Our family stopped at a small rest stop at a tiny "town" called Last Chance in eastern Colorado, and while the family were, um, resting in the little portapotties, I spotted this orchard oriole nearby, my first shot of one of these orioles!

Sometimes I go out with the camera and find that shots that look great on the camera do not appear quite as good when uploaded to the computer. Am I the only one who this happens to?

Well recently, I experienced this, so I took to reviewing my archives and came up with this one. It took a bit of work in post processing to get this result. I hope you like it.

And it was crazy! The northern suburbs of Chicago got the brunt of the storm. In fact, the town we live in recorded the most snow - 18 inches. Because the ground was so warm, it doesn't look like there was 18 inches, though.

The earliest snow melted and froze...causing branches to bend under the weight, or break from the weight. I skied through an obstacle course the day after the storm.

Two days after the snow storm and the ice and snow on the trees hadn't yet melted. It felt like I was walking into a whole other realm.

I had my 'first warbler' visit taking a bath in my backyard fountain. I had seen it a few days before, briefly, and without a camera. This day he spent quite some time enjoying the water. Heading out to Half Moon Bay this morning for a couple of days will catch up when I return.

I believe this is a Orange-crowned Warbler.

After I took this I talked to a lady at Schiller Park Metra who was watching planes with her grand kids. She was very excited as she told me her 30 year old son was the First Officer on the Kalitta 747 that had just landed. It was his first flight for Kalitta and he was going to do the takeoff when it departed for Anchorage in a few hours. She said he had previously flown for Sky West, quite a difference flying a 747!

She was out to record the event! I congratulated her on his new position!
