We ended up testing some flashsetups at work. Three flashes used. The model is a really famous and talented noiseartist from Croatia(Zagreb), Miggy Cakes www.flickr.com/mikkomiettinen. Thanks Miggy!
Did some experiments with flashes and light. This is what came out of it. Not sure if this strikes as strange or off-beat or downright weird. Feel free to tell me ...
You can see the shadow spread on both sides of the beetle because its lit from both sides through the flash guide.
And no, he does not like that. But you can see him better. I'm also posting more of his spots, and body here too.
Big Leo's eye. One of his best features (although he has a lot of good features!) his blue eyes are lovely.
I wasn't expecting the self portrait in this one! Forget your fisheye lenses, I prefer a cateye lens!
All the lighting for these shots was provided entirely by an on camera flash, no ambient lighting was used at all.
Solo shot. NO VALS!
Process: First I prefocused on the foreground and turned off autofocus. This was with the 16mm fisheye very close to the table and to me as the subject. There is a gridded strobe to camera left at 1/8 power, a strobe in a gridded strip umbrella on camera right at 1/16, and a white reflector directly behind and above camera.
Shot with 3 second timer. This was the very first shot believe it or not. I was shocked and amazed!
Flashing, Richard Migliore up, wins The Test Stakes
I was so busy dealing with things photographic, I forgot to play this pick. Oh well !!
Congrats to The Mig on a nice Grade I win
Some friends asked for a few shot of their girl, turning 1 year old a couple of days later.
Used a Godox AD360 with a small octabox for lightning.
There would have been some excellent flashing on the pots if I had reached temperature. This was mainly due to stacking tightly. I could see the flames really wrapping around the pots. I'm not sure what I want to do with these double bisqued pots. Maybe I'll get the energy to woodfire them in a rebuilt kiln next year. This endeavor cost me too much time, labor, and cash for these meager results. They would have looked awesome glazed in shino and fired in the gas kiln. I could probably still gas fire these now. It would be interesting to see what happens to the shino with the deposited oxides and fluxes.
My son bought the pendant in the festival.
