon has released six studio albums, a live album and accompanying DVD, a compilation of early material and a box set. The band released its debut album Remission in 2002, which garnered significant critical acclaim for its unique sound. Their second release, Leviathan, was based on the famous American novel by Herman Melville, Moby-Dick. Three magazines awarded it Album of the Year in 2004: Revolver, Kerrang! and Terrorizer. Mastodon has been twice-nominated for Grammy Awards. The band achieved major American commercial success with its 2011 album The Hunter, which debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, and then continued with their newest release, Once More 'Round the Sun, which debuted at No. 6 after selling 34,000 copies in the first week of release.

For the third year running following its great success, St. Mary’s held their creative ‘Trashion Show. Year 13 students came together for the annual event as part of their Catholic Religious Studies (CRS) programme to take a closer look at environmental issues.
The day began with a spiritual reflection where a representative from CAFOD attended and spoke to the students regarding the charity’s environmental work oversees, as well as about how their actions impact the lives of others. The students proceeded to play interactive games, further discuss environmental issues and examine Catholic teachings surrounding the matter, before making clothing out of recycled materials. Southsea Castle, is an artillery fort originally constructed by Henry VIII on Portsea Island, Hampshire, in 1544. It formed part of the King's Device programme to protect against invasion from France and the Holy Roman Empire, and defended the Solent and the eastern approach to Portsmouth. The castle had a square central keep, two rectangular gun platforms to the east and west, and two angled bastions to the front and rear, and was an early English example of the trace italienne-style of fortification popular on the Continent. The Cowdray engraving of the Battle of the Solent in 1545 depicted Henry VIII visiting the castle. Despite several serious fires, it remained in service and saw brief action at the start of the English Civil War in 1642 when it was stormed by Parliamentary forces.
The castle was expanded in the 1680s by Sir Bernard de Gomme and, after a period of neglect in the 18th century, was redesigned again in 1814 during the Napoleonic Wars. After a brief period of use as a military prison in the 1840s, the fortification was expanded in the 1850s and 1860s with additional gun batteries on the east and west sides. The defences were upgraded throughout the century due to the fears of a French invasion and formed part of the plan for defending Portsmouth during the First World War. In the interwar years some of the fortifications were stood down, but the castle saw service again in the Second World War, when it was involved in Operation Grasp, the seizure of French naval vessels in Portsmouth harbour. In 1960, Southsea Castle, by now obsolete, was sold to Portsmouth City Council. It was restored to its pre-1850 appearance and opened as a tourist attraction, receiving over 90,000 visitors from 2011–12.

This is the 1920 census form which shows that Henry Seiter was living with his family at 300 78th street in Manhattan, New York City. For more on the Seiter family go to

The family is listed in lines 28 – 36. Henry’s second wife, Elizabeth had three children from a previous marriage – Elsa [born in Germany], Eva and Emile Myers who are listed in lines 34 – 36.
On this form, Henry reports that his father was born in NY, but we know from other records that his father actually came from Germany. Henry’s children James and Anna are not listed as living with him – they are included in the 1920 census as living with living with Elizabeth Beresheim, their aunt – sister to Catherine [Marr] Seiter – I have been told that James and his father did not get along that well.
The form shows that he was a painter, that his son John [at 17] was a dentist and that his adopted daughter, Eva, worked in a “Beader factory” even though she was only 15 years old.

This event is part of the two pilot leagues which were launching in September 22.
This could be a huge step for the development of wrestling in this country. If successful with our pilot season this could lead to the launch of a nationwide league launching in every region of the UK by the end of 2023.
