I know. The rut is on and you can see bucks any time of day or night chasing a doe. But, your chances of a decent photo of a buck on the chase aren't very good. I'm still set up and waiting on first light to get a closer shot. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

These two are some of my fave My Scene girls. I call them Jo and Carrie. I even managed to capture some sunlight in these pics! I must've brought the sun back with me from Greece, because in these hemispheres it's been shining with its absence all autumn.

Yellowstone NP: Day 6

My personal high point of the trip was when we stumbled upon three bull elk with their harems on the same ridgeline near Mammoth at first light.

Although the light was poor and we were forced to shoot at high ISO, simply watching the interaction between the bulls was amazing. Although the pecking order had obviously already been established through previous battles it was awesome to watch the false charges, bugling, and the posturing of the bulls when another came to close. A great show for over an hour before they disappeared over the ridge.

Amtrak's westbound California Zephyr arrives in Glenwood Springs as the station attendant and engine crew exchange waves is the subject of my first photo of 2020.

As seen from inside the Eastend Studio & Gallery, Marshall, Michigan.

Dawn at the foot of mighty Torres del Paine (2850m) towers, which rise 2000m above the nameless lake in the Andes of Chilean Patagonia, and gave name to the famous national park.

I was incredibly lucky to witness this sight because weather was worsening. Firstly, 2h of night ascent were necessary to get there while constantly looking towards the sky in fear. Clouds were building up, closing most of the sky but sun somehow found the way to the towers through the hole in the east. 10mins later clouds closed everything and downpour began, but it was well worth it.

While I'm shooting digital IR for more than 18 months now, I must admit that this is my first time to shoot IR using a non IR modified camera. This image was shot using a Hoya R72 IR filter mounted onto my UWA lens. While it is easy to shoot IR with an IR modified camera, using the Hoya R72 method, on the other hand, is quite challenging as the exposure was a guessing game. This image was shot with 16 stops of light in order to expose properly my subject.
