Umm, so, yeah, I guess winter is starting a little early this year. I've grown up in Ottawa my entire life and can only remember one year where it snowed before halloween (and yes my mom made me wear a snowsuit under my costume to go trick or treating). I hope it's not here to stay, I have so many summer and fall shots left in my archives that I wanted to post.

This was our reason for exploring this canyon. I knew it was fenced off before we started off on the hike. I'm always disappointed being denied access, but the truth of the matter is, in this case, it's probably best. People clambering all over the structure will just be detrimental to its health.

OK... I'm coming out of the closet.... I bought a macro lens (Tamron 90mm Macro). As somebody that considers themselves a serious landscape photographer I feel like I have donned an anorak and now I'm a train spotter. I don't know why, but I have never been overly interested in macro photography before ,but all of a sudden I felt the urge to try my creativity on a much smaller scale.

You won't be seeing any flowers or insects from me, but I will be trying to bring some of the principles of large scale lighting and composition to the macro world.

I have to admit though that I feel very clumsy operating in the macro world where depth of field is measured in millimeters.

This is the first of a few exercises that I have set myself to try to understand the world of macro.

On the evening of 12/18/15, we had our first snowfall of the 2015/2016 winter ---late for this area. I went out the next day before the little snow we had melted.

Although I took some photos, I wasn't much inspired by the images I found while driving around the countryside west of Zelienople, PA. But I stumbled upon an area where I had previously taken some photos in the summer, but couldn't find again, so now I know where it is. (I had the GPS in my camera turned off the day I took the photos.) And I heard an interview with one of my favorite authors (Lee Child) on NPR while driving. So, it was a somewhat productive morning.

Calgary Stampede Parade July 2018

As always, we look forward to that first box of strawberries picked from the garden. Homegrown berries are so much sweeter than those that are shipped halfway across the country! Our patch is small, but hopefully we'll have enough to enjoy berries for a couple of weeks with our breakfast, with our ice cream, and have enough left over for a pie and some jelly...
