Ponce de Leon claimed Florida for Spain in 1513. (Christopher Columbus discovered North America in 1492 but actually landed in the Bahamas). Other Spanish explorers later found gold and silver in Mexico and Peru. The treasure was sent back to Spain in ships sailing in the Gulf Stream. Spanish settlements needed to be built in Florida to protect the Spanish Treasure fleets. King Phillip II of Spain sent Pedro Menendez to settle in Florida and drive out French garrisons recently established there. In September 1565, Pedro Menendez with 700 soldiers and colonists landed 'here' and founded St. Augustine making it the oldest continually occupied European settlement in North America ~ Saint Augustine Inlet

The last First liveried double decker in the Go North West fleet 3103, SN14TTU was dispatched to Thorntons for repaint today and is seen loading up ready for its journey.

The only First liveried vehicles now in the fleet are the remaining B7’s which it would seem have a very limited life and are scheduled for withdrawal in the New Year.

One still extant piece of industrial trackage in Syracuse is the First Ward line along Hiawatha Boulevard on the city's north side, although the crossing of 7th North Street into the old Crouse-Hinds complex was recently removed. The 'First Neighborhood' was developed in the 1960s as the first planned residential neighborhood in Westlake Village. This community of nearly 300 homes sits at the western-most edge of Los Angeles County and presents one vision of the quintessential American suburb.

The developer was a shipping magnate, Daniel Ludwig, and the overall town plan was the work of the famous Los Angeles architectural and planning firm A.C. Martin. Many of the individual homes were designed by R.J. Marwick.

Today, most homes have been renovated and are different enough that it is easy to miss their tract homes origins. The overall layout and wide greenbelts with walking paths remain intact making it an even more attractive neighborhood.
