Fresno City College hosts the 2019 Bill Musick Open. College Wrestling Tournament. Photos by John Sachs www.tech-fall.com

It is rather cold outside (-24oC) and I really don't feel like going anywhere.. Though I did drive by the river and saw vapor rising from it looking very nice.. I did not take my camera with me though and maybe it's a good thing, especially considering the cold.. So .. Flower and colour it is again today. A little bit of summer and glorious fall..

We had some snow before this, but it didn't collect on the ground, so it doesn't count. This is a still from a short timelapse I shot under the canopy of a gas station late one night. Only 2 cars passed while I was there, and they both probably wondered what I was up to. (since the gas station was closed long ago)

This national park [Denali] in Alaska has been enlarged over the years and is now divided into three units… the national park, the wilderness area, and a preserve. The animals here get big. Winters are eight months long. These are harsh conditions to say the least and precipitation is low in this subarctic zone.

We visited at the best time of the year with fall colors still visible that don’t last long.

Wildlife are feeding in preparation for the long winter. So they can be seen from the side of the road in wilderness bus tours. We took the tour deep into the park and saw a grizzly bear, a caribou with a huge rack of antlers, and a large boar (male) moose. > ourtravelsaroundtheworld.com/denali-ak-tundra-wilderness-...

[Photo was taken near the Denali Visitor Center where there was lodging.]

This is one of a pair of tall identical cottonwood trees that stretch out against the sky near where I start my workday. This one was hit by lightning several years ago. It striped it of its bark near the top of the trunk, and changed its pattern of growth. So, once twins, turned into two very different neighbors. The red leaves are from a vine that grows on the tree, and turns color in fall before the rest of the trees leaves.

While searching early morning for fall color and animal life the sun decided to pop its light though yonder trees!

The colors of Autumn have fully arrived in Middle Tennessee. I'm not the biggest fan of cooler weather but the photographer in me loves the colors...

A couple more views of the beautiful fall trees in reflection. These are from a slightly different viewpoint than the one I posted a while ago.

Have some of these guys growing outside the new apartment. No clue what it is, but I thought it would give me more of an excuse to play with my lightbox

edit: apparently it's called spindle bush.

... i believe that everything happens for a reason. people change so that you can learn to let go. things go wrong so that you can appreciate them when they're right. you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Another image for a project for my photo club. I tried to get my Yongnuo 568exii to do second curtain sync, but it wasn't cooperating. This image was rotated 180 degrees from the original! This is a two image composite to get a wider spread of candies falling. Exif info: Canon 70D, 100L lens, f10, 1/50, iso 250. Strobist info: A YN 568exii was connected to the camera with an OCF cord and fired at 1/4 power. It was set for second curtain sync, but I don't think it worked that way. A small LED panel was used to light the candies to get the streak.

Oddly enough, this simple shot is one of my favorite pics from this fall. It conveys how I feel this morning.............FREE! ...........no campaign emails in my box this morning!

I think this election proves one thing.......Americans Can Not Be Bought!! .....HA - HA - HAAAA!!!

39 - Autumn

Finally getting closer to where I am meant to be at this time of the year. I'm essentially in the right season now! Jealous?

So autumn is all about leaves that have fallen to the floor, that are crisp and pretty and no longer green. All of these elements have been covered by this uncannily autumnal picture.

Very little post-production, just a bit of cloning to remove an unsightly stick (which I should've moved when I took the photo) and a bit of a contrast boost to make the colour pop a bit more.

more snow fell today, looked beautiful now melting away.

This shot was inspired by this one by Jemma

This shot was taken in mid-October in the glorious White Mountains of New Hampshire near the peak of the Fall foliage season

(I stand corrected, thanks to Horticultural Art... this is not a tupelo, as I had thought ! Always learning ! Thanks !)

CALLERY PEAR TREE

" The Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana) is a species of pear native to China. It is a deciduous tree growing to 15 to 20 m (49 to 66 ft) tall, with a conic to rounded crown. The leaves are oval, 4 to 7 cm (1.6 to 2.8 in) long, glossy dark green above, slightly paler below. The flowers are produced in early spring before the leaves expand fully, and are white, with five petals, and about 2 to 3 cm (0.79 to 1.2 in) in diameter. They have a sickly-sweet smell.

The fruit is less than one cm in diameter, hard, almost woody until softened by frost, after which it is readily taken by birds, which disperse the seeds in their droppings. In summer, the foliage is dark green and very smooth, and in autumn the leaves commonly turn brilliant colors, anything from yellow and orange to more common red, pink, purple, and bronze. Sometimes, several of these colors may be present on an individual leaf. However, the color often occurs very late in fall, and the leaves may be killed by a hard frost before full color can develop.

This tree is remarkably resistant to sicknesses or blight, and is killed more often by storms and high winds than by sickness." wikipedia.org

This card was created with Jen Shults' Deconstructed Sketch No. 167, and because I am so happy that Fall is almost here!

I used Lawn Fawn Sweater Weather papers, Stitched Leaves Dies, and Hello die and the dashed line stamp from Life is Good.

I was shooting a few blocks down the road, and came back to this spot when I saw the clouds forming nicely. Problem was, the sun was to my left, so the scene was not lit evenly from my vantage point. It was brighter on my left and goes progressively darker to my right. And with the sun already behind the hills, I shot multiple exposures, thinking HDR.

However, my HDR was very uneven, like using a circular polarizer with a wide-angle lens on an empty blue sky. Some areas are obviously darker, making it very distracting.

So, I did my only other approach, blending two exposures, using manual masking and levels adjustments.

Thanks for dropping by!

Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba; in Chinese and Japanese 銀杏, pinyin romanization: yín xìng, Hepburn romanization: ichō or ginnan), also spelled gingko and known as the Maidenhair Tree, is a unique species of tree with no close living relatives. The tree is widely cultivated and introduced, since an early period in human history, and has various uses as a food and traditional medicine.

Ginkgoes are large trees, normally reaching a height of 20–35 m (66–115 feet), with some specimens in China being over 50 m (164 feet). The tree has an angular crown and long, somewhat erratic branches, and is usually deep rooted and resistant to wind and snow damage. Young trees are often tall and slender, and sparsely branched; the crown becomes broader as the tree ages. During autumn, the leaves turn a bright yellow, then fall, sometimes within a short space of time (1–15 days). A combination of resistance to disease, insect-resistant wood and the ability to form aerial roots and sprouts makes ginkgos long-lived, with some specimens claimed to be more than 2,500 years old.

Ginkgo is a relatively shade-intolerant species that (at least in cultivation) grows best in environments that are well-watered and well-drained. The species shows a preference for disturbed sites; in the "semi-wild" stands at Tian Mu Shan, many specimens are found along stream banks, rocky slopes, and cliff edges. Accordingly, Ginkgo retains a prodigious capacity for vegetative growth. It is capable of sprouting from embedded buds near the base of the trunk (lignotubers, or basal chi chi) in response to disturbances, such as soil erosion. Old individuals are also capable of producing aerial roots (chi chi) on the undersides of large branches in response to disturbances such as crown damage; these roots can lead to successful clonal reproduction upon contacting the soil. These strategies are evidently important in the persistence of Ginkgo; in a survey of the "semi-wild" stands remaining in Tian Mu Shan, 40% of the Ginkgo specimens surveyed were multi-stemmed, and few saplings were present.

Summer ended too soon…

My tale was heard, and yet it was not told;

My fruit is fall’n, and yet my leaves are green;

My youth is spent, and yet I am not old;

I saw the world, and yet I was not seen;

My thread is cut, and yet it is not spun;

And now I live, and now my life is done.

Went on a hike with Dave (buffdawgus) at the Spenceville Wildlife Area. It was a gorgeous springlike day. Bright, sunny, and the temperature was in the mid-60s. Next week it's suppose to snow. Inconsistent weather we are having this winter. But, I guess that's better than no weather at all.

More Florida fall colors.

This past Friday morning, on my way to MOBOT to try some bokeh panos with my Olympus, I was running a little bit early for the gardens opening. I decided on the way to stop by Forest Park and try to find something to shoot there for a bit. I ended up by the Jewel Box, the parks department really has this area landscaped nicely for the fall. I was graced with good skies and great color for this shot. Every time I take my Olympus out for shooting, it really amazing the quality it can produce when I want it to. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

I was supposed to be painting a house today. I went. I started. But I kept looking out at our 1st snow of the year. I had to grab the camera and head to the woods!!! It was a very wet snow and by the time I got there was turning to a rain snow mix and melting off the trees. I had to shoot quick!!! I'm not ready for winter yet but this was a beautiful coating on top of the fall colors.

A beautiful song, a favorite song of mine. Tonight I'm just trying to relax, a long day ahead for tomorrow. These shots are from quite some time back, I just really wanted to submit them. Now I only have 1 more apple shot to upload. :) It is better than these, but not as good as the last two.

Enjoy ya'll... But sometimes you've just got to let Icarus fall...
