Fast schon ungewohnt, konnte man diesen Anblick doch für lange Zeit nur auf Postkarten und anderen Fotokonserven genießen: endlich ist das Gerüst, das den Uhrenturm der St.Pauli Landungsbrücken für lange Zeit verbarg, verschwunden und das Gebäude erstrahlt wieder in altem Glanz. Die neue Kuppel des alten Elbtunnels ist ja schon seit einiger Zeit zu bewundern - im Inneren wird allerdings noch ordentlich gewerkelt, ebenso in den Tunnelröhren. Der Spaziergang unter der Elbe hindurch wird mit einem fantastischen Blick auf die Hamburger Skyline vom anderen Ufer aus belohnt. 566 Bilder
Drummers. The hardest people to shoot. They move fast, they're always tucked up the back of the stage in the worst lighting, there's a bunch of junk in front of them that AF sensors find far, far more attractive than the guy with the sticks who's stocking the engine room. This is Will, Kevin Anderson's son, who was on the kit for both the rehearsal and the concert.
If you're wondering, by now, why some of these shots aren't as Teflon-smooth when it comes to noise, well...I know. There's a lot of noise working out of the shadows, yeah, yeah. I know.
I can't say I come from a film background - I picked up a digital first - but if film photography is a country I've got permanent residency. I feel in love doing the insane, pushing films like Neopan 400 and the beautiful Tri-X to EI 3200 and beyond, and devving them in D-76 and Diafine. I'm familiar with fatter, chunkier grain than this, and I love the look. Film grain, to me, is like the maillard reaction on a really good steak.
I suppose I could be really pretentious and call it wabi-sabi. H
The Exmor sensor on the K-5 has noise that's a lot more filmic than other sensors I've used, and so I let it slide. Plus, it's pretty much all luminance noise up until some insane ISO. I let it slide.
There's another little trick I've used, but I have to keep some secrets.
