Image created from multiple exposures blended together in Photoshop layers using the "Lighten" blend mode. All exposures were taken with a single Einstein strobe with a 22" beauty dish attached to a boom arm. Send me a FlickrMail message, and I'll be more than happy to send you some information on mostly how I photograph this style and what equipment I use.

This photo was taken using a macro lens to get the maximum details of the water drops and the CD. I also used a tripod to hold the camera steady and two flashes to make the colors pop. I placed a Mexican sunflower behind the water drops to make it look like there is a flower in each drop.

I had the privilege of witnessing a truly magical moment in nature: the emergence of a Giant Swallowtail from its chrysalis. This majestic creature, after undergoing a remarkable transformation, spread its wings for the first time, ready to embark on its new journey.

To capture this extraordinary event in all its glory, I used a technique called focus stacking. By taking 45 different images, each with a slightly different focus point, and then combining them, I was able to create a single image.

PSR strikes again. This time trains 16T and 15T have been abolished in this area, so intermodals 202 and 201 have taken over their freight. So, here is NS 201 a little after 11pm through Shawsville with a white face dash 9 and freight....all freight. No intermodal at all.

Shot for Smile on Saturday - "GET (TO) THE POINT!"

Stranger things have happened...I am not entirely sure....!

I have witnessed several times Costa's hummers literally grab bees and flick them out of the way of their nectar source. However, the above mentioned semi-common occurrence failed to get the message to Brusin Bruno the Bee. This poor hummer did everything in its power to claim territory on this foliage of goodness. But some things just don't work out the way we expect them to work out. As the hummer flew off I swear I could hear a shrill barely audible whimpering. The best I could make out (in hummer speak) as he flew away with tail tucked between feet was"OK,OK consider it your nectar and all that goes with it..." "You win! UNCLE for gods sake...! You mean bee!!!!" "There's plenty to go around ya know. "Ya don't have to take out that dang stinger and threaten me, I was gonna leave and give you the entire plant! Hey you one of those mean and all the time angry African bees that take everything to heart and want to sting someone for no reason at all. Geez what a nasty attitude and horrible temper...."

Ya just can't make this stuff up folks.

Amazing interaction of two competitors that I never, ever would have believed this end result...Ah yes the old cliche holds true...

"A picture is worth a thousand words"

2020-01-11 English Bay, Vancouver BC. Cold, blustery day just before the COVID crisis hit. Someone had tied this rose to the park bench. Waited for a good moment to take the shot. :)

During annual night operations on Labor Day Weekend 2021 at the Illinois Railway Museum, train crews of the Coach Train attempted some old-fashioned nighttime Railway Post Office drops and pickups that once were common across the United States. For those of us assembled with our multi-flash setups, they issued a challenge to us: catch them in the act act night. I think every one of us missed the Grab, but thanks to not being able to see in the dark and firing just a tad early, I managed to catch the drop bag in mid-throw.

Pictured here is the 3rd of 3 runs, and you can see the bag below the pickup pole. This was the next shot taken after the previous one. Only one or two of my flashes went off (out of 5 total), which were all out of frame to the left. The flash going off in this image belongs to Gilbert Sebenste, who can be seen just left of the flash, next to the rainbow flare. So what I managed to do here is capture the EXACT moment that Gilbert captured his image. He hasn't posted it yet, but when he does, I'll update to link to his image. Let's see it, Gil!
