The flickr group Macro Mondays has a weekly challenge for images along a theme. This challenge was to capture "Speed." Speed, or a measurement of the rate of something happening over time, is a relative measure. In this example, the rate at which a lens is able to capture light is the measure.
For this image, I represented my "Fast 50" normal lens that I use the most. It's the "fastest" lens I own, featuring a wide open measure of F1.4. I use this lens for most of my Macro Mondays work, simply because it has such a beautiful wide open view and it sucks up the light, allowing me to take pictures without using a flash.

These photos were taken on the Willis Creek canyon hike in the Escalante Grand Staircase. This was one of my favorite hikes because it was so lovely. The entire hike is through an ankle-deep stream through slot canyons. The canyon rock here has some really unique colors and striations.
I like that I can see the motion of the car and the car is somewhat in focus with a blur. I would of liked to make it more interesting somehow.

The Blue Angels are in town. I took a few photog friends up to my son's in-laws to capture them. They are so fast--this guy flies right above us and you fell like you could reach out and touch the plane--but he is nearly gone by the time the camera will focus. I should say this could be a gal as there is a gal flying as well. The is a Pitts special aerobatic pilot who flies his plane as well and I have never seen any one put planes through so many twists, turns, cartwheels, stalls etc as he does. Next year I am renting a powerful long lens as the race course is directly across from us. I am taking more images today.
Built for Flickr LUGNuts 4th anniversary challenge to the theme - 'By Random Appointment' - Fast Gassin' is a Hot Wheels Custom truck model released in 2009. The vehicle was designed by John Violette. There are a number of colour combinations for this Hot Wheels model. The one chosen for replication in the green cab/chrome tank model - with colour substitution. The Hot Wheels model has "Fast Gassin" scripted across the tabk, here substituted with a classic lego 'Shell' fuel brick.
The lego model has been built in miniland scale to the original model. The exact scale is difficult to decipher. The front grille and fenders are common to the form of GM light trucks circa early 1950s. The cabin looks like a cross between a diesel haulage train and the rear doors of a sedan. The fuel tank is relatively small, but use of only two axles for load bearing indicates appropriate capacity.
Being built to the 'By Random Appointment' theme is always a bit scary, as you could be assigned anything - but is a great way to expand one's building experience.

I photographed the Greenfield Winter Carnival "Sleigh Bell Run" 4-mile road race this morning, mostly just to get some more practice shooting sports. Mind you, I did it with a lens that not only is completely inappropriate for the camera (a DX lens on an FX camera) but also completely inappropriate for the event and conditions (only an 18-55mm zoom to shoot a running race on an overcast winter day? am I stupid?). But never mind that. I'm workin' on it...
I've found that I often don't care for shots where two runners are side by side. I think it's because the framing ends up looking kind of weird (the subject is too wide for the vertical crop that way). But these two made it work with their matching strides and all-around excellent smiles.

The vacant Saint Luke's Hospital in Pasadena was a location used for the 2010 action film "Faster" (top).
This location is at 2632 E. Washington Blvd, Pasadena.
Mehr als 1.000 Rechte demonstrieren ohne Probleme im Berliner Regierungsviertel. Die Teilnehmer kamen aus sämtlichen Spektren der rechten Volksbewegung. NPD, Freie Kräfte, Gida, Hooligans, alles war da. Auch aus dem europäischen Ausland, wie Tschechien, Österreich und der Schweiz kamen Rassisten zusammen. Mindestens drei Neonazis wurden von der Polizei genauer geprüft. Bei einer gab es den Verdacht auf einen Hitlergruß, eine Person betätigte sich als Anti-Antifa-Aktivist und ein Dritter hatte einen vermutlich strafbaren Inhalt auf einem Shirt.
Teile der Demonstration waren extrem aggressiv, vor allem wenn sie auf einzelne Gegendemonstranten tragen. Am Aufzug waren etwa 2-300 Beamte, teilweise nur stationiert und nicht begleitend. Ein Seitenspalier fehlte ebenfalls.
Eine Gegendemonstration konnte ebenfalls nur etwa 1.000 Menschen mobilisieren. Diese hatte zu keinem Zeitpunkt den Charakter von Blockaden. Die Beamten in Zivil vom Staatsschutz hatten offenbar dieselbe Auffassung. Anfangs beobachteten sie immer wieder, was sich für ein Klientel in der Demonstration sammelt. Gerade einmal eine Hundertschaft begleitete den Zug, der sich freiwillig in kompletter Stärke in eine Sackgasse manövrierte. 1.000 Antifaschisten konnten von etwa drei Dutzend Beamten geleitet werden. Es gab an keiner Stelle den Versuch aus- bzw. zu den Neonazis durchzubrechen.
Fast die komplette Route der Neonazis war mit Hamburger Gittern abgesperrt. Laut eigenen Angaben waren etwa 1.300 Beamte im Einsatz, davon Unterstützungskräfte aus Oranienburg, Hamburg und Sachsen.
Vom Äußerlichen her betrachtet war eine Mobilisierung innerhalb des linksautonomen Spektrums nicht erkennbar oder zumindest nicht erfolgreich.
Dies könnte ebenfalls ein Grund dafür sein, warum Enrico Stubbe (Pro Deutschland) erneut erfolgreich marschieren konnte. Erneut konnte er Neonazis aus dem gesamten Bundesgebiet im vierstelligen Bereich mobilisieren. Erneut konnte die antifaschistische Szene in Berlin nicht mal ansatzweise den Aufmarsch erreichen oder behindern geschweige denn blockieren.
