The debris hanging off the tree indicates high levels of flash flooding.

Supersaturated flash photo of some flowers on our front lawn. This hurts my eyes but it does catch my attention.

Does anyone know what these flowers are? They grow everywhere around here in northern Utah, mostly on unkempt lawns. I've been too busy to look up the answer.

I recently bought a ringflash to use when taking close-up photos. I like the way it illuminates the subject, as with this flower, and leaves the background dark. I believe this is a Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus). The wild native variety is bluer. However, according to Wikipedia, Cornflower "is grown as an ornamental plant in gardens, where several cultivars have been selected with varying pastel colours, including pink and purple". These ornamental cultivars have now spread to locations beyond gardens. This shot was taken on a patch of land adjacent to a tramline in Croydon, outer London.
