I bought a pack of "grow-yourself" mushrooms. They are growing faster than I can eat them.

From my hometown I can clearly see the whole mountain chain of the Alps, with their foothills in front of them. Yesterday I found them whitened by the first fresh snow of the season. Winter is coming. We must prepare ourselves, my dog and I.

Ponte Vecchio, Florence

A slightly earlier shot than the first posting.

As mentioned in a previous posting the Vasari Corridor can be seen on the far side (East side) of the bridge. It’s the long block running the full length of the bridge above the shops.

In the middle of Ponte Vecchio, the corridor is characterized by a series of panoramic windows facing the Arno, in the direction of the Ponte Santa Trinita. These replaced the smaller windows of the original construction in 1939, by order of Benito Mussolini. The larger windows were installed for an official visit to Florence by Adolf Hitler to give him a panoramic view of the river.

First Glasgow are in the process of branding some of their AD Enviro 200MMC's that are used on service 240 (Wishaw-Glasgow). 67048 (SN65 OHA) is seen here in Motherwell with the new branding clearly visible.

First Tulips that I have seen so far this year - they are such a pretty shaped flower :-)

We'd had rain during the night so there was still a good deal of cloud about. A good time to get out for a sunrise. A half hour drive down the motorway is Coolum with several rocky bays along what is otherwise a 50 km stretch of sandy beach from Sunshine Beach to Caloundra. I picked my spot by the rocks at First Bay. Well I was not disappointed with the golden hour and sunrise.

Happy Truck Thursday! These trucks were taken by our youngest son, Ian, while on a run in Portland.

Rare time off for Ian who is an Emergency Room PA in Vancouver, Washington. One of 139,000 dedicated PA's nationwide.

First time out of town again, first coffee in an café again - felt special and strange somehow. Pentax Me on Ilford Ortho Plus, developed in Caffenol CL.

Sister to the Fitzgerald the steamer Arthur B. Homer is up-bound on the St. Clair River at Port Huron, Michigan on her springtime first trip of the season. The Bethlehem Steel boats would all lay-up in Erie, Pennsylvania for the winter. This run was not the usual route for their ore loads normally to Lake Michigan and those south end steel mills - April 20, 1980.

Another one I've worked on for years, this one from 2016. I wanted to make the First Light the subject, not the beast. Dark dark, and then there's the light beginning to expose the beast. It is now as I envisioned, between a painting and a photograph, sort of how the Pictorialists envisioned photography. I showed this yesterday to a zoom salon group I belong to, and one distinguished photographer exclaimed, "le Fauve - it's the Wild Beast of Fauvism." I found that fun, so its subtitle may be "Homage to Fauvism" or "Homage to le Fauve" while the style doesn't have the bright colors of Fauvism, but it does have that Beast.

Here’s a small patch of Pickwick Dutch Crocus that I found at Buxton Park (Indianola, Iowa). These purple and white striped crocus with bright-orange stamens are the first spring flowers that I have seen this year. I photographed these earlier this afternoon in full-sun, but under an umbrella to avoid hard shadows.

Developed with Darktable 4.8.0.

Nobbys Head in Newcastle, NSW, was first sighted by a European, Captain James Cook on 10th May 1770. A pier which took 38 years to construct by convict labour joined this island to the mainland. A lighthouse is located on the headland. Today there is a popular walkway up to Nobbys Head. It lies at the entrance of Newcastle Harbour.

I love the clouds in this image!

To my yard, that is. These rose-breasted grosbeaks were especially welcome since I've had no time to walk around and look for migrants this fall. They stopped to eat berries, along with a resident northern cardinal, in the dogwood tree in my front yard before moving on.
