This took quite a lot of effort and out of a large number of shots this was the best one I got. Fun to try though. Now to clear up 😂

Addition of Guar Gum as an additive to thicken water worked perfectly to get that plasticky look without too much stray water drops flying around.

Accipiter Cooperii
Did you know:
It captures a bird with its feet, and will squeeze it repeatedly to kill it, instead of biting the prey to kill it in the fashion of falcons. It has also been known to drown its prey.
The Cooper’s Hawk was first described in 1828 by Charles Bonaparte, a French naturalist and ornithologist who was the nephew of Napoleon. It was named after William Cooper, who collected the first specimen.
Finally I got some Gold Rim Swallowtail caterpillar in my garden and I so excited!!

Time for another smoke image. It has been awhile since I have posted one. I still have quite a few smoke images that I have made and I will post one from time to time.
Today I did a set up hummingbird shoot. Not too many Hummers around right now but I wanted to dust off the strobes and see if I could coax them in to my web of set-up photography.... It worked, by golly it worked. I built it and they came!
Make it a great rest of the week.

Shortly after coming across a male adder on a coastal path in east Yorkshire, I discovered this beautifully coiled up female only meters away. A day with adders is a day that gets fifty times better.
This is a quick edit of Nickel Plate #190, the famous Alco PA-4, passing through Somonauk, IL, in the wee morning hours of May 5th, 2023. By wee morning, I mean the birds were chirping but the sky had yet to lighten. I ended up staying up all night waiting for the Alco as it heads east to it's new home. This is just a quick edit, but I wanted to get it posted before my energy gives out. I promise to update the information soon, when I'm in a more better state of mind. Even though I fired my flashes a second earlier than I wanted, at least I got the shot.
Nothing but rain, wind and many rules to follow lately!
Here are some of my inhouse "Rainy Day Photography! :-)
With best wishes and stay safe to all my Flickr friends :-)
Yup flowers and Hummingbirds go together like peanut-butter and chocolate.
The beauty of doing set up photography is CONTROL.. seldom would you find a single stem with good visually accessibility or has poor lighting or too many other flowers losing the bird. This way I get to control the environment and set back in my Archie chair and push the wireless remote shutter release while drinking a cold beer or iced tea. And this ain't cheatin, its the accepted way of doin hummingbird photography...ya just gotta love it huh.
Hey make it a great Friday my friends. Thanks for stoppin by and it ya just can't help yourself leave me a comment about your thoughts on this one. .
Focus stack (30 images). Shot with two off-camera strobes (Godosx AD200Pro/XPro II trigger). Flash A , bare bulb, mounted to overhead boom, bounce off 32 inch white umbrella. Flash B modified with MagMod MagSphere behind 32 inch velum scrim, masked to provide rim light on subject.
Shot for Crazy Tuesday - a spoonfull of
Image created from multiple exposures blended together in Photoshop layers using the "Lighten" blend mode. All exposures were taken with a single Einstein strobe with a 22" beauty dish attached to a boom arm. Send me a FlickrMail message, and I'll be more than happy to send you some information on mostly how I photograph this style and what equipment I use.

I put a blue filter on one flash and a green on another just to see the results...Whala the results.
I just picked a random plant out of the rain forest I thought would be aesthetically pleasing and a effective lure.
The Hummers are: a Booted-Rackettail Hummingbird and a Andean Emerald Hummingbird.
If you know me, you know I love blue and white and donation stores and yard sales. So I was in the NL visiting my DD and happened upon a kiosk with all sorts of neat things- I vaguely remember a basketful of old/antique keys. Usually on my trips I brought home a souvenir and this clock was it. I was convinced while it was hanging up that it was a plate that someone had repurposed to make a clock.
Crazy Tuesday :: timepiece
One of the fish at the aquarium. I do not know its name but it wanted its pic taken!!!!
I went to the "Audubon Aquarium of Americas" in New Orleans
several days ago and spent the afternoon 'trying' to photograph
some of the exhibits. I found it quite challenging as I had
never photographed an aquarium and because of: lighting,
moving animals, reflections on the glass, people constantly
moving around and many other factors but it was an interesting
time and hopefully I got some reasonably fair images. I will
post more in the future. :-)
