In the first attempt for today's picture, I had forgotten to switch the automatic flash off. So the flash thoroughly overexposed things, so much so that the cucumber almost totally disappeared. At first I thought this picture was wasted, but after a second look I decided it had some charm of its own. Just a little intervention to restore some of the red in the tomatoes and here you go...
Got my first DSLR for my birthday and was just experimenting with lighting and stuff. This is our dog Flash Gordon!

This is an actual flash bulb from the 1950's. On display inside Klavon's.
Klavon's also has "Prince Albert in a can", the source of many a prank calls around that time.
Got myself a flash - the Canon 430EX. Here's some fruits of the initial play-about with it.
Bounced the light off the white wall just to the left here.
el flash de relleno se utiliza cuando se esta a contra luz y se busca obtener la nitidez de el entorno y el modelo a la vez, en este caso estaba nublado por lo que no se aprecia de la mejor manera.
Balloon popping time! Thanks to Graham for letting us all play with his homemade audio flash trigger.
Strobist info: SB-26 at 1/64 to behind and left of camera fired by audio trigger.
Another Strobist test. This time I wanted to play with shutter speed to burn out the background to create a kind of spotlight effect. This is with the 580EX II handheld off camera left, up high pointing down. I like the look. The main thing changed in post was the WB, which was kind of wacky in camera.
The Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse at night, illuminated by camera flash. Home of the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum.
I never use the flash on my camera because it looks so horrible. So I was experimenting tonight with a piece of white cardboard held at an angle in front of my pop-up flash, to angle the light off the ceiling and make it less harsh.
These are some of the results. I'd say it's reasonably successful, especially for free. The cardboard piece has a strip of Velcro around it, so I just wrap it around the flash housing and it holds it in place. Doesn't look very classy, though.
Flash & Camera info.
